So on top of The Ruins Of Beverast and Fen, I'm also going to +1 the mentions of Suffering Hour, Blut Aus Nord (especially if it's Memoria Vetusta IV), Wolves In The Throne Room, and Sacramentum. Solefald and Sigh should be interesting too, and may be a good excuse for me to catch up on their discographies!

Also, An Axis Of Perdition had been talking about a new album since they officially reformed like 2 years ago, and keep saying "very very soon" and such. The EP Effluvia was pretty spooky, but fucking hell I want more sheer madness from them!!

I missed this discussion a couple pages back, but you guys are going to love this. This album totally rips. I have a strong feeling it will get ignored (as these bands often do), but definitely do whatever you can to hear this album because it's really good!

2021 will see the release of the first full-length album by Norwegian black metal band Umoral. They released an EP in 2007, but after that nothing new came out.
This band features Teloch (guitarist Mayhem) and Zweizz (vocalist Fleurety).

This shouldn't be surprising but when Scar Sighted came out Wrest seemed genuinely happy and it shows. It's his best work by a mile. Not sure if he's in that mindset right now but things have been a lot slower since he parted ways with Devout Records.

The blurb on the Decibel Most Anticipated Albums of 2021 list doesn't seem to indicate that they're losing interest in black metal, but rather that they're bringing more influences from traditional heavy metal and folk, psychedelic and alternative rock into their existing black metal sound.

I see - I guess it comes down to how the ratio of BM to non-BM ends up playing out. Even with how their sound has developed over the years, I've noticed it staying very close to 50/50. As much as I'm sure these new influences will be welcome and interesting, I hope they don't fully change their sound the way Solstafir did. Don't get me wrong, I think Solstafir became a better band when they ditched black metal, but that balance that Falls Of Rauros has is one of the things I think establishes their sound.

That said these guys are good musicians and writers, so I'm sure it'll still be quite good anyway, even if it does end up being different.

Someone else mentioned it already, but Razor might be putting something out. Their drummer has posted of recording stuff in studio for some future release, and given the pandemic and general inactivity of everything I've gotten my hopes up a bit. Also kinda hoping Demo Hammer gets their shit together and does that record they've been talking about since reuniting, but that's probably more of a long shot. James doesn't look like he's doing that great.

I just got a reply from Per Nilsson on one of his videos the there most likely will be a new Kaipa album this year! Not metal, but this is what I look forward to the most. Unless there's a new Morgana Lefay coming.

Aara are releasing a new album on March 26 titled Triade I: Eos which is a pretty quick turnaround since they just put out En Ergo Einai last year. The first single is already out.

They have 2 demos i had never heard before but this song from the upcoming release is as cvlt and old school as BM gets these days. Also checked their other stuff on bandcamp and it's certainly worth keeping an eye out for the new release.

Maybe not necessarily the most, but when he joined I had to start taking a look into them, and they're definitely one of the best bands of their variety that is still around.

They're tagged as atmospheric black metal on the Archives, which I suppose fits well enough. They just happen to be a bit more upbeat than your average atmoblack band, with melodic and neoclassical influences that set them apart.

The voice is gone. That has to be accepted. It's just age. But he still has Ed and these are the same guys who wrote Nightmare Theatre, tMofHaH, Inv and HoA. So why not?

Doing good man. Into my forties now and haven't 'outgrown' the metal yet. It might have outgrown me though. Don't recognize half the bands making the best of lists in recent years. This is still the best place to get metal news and updates. I'm around. Pretty much active lurker status.

So far, only 3 albums that I'm very highly anticipating......... Totale Vernichtung's - "Verdunkelungsverbrechen", Vemod's - "The Deepening", and Mouth of Sauron's second half of "Berserker I"........ anything else will def come over time. but these are the one's that I have been anticipating for months now.
