This is some very fine death/doom that came out a few days ago. They knocked it out of the park with this one.

I also posted Worm, which is some very good death/doom as well, but I see someone else already linked it. :).

Listening to Burial's album right now, almost done. One of the best releases of 2021 so far!

I have Burial cued up to listen to next because I keep hearing about them, but why the hell did they pick that name? There are dozens of bands with that name, including in metal, and some outside of it are relatively prominent like the dubstep one. Couldn't they have come up with something more creative? Even something from one of the track titles would have been better, like "Formless Unraveler", "Outern Creation", "Inner Gateways", "Slumbering Equilibrium" or something like that.

Probably so, but at least it avoids this sort of conversation.

X: "Yeah, I was just listening to the new release from Burial."

Y: "Oh, After The Burial" has a new one out?

X: "No, Burial."

Y: "Oh, the tech/melodeath band The Burial from Indiana?"

X: "No no no, not "The Burial", no "The", just "Burial."

Y: "Wait, isn't that the dubstep act from London?"

x: "No, not that one, they're metal."

Y: "Oh, you mean the one from the Netherlands that released the classic Relinquished Souls in '93?

X: "No, they're a newer band."

Y: "Oh, the ones from Manchester that released Satanic Upheaval last year, I see."

X: "Ah no, not that one either I'm afraid."

Etc.

Yeah, there are currently 14 bands called Burial in the archives. Pretty lame name if you ask me.

I agree that it was a poor choice of words. I'm a big fan of the OSDM band from the Netherlands, and the brutal death band from the US is pretty good too. Tormentor is another band name that has been very popular, and I have listened to what must have been 4 or 5 of them, and surely they must be aware of the other ones... There are a bunch of other names that have been overused too. Before the mid 2000s or so bands can get a pass since it wasn't so easy to check if a band's name is taken, but not so much today. I guess I am just so used to it that it doesn't bother me much.

And, not metal, but Gelure is some really good dungeon synth if anyone is into that.

Anti released an album !

First listen and I'm not feeling the vocals, at all. I love the riffs though and the overall atmosphere is a lot fuller. But considering The Insignificance of Life is one of my favorite albums, this isn't that. It's definitely more melodic, the drums are a lot more refined and tempo is a lot more varied. I guess the vocals will grow on me.

@ LithoJazzoSphere It's not a good name because of the over use I agree. Couldn't care less if there is a band with the same name outside of metal.
I listened to that Burial album few days back and didn't think anything of it at all so to me it's a band to forget.
Anyway this thread is not for discussions like this is it, now I just replied clogging this thread with junk.

From this track alone, at least, i'm already hyping the full album.

Never heard of this band and i'm very impressed it's a one-man project. Not an unusual thing, but i always feel shocked.

I already quoted this, but also included the part about Burial, which distracted me. Anyway, I gave Worm a listen a few days ago (also kind of a generic name, but at least the only other bands with that name were just ones that released demos 2-3 decades ago), and found it very enjoyable, the eerie clean guitars were especially a nice touch.

I did a quick search in this thead, and I haven't seen Memoriam's newest album mentionned. It came out in March and some might have missed it.

As a huge Bolt Thrower fan, I always had a hard time getting into Memoriam's music as they often seemed to try to reproduce Bolt Thrower's sound, and this just doesn't work for me. But this new album is pretty neat, and while it retains some of the key elements of Bolt Thrower's song writing, feels more like Memoriam doing their own thing, and it feels less like discount Bolt Thrower then some of their previous material.

Worth a listen:

I could swear we talked about it somewhere, but it might have been in its own thread or elsewhere. I'm not as big on the Bolt Thrower style as many here, but it was a pretty decent album.

Recently purchased Anthropophagous - Death Fugue and am blown the fuck away by it. The riffs are mean as fuck, and the tempo changes happen in all the right places. Just super well written and lethal death metal with lots of Autopsy influence and additional sharp thrash riffs thrown in for good measure. It's a short and sweet 33 minutes too--all killer and no filler. Love it.

That track isn't even on the main part of the album. It's a bonus track that was originally on a single track demo from last year (rerecorded). If you want something from the main album check this out.

Also check out the dude's first album. It actually got a fair bit of hype in the atmo-black circle 6 years ago when it first came out, and I'm definitely glad to see him back with fresh material now.

The Generals - To Hell

This album was released way back in February, but I just started listening to it recently and I thought this certainly deserved more recognition.

    It’s Swedeath.
    It’s produced by Tomas Skogsberg.
    It’s good shit!

Yeah, i'm aware, the channel told so in the description.

I will listen to the other songs, for sure!

Surprised no one is talking about the new Gaahl's Wyrd EP. Similar to their last album, which means it's fantastic and bizarre in the best ways. The Dwell is maybe my favorite black metal song so far this year: https://gaahlswyrd.bandcamp.com/album/t ... g-mountain

In Crucem Agere - Calling the Void.

Second album from these Austrians. Came out a couple weeks ago, and is really good black metal with a lot of dissonance without being just another Deathspell Omega sounding band.

It's a bit more towards the Massive Killing Capacity, even Wolverine Blues at times more melodic/'n' roll side of Swedeath, but yeah, it's a pretty good album.

Thy Worshipper has a new one out. I was personally blown away by their Klechdy album from the first listen and this one is also quite good.

Vertebra Atlantis - Lustral Purge In Cerulean Bliss

Really enjoying this one today that is being released tomorrow on Voidhanger records. Seems the band is not on the archives yet, but they are another band playing dissonant black/death.

SHORES OF LADON finally released their second LP, along with a companion EP and another LP from a side project of two of the members.

Suffice it to say, all three releases are phenomenal, as is typical for the Sol/Deviant camp of artists (Shores of Ladon, Shroud of Satan, Grail, Cold Earth, Fullmoon Lunacy).

Green Lung - Black Harvest

Well, if last year gave us Wytch Hazel, this year gives us Green Lung.
A stoner/doom infused retro Sabbath worship, that is absolutely brilliant. I think this will get a lot of spins in the upcoming days.

I definitely prefer my black metal to be avant-garde, and this scratches that itch nicely. Thanks. :)

I could have sworn that the album was already mentioned, but now I can't find it (must have been a different thread), but I need to super recommend the new album "Shock to the System" by Tower. I really liked their "Tomorrow & Yesterday" EP, but honestly, this blows it out of the water. Absolutely blasted past my expectations. I think the vocals, particularly, put it well over the top. Great NWOTHM release.

I haven't heard that EP, but I did hear the debut album a bit ago, and the new one is definitely an improvement upon it, quite a solid release.

I second this choice. Not sure why your link got messed up but here's a link to their bandcamp. It's worth checking out just because the album art has an insane amount of stuff going on while still being fantastic.

Today might be the single best release date I've experienced all year. I've bumped relevant threads for several of these, but just to adumbrate: killer releases from Swallow the Sun, Obscura, Khemmis, and Converge/Chelsea Wolfe. Also heard The Lurking Fear, and musically it's quite interesting, but I just don't know if I can get used to Lindberg's new blown-out voice, it seems even more distracting than it was on the latest At The Gates.

Atmospheric/dissonant black metal from Poland. I'm not familiar with his (it's a one man show) previous albums, but this one sounds great so far...
