Third album by the black metal band Akhlys. After being very impressed with their previous one from 2015, this is highly anticipated.

Yeah, I'm really hyped. The Dreaming I is Naas Alcameth's best work along with Ego dominus tuus.

Instant buy.

While I really like Nightbringer, I find myself completely enthralled by the side projects, Bestia Arcana, Aoratos, and Akhlys.

I really like Nightbringer too but I agree some of these projects are better than most Nightbringer albums (specially Akhlys and Bestia arcana).

Somewhere early in this track I had been somewhat confused with how the track sounds and had been arranged, because it reminded me on the previous album ... and not in a good kind of way. The feeling you get when something sounds too familiar.

This is absolutely diabolical in all the right ways! Sounds like this will be a fantastic followup to The Dreaming I!

Great to read that our release gets such high praise - thank you! :-) Stay tuned, a second song might materialize sooner than we think from the depths of Naas' nightmares.

For those of you that care, back in the day Naas contributed a song called "For Blood & Soil" to a white supremacist split. I used to love Akhlys and Nightbringer, but I just can't support them after learning this. I'm so sick of this shit.

I find your dismissal of two bands who you claim to have loved and your labeling of a split released 20 years ago in which four bands contributed as "white supremacist" based solely on a single song, with unpublished lyrics, because it is titled "For Blood and Soil" interesting.

That song got re-released a few years later in another split on the NSBM label Non Compos Mentis Records. He also used a Julius Evola sampler in one of the latest Nightbringer songs, The Lamp of Inverse Light. Some live band members played in NSBM bands Acherontas and Stutthof. What to make of all this? Whatever you want.

That is excellent stuff. Suddenly the music board is full of long-form black metal goodness. I picked the right week to start trying out all of the new stuff here it seems !

The artwork is spot on for the title, too - any idea who the artist is ?

Nice one, thanks. That's definitely got that horror-movie-in-an-aslyum vibe going for it, great stuff.

Okay. Now what exactly is the conclusive evidence of this release being a "white supremacist split"? There are no lyrics published, not on MA nor anywhere else on the web, from what I can find. In fact, two of the bands on the split don't have any of their lyrics from any of their releases published at all and there's practically no info of any kind on the bands whatsoever. And the title of the song in question, "For Blood and Soil", could really mean a lot of things, pretty vague and wide open to interpretation.

Sure, I suppose it's possible that Naas Alcameth could be a Nazi but the evidence here is dubious at best.

Sigh

* Blood and Soil is a very well known white supremacist phrase. It is neither vague nor open to interpretation.
* The album cover has both an Iron Cross and Life Rune on it.
* One of the other bands on the split, Bellum, has both an Iron Cross and a Celtic Cross in their logo.
* The split that Rhune put out after this, also with Bellum, was on the NSBM label Non Compos Mentis.
* The former singer of Rhune was also in a band called Buchenwald Oven, that has swastikas and totenkopfs in their logo.

Maybe, maybe, one of those on there I could take as a coincidence or just kids being edgy. But this isn't even a dog whistle, it's a fucking blaring, obvious announcement saying "Nazis here! Come get your Nazi music!" And sure, people change, grow, etc, but until you show me an interview with Kyle wholeheartedly denouncing all of this shit, I'm never listening to his music again.

Will have to keep an eye out for posters / art prints for their stuff - I'd never end up wearing the shirt, so won't waste the cash.

Ordering the vinyl + the digital code is the best of both worlds for me, decent prices too :D

So, since - as you guys noted - the album leaked, we now provide you with a full album stream in good quality. Prepare to be blasted away:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0aAMB26ZKU

Here is the full press-release for the stream:

The mundane world could not wait any longer for the nightmarish revelation brought about by "Melinoë", the third AKHLYS album. Alas, who are we to stand in the way of this furious demonic force that wants to unleash itself? Today, Debemur Morti Productions is proud to premiere - about a month before the official release date on December 18th - the full album stream of "Melinoë".

A lot has changed in the art of AKHLYS, since Naas started composing music and released the first album "Supplication" in 2009. While the second long player, namely "The Dreaming I" (2015), was already hailed as a masterpiece by press and fans alike, "Melinoë" highlights even further Naas' constant development as musician as well as lyricist and his unbending will to give musical substance to esoteric tradition:

"Given that "Supplication" was purely a Dark Ambient album, there is naturally going to be quite different elements musically speaking. As far as overall vision and voice, I would say that the entire concept, over the years, has been refined to a level of such potency that it has taken on a spirit all its own. It is unique, quickly identifiable and it radiates an aura that is native to the concepts that inform it. The lyrical approach has also changed throughout the years and is more classically framed within prose and poetry making it far more intentional regarding placement, meter and so on. More importantly, the experiences I have drawn from have been considered over a longer period of time and interpreted through a lens of deeper insight", explains Naas himself.

Followers of Naas' artistic career (NIGHTBRINGER, AORATOS) already know that the American Black Metal musician has a keen eye for detail and works rigorously until all elements - be it musical, visual, or lyrical - fall into place. Unsurpringsingly, the first two released singles - "Pnigalion" and "Ephialtes" - matched and complemented each other in their approach to embody the vision behind "Melinoë". Now, all compositions are audible in the carefully crafted context of the whole album. They are integrated in a specific track order whose dynamic is especially important to unleash their full potential:

"When I began composing and tracking what would become the first song of the album, which I tend to do in tandem, I tried to envision the album’s opening. I wanted to set an immediate mood with straight forward dense synth that would be followed by a rising composition with the Metal instrumentation, a brief pause, and then all hell breaking lose. I really wanted to capture the dread and ultimate panic of the experiences that inform the project and assault the listener with it all. From there a natural progression unfolded, which you can see between the first and second track especially. It all arose quite organically from there and started to relay a sort of story like progression from song to song. The Ambient track was just as intentionally placed as the album sort of shifts a bit, diving a bit deeper after this point. The final track I knew had to be completely grand and epic in scope so that took a lot of thought. I composed all of the syhths, from beginning to end, on that track first, and used the atmosphere to guide the rest of the work."

As AKHLYS has taken on a life of its own, listeners may rest assured that "Melinoë" won't be the last demon to be set lose onto the world. Until then, rejoice in the nightmarish and terrifying atmosphere the mixture of intense Black Metal and evocative Dark Ambient has to offer!

"Melinoë" will be released on CD, vinyl and digitally on December 18th. Pre-orders are still possible via the label's EU shop, Bandcamp and US shop.

Thanks! I didn't get any mails and this morning it still wasn't available. Super cool move by Debemur Morti. Listening right now and it's a beast. Can't wait for the CD to arrive (yeah, I know it won't be out until November).

Not just used an Evola sample in a song, but spoke very highly of him as an inspiration in a recent Decibel interview: https://www.decibelmagazine.com/2017/04 ... nterview/#. Not to mention the other shady connections. And I encourage anyone who thinks that they veer too close to philosophical/spiritual musings to be far right to research mystical fascist thought.

I’m not going to say that Naas is far right but there’s enough circumstantial evidence that I personally don’t feel comfortable buying his albums anymore, despite really enjoying Akhlys and Aoratos.

EDIT: The former lead singer of Rhune has the solo band Vernichtungskamp that is unabashedly NSBM according to their logo and demo from 2001: https://www.metal-archives.com/albums/V ... bage/82335

Mostly what I get from all of this evidence is that he is into mysticism and the occult from all angles, including those that appear to be totally incompatible with each other in other philosophical ways.
