Really loved Mesa's EP last year, they're apparently got a full album in the works.

Wode apparently signed with 20 Buck Spin and will have a new release out on April 2 titled Burn In Many Mirrors. They released the first single today:

Aren't Gutvoid supposed to release their debut album this year? I need my fix of Demilich/Timeghoul/Blood Incantation-esque death metal :P

Yes please.

However, I think the Apr 30 release is just a 2-song 7". But judging by the fact that they only now have set up a FB and YT page, I'm guessing/hoping an album is on the horizon.

They just premiered the new single a few hours ago:

Boy really happy it sounds like they haven’t missed a beat. Really hope we’ll see a full length.

The guitars are very Naas. I didn't like the production on the drums tho. It went too roomy.

The guitars are done by the guy from Decoherence, which explains the production. I believe the member of Akhlys is the drummer. I'm not completely sure who the vocalist is.

It's good! but I'm not too keen on the production. It takes away a lot of intensity.

No fucking idea about release date but Emerald (80s Christian power metal from the US) has been working on a new album since about 2019. Very highly looking forward to it. Haven't heard a lick of news since guitarist Dave Enos broke the news they're working on a new album at their reunion concert in 2019. Bummed that original vocalist Larry Philips won't be a part of it, as his singing is a huge part of the appeal of their 80s EP Armed For Battle, but I understand they're reasons.... Their current guy is pretty good, but just not the same. But Dave Enos is seriously a great guitarist and songwriter.

I had no idea Emerald was working on anything new. If you like Emerald, I highly recommend Zion. They have a similar sound to Emerald. I do not know much about that style, Christian or non. Emerald and Zion, are one of the few Christian metal bands that I listen to. Although Zion, seems to be stronger on the lyric side. I didn't want to derail this thread too much, but the full album by Zion is on Youtube. Zion - Thunder from the Mountain 1989 if you want to give it a listen.

After hearing the new track on Black Lion’s Bandcamp, I’m looking forward to the new This Ending album entitled “Needles of Rust”. Frederick Anderson is out but Peter Nagy (Mörk Gryning) is in on drums and it sounds pretty excellent. If you want some melodic Swedish death metal with some balls this would be it.

If you take the guy out of that pic it would actually make a nice cover with just the table and the items on it

Infernal decadence was really good

Yeah, the dude kind of ruins it. It's just weird that they went from an over the top good cover to an over the top bad cover. The previous one was great.

I had their debut on the other day. Pretty good stuff. I'm certainly going to be checking this one out.

Say what you will about the cover of the Spectral Wound album (i actually don't mind it. I'd take it over another black and white photo of a forest), that track absolutely rips.

The new Sielunvihollinen album titled Teloituskäsky is scheduled for release on April 2nd. A sample track has also been posted on their Bandcamp page. Pretty much sounds like what you'd expect from them which is a good thing IMO.

Has there been any word on the progress of the new Obscura album that's coming out this year? Really excited to see what direction they take with this one now that the four album concept is over with.

They were in Sweden recording it with Fredrik Nordstrom a couple of months ago. I'd imagine it's done by now, just a matter of figuring out a release date so they can start promoting it.

In 2018 Throne (https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Throne/3540443344) released the EP Altar of the Dying, which for me was the debut of the year. Amazing album, if you don't know it, do yourself a favor and check it out.

https://thronemetal.bandcamp.com/

They now released their new single and announced an LP coming in April. Needless to say my expectations are really high for this one.

The single got me a bit concerned because the drums sound a bit of, (got better after a couple of listens but still), yet I'm hoping that gets fixed until the release. Otherwise the song is excellent Blackened Death and on level with their 1st release.

New Dordeduh is officially announced tomorrow, but the song is already available on youtube

https://youtu.be/MZf-UE5I2n4

Not a big fan of the cover ! I like Chioreanu's artwork in general, but this seems kinda cheap & fake. Lacks the atmosphere of their earlier artwork...

As for the song, I remember hearing an instrumental version of it on youtube.
The main riff is quite good, but it sounds a bit disjointed as though it's composed of two different songs (or three what with the post-rockish clean vocals).

I don't understand the inclusion of the lengthy ambient passage part. Perhaps it should have been its own separate song a la dojana...

I expected they'd release the other song they play live as the first single (which is as good as most stuff on Dar De Duh )

Overall it feels good to hear Hupogrammos' voice again...

Gonna preorder it tomorrow.

Hyped for the music, and agreed on the cover... I liked the art for Dar De Duh, this is something else.

Not sure what to think of the new song. It'll probably grow on me but so far I'm not impressed. Album cover is a bit meh, yeah.

Goddamn, it's about time. I've been anticipating this for like 7 years.

The song is not bad - interesting that it has almost a bit more of a doom feel to it rather than black metal. The ambient section is a tad bloated, but honestly that's something to be expected with this group, and their albums tend to flow as one collective piece rather than a collection of songs going back as far as 'n crugu bradului so I won't judge too harshly yet.

Amorphis are now in the midst of recording new material. I absolutely loved "Queen of Time", so it's safe to say I'm looking forward to whatever they're coming up with next.

Gojira comes out with their new album "Fortitude" on April 30th.

New single is out and it's all over the place, but that could be just on the first listen.

Listening to the advance tracks of the new Sanguisugabogg album and the vocals are ridiculous but I’m loving the over the top heaviness.

Friend just sent me this the other day, happy to hear there's still life in this project! While this track feels underwhelming to me I'm still optimistic for the rest of the album given their phenominal consistency up to now.

I don't know if this is considered anticipated or already released -- it has a date of March 15 but the digital version is obviously right there, available to to buy and hear. Anyway, it's tremendous Chinese death metal in a kind of squirmy, shimmery Finn vein, with some usual Incantationisms in there as well. Still it manages to sound very singular and idiosyncratic.

https://mvltifission.bandcamp.com/album ... amorphosis

(There's even a Demilich cover.)

Whatever the fuck it is, it's probably the best death metal I've heard this young year. Really hope some CDs make it to the States.

New Empyrium comes out tomorrow "Uber den Sternen" I got early access to the album and it is really good. Reminds me of a mix of "At Night the Wood Grouse Plays" and "Songs of Moors and Misty Fields" any of you hear the new songs yet? Here is a link to a new music video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irWk-toPqHs

Cheers!

New Spectral Lore announced called Ετερόφωτος which is quite hard to translate to be honest. They tried their best in the press report anyway:

“Ετερόφωτος” is a word without an exact translation in English: In approximation it means "the one whose light comes from others"

TRACKLIST
1. Ατραπός (12:42)
2. The Golden Armor (7:33)
3. Initiation Into Mystery (7:57)
4. The Sorcerer Above The Clouds (11:16)
5. Αpocalypse (8:04)
6. Ετερόφωτος (9:30)
7. Terean (19:09)
Total Time 76:12

Preordered already Mystras and last year's split were both too good!
