Got this email from Bandcamp:

Greetings!

The Covid-19 pandemic has hit artists especially hard as tours and shows are canceled for the foreseeable future. To help support those impacted, we’re waiving our revenue share on all sales this Friday, March 20, from midnight to midnight PST. If you are able, please join us in putting some much needed money directly into artists’ pockets.

Read more about why we’re doing this, and please help us spread the word!

--

Pretty cool.

----

Edit: on June 19th, all Bandcamp's revenue will be donated to the NAACP legal defense fund

Edit: this is ongoing throughout 2021, starting in February up until at least May 2021. Cool!

I have a shopping cart prepped already. Gonna prioritize independent artist pages and smaller labels and particularly bands whose shows I was planning on attending but got cancelled.

Just bought some albums I'd been planning to nab - White Reaper "The World's Best American Band" and Sturgill Simpson's second album. Been on my list for when I'd planned to move to another city. Things didn't go that way. But now I can support em this way.

I got my buys but only a couple things; new Wardaemonic and Megadriver. If the new Master Boot Record shows up on their bandcamp today I'm gonna grab it as well.

Runemagick has marked their Bandcamp "full digital discography" at 50% off for today. This isn't their full catalog but includes a lot of great stuff for about $28 USD: https://runemagick.bandcamp.com/

Great initiative. I've always loved Bandcamp and this is very reaffirming.

My band's releases are all free but you can name your price too :) I still have some studio work to do for the next release so any support is greatly appreciated!

(Haven't had any gigs cancelled but as a freelance guitar teacher I'm taking a financial hit all the same.)

Atmospheric, melancholic doom metal with clean singing and strong emphasis on melody.

https://akelei.bandcamp.com

Much obliged!

Ordered albums from Death the Leveller and Ironflame myself this morning. Bandcamp does some pretty amazing stuff.

Well, I'm gonna throw my hat in the ring here.

We lost about $2,500 in flights when our appearance at Hell's Heroes in Texas was cancelled last week. No sign of getting the money back yet. We've got studio time booked this summer to record our second album, but this has a huge impact on our budget.

https://gatekeeper.bandcamp.com/

I would also suggest checking out Throne of Iron, Smoulder, Traveler, Riot City, Iron Kingdom and Visigoth. These bands all ended up stranded in Europe and lost tons of money when the pandemic escalated in the EU. They could all use the support.

If anyone here wants some Video lessons on Guitar, Piano and Music Theory please PM me. I'm offering a stupidly low rate for people affected by quarantine measures.

My band wasn't as affected as some others (we certainly didn't lose thousands on tour costs), but we still had every single show we booked for March cancelled, including one we were intending to record a live album at. We just got the CDs for our new EP in, and we haven't had one chance to sell them because of all this.

They might as well make this a first of the month deal for every subsequent month until things are returned to some normalcy.

Excellent - I've been trying out a few new bits & pieces from a few of the bands named above, so great time to put some money down.

I kind of missed out on the first one because I couldn't decide what to buy off my huge wishlist, so I'm going to carefully plan it all out this time. I intend to mostly buy stuff from the artists that need it most, but I also can't resist buying some great albums from bands that are probably doing fine financially.

That's a good call. I'm also going to try to shy away from labels. I know lots of them are saying they'll be giving more/all to the artists, but who knows. Rather just have it go straight to the bands' pockets.

Bandcamp waiving its revenue fee again:

Quote:

Greetings,

A few Fridays ago, we waived our revenue share to help musicians impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Bandcamp community (very possibly including you!) went above and beyond, paying $4.3 million to artists and labels in just 24 hours. It was an inspiring day, and we heard many requests to do it again, so we’re going to do exactly that.

This Friday, May 1, we’re once again waiving our revenue share for all sales on Bandcamp, from midnight to midnight PDT.

If you’re fortunate enough to be in a position to spare some funds, please join us in providing some much-needed support to the many amazing artists on Bandcamp.

Details are here, and please help us spread the word!

Perfect time to pick up the new Traveler, just saying. ;)

This needs to be promoted more. Someone just bought the entire digital discographies of Black Tribe and Alpha Drone, which has never happened to me before and technically I am very happy about it, but the guy did it ONE DAY BEFORE that special offer that would have benefitted me even more.

Pretty sure the announcement was sent to every single Bandcamp user a couple days ago. Some people don't care, are impatient, or have already forgotten. It's not like there are going to be zero sales on Bandcamp today.

And all those who buy it, write in a review on the bandcamp entry:
... as recommended by Morrigan at the Metal Archives.

I like to throw in https://bruxamaria.bandcamp.com/album/the-maddening as a recommendation;

I guess I'll cut back a bit in terms of how much I buy tomorrow, since they'll be doing it again on June 5th and July 3rd.

If anyone's into Sadus, their first 3 albums are available on Bandcamp in ultra-transparent splatter vinyl. There's only 5-6 copies left each, so I couldn't wait.
