A new Baroness album is finally on the horizon! Titled "Gold & Grey". Three weeks ago the first single named Borderlines came out, and today it's Seasons turn.

Sounding good so far. Only thing I'm not that keen on (yet) is the slight crackling feedback thing they're doing. Baroness likes to make some unconventional production/mixing decisions, but for me they always sounded very deliberate and purposeful. This mix will probably grow on me as well.

Album art, great as always:

It is scary how some people are so universally talented. Baizley draw the album art as well, and I can barely write a song.

The two singles have been great... Purple was probably my AOTY in 2015 so I am expecting great things. So far so good. Love the idea behind Gold and Grey as well, wasn't what I expected (not sure if I really knew what to expect anyway...) but very very cool. I think this might be their best art yet.

Agreed on the artwork. It's definitely a step up from their previous releases. The songs are pretty solid too. I enjoyed Purple well enough and wouldn't be mad if this was similar in quality.

I kinda hate Borderlines (way too vocal-forward) but Seasons fucking RIPS. The drumming on that is incredible, and it has some of their more metallic-sounding riffs like the early days. Seeing them in a few days and excited to see how the new stuff sounds live.

Baroness has always been hit-or-miss for me but I like the direction of "Seasons" a lot. Fingers crossed!

Sounds like a fucking mess, both the composition and the production. It sounds like a rough first draft of a song that might be good six rewrites later. That in tandem with the muddy and amateurish mix makes it sound like a home demo at best. I officially no longer look forward to this album, all my expectations are gone.

Another song. It's obviously an artistic choice, but I really do not care for the LOUD CRACKLING MIX. Purple had some of that and it worked, but they've turned it up to eleven here.

I dunno, I really could use more white noise smothering everything.

I'm not a huge Baroness fan to begin with but that mix is fucking unlistenable.

I love me a noisy mess, but they're hardly Lightning Bolt are they? Quit trying to be edgy and get your shit together. Of all the things they've knicked from Mastodon, it's a shame production value isn't one of them.

cool song! love the cracklin'

it's obviously a thematic choice - the other songs released don't have that effect.

Never saw the appeal of this band or most of the retro stoner stuff.

Makes me think of a bunch of bearded skinny jeans hipsters standing around drinking double IPAs. ;)
