From the beginning of the article:

Quote:
"Do you consider yourself something of a heavy metal aficionado? Then maybe you might want to enrol at the University of Newcastle for their newly-announced Geography of Heavy Metal course.

If there’s one thing that we’ve discovered over the last year, it’s that Australian researchers like focusing on heavy metal."

You can do a metal MBO study (basically a pre-bachelor degree...? For anyone Dutch; feel free to correct me here) here in Eindhoven, yes.

Dammit.

applicants to the PhD course must have a minimum education level featuring BA Honours, and ideally a Master’s degree in Geography or a related field.
I guess a Master's degree in history with the thesis being about Norwegian black metal and national identity constructions doesn't really cut it, then? :(

That'll do great in a job application. "What qualifies you for our field of work?" - "Well, I did a master's thesis about pornogrind at the University at Newcastle."

That would certainly get you onto their "Student Blacklist", because it's not metal :-D

Does this mean M-A is obligated to post everyone’s credentials in their custom title?

Maybe a paper about the impact of black/death metal or the attitude of certain metal genres. A very, very difficult maybe.

a lot of people do (scholarship) PhDs as they're a way to delay getting a proper job... you can "work" on something you like, in your own time, and no one cares if you have purple hair and 12 piercings from the neck up alone... the money's not so good overall, but it balances out.

in this case, you also get to "work" in sunny australia, where the sun is shining and everyone's horny all the time...

besides that, a PhD in metal won't get you any kind of job... it got the uni a lot of publicity tho, so it's a win.

Hardly. It's fucking hard work, although my experience is in the sciences where there is a clear distinction between good and bad work.
