I really can't get it. This album got released just now, seems to be doing pretty well on Bandcamp and i don't have any substantial info on the band's status. Here is what the artist said about it: I feel that now Trisagion has had the chance to hit the wider space, now is the best time to announce the following: Trisagion will be the final Ethereal Shroud album. This was planned from the beginning. I knew Trisagion would be the final work that I'd do as Ethereal Shroud. I'm thankful to those who have been aware but have respected my wishes to keep it secret and allow me the chance to announce this fact when I was ready. As a means of artistic expression, Ethereal Shroud has now said all it needs to say. I'm unsure what's next for me, but I'll keep you all updated here with what comes next artistically from me. He has spoken many times about how emotionally taxing a process it is for him to create this music, so I was not surprised at the announcement. With that said, plenty of artists have said similar things, and then resurfaced later, even sometimes under the old moniker. I doubt that will happen here. I just hope we hear more from JH as he's a tremendous musician (his other dormant project Of Solitude and Solemn is also great by the way). Oh, what a bummer. But i respect his decision and it's totally justified. Anyway, better to go off this way than to disband after something subpar. |

Spoiler:
show
First full-length album in 27 years! Sounds like some very competent and hard-hitting old-school death metal. https://emanzipation.bandcamp.com/album ... we-deserve |

I just received my copy of the new OTARGOS album, and it rips. If you are into black/death kind of hybrid, I highly recommend this album. Sort of like Behemoth but better. |

Wilytank about Ethereal Shroud wrote: He also announced that the 2021 recording of the song "Lanterns" was included on some label's suicide prevention sampler. I forget the name of said label, but it nyp on Bandcamp though proceeds if you do spend money go to a suicide prevention charity. If anyone remembers the label name that's doing this, please post it because I'm at work right now. Otherwise I'll get to it later. Update: here it is. A 101 track compilation of black metal, post-black metal, sludge and some other stuff. Money goes to a suicide prevention charity. https://ripcordrecords.bandcamp.com/album/you-matter |

That album version of "Lanterns" is pretty great, very different from the earlier version, which is also great. |

Not sure if its been mentioned, but that new Darkwoods My Bethroned - Angel Of Carnage Unleased is fantastic. Really enjoying it. Stormkeep - Tales Of Othertime is another black metal highlight of the year for me. They kind of veer into the 'core' stuff but I am loving Rivers Of Nihil - The Work and Knocked Loose - A Tear In The Fabric Of Life. Archspire - Bleed The Future is some insane tech death that I really enjoy. Usually I'm not a huge tech death fan but this album is crazy. |

Frightful deliver excellent death/thrash with a hint of Dissection here and there. Another gem in the already pretty impressive string of albums released in the death/thrash and black/thrash albums this year. |

Depravity - End of Games https://depravity-official.bandcamp.com/ Was listening to this album thinking it was the Australian Depravity (Thanks to spotify's staff being utter incompetent when it comes to archiving music under the right artist), kept saying to myself, this sounds a bit more Tech and Black metal than their usual releases but sounds very interesting. Turns out it's a completely different band from Poland. Nonetheless, an Ep worth checking out, a nice blend of Old School Death, Tech Death and Black Metal, that at times actually resembles the mentioned Australian counterpart. |

The new Wound album is worth checking out if you're into melodic death metal on the heavier end of the spectrum. |

A shoutout for whoever posted this (saw it posted earlier in the thread while browsing through it yesterday). Excellent black/death with an epic feel to it, very likely to crack my top 10 this year. I knew of Avenger, which was the previous name of this band, even saw them live in 2004, but had completely forgotten about them and what they sound like. |

First album from these Russians. Thank you very much for providing this link, I was just scouring through this thread and clicked to hear some good stuff and this one delivered, quite in spades I must say. Can only recommend Orbital Soul System for some pretty kickass black/death metal with space ambiance and even a slight 80s synth-pop influence here and there. |

Great albums sometimes suddenly appear out of nowhere that weren't even on your radar. I didn't even realize they were still together, or reformed, much less that they were releasing a new album, but Thalarion's Dying On the Scorched Plains just came out last week, their first album in 17 years. Their earlier release Four Elements Mysterium is one of the most unheralded albums I know of, and hearing a track from it in '02 laid the foundation for a chunk of my taste, mostly unbeknownst to me at the time. It's too early to really say and I doubt it's on that level, but it's another excellent melodic/gothic doom/death album. This track might be of the most interest to others here, since it has the most black-ish elements. |

Really glad I haven't submitted my list yet, because Mega Colossus' Riptime came out of absolutely nowhere and is turning out to be one of the best heavy metal releases of the year: https://music.meltedfaces.com/album/riptime. It's like if Twisted Tower Dire were slightly more trad/speed than power. Fans of Visigoth, Eternal Champion, Walpyrgus need to check this out immediately. |

Ossaert - Pelgrimsoord https://argentorecords.bandcamp.com/album/pelgrimsoord This album has been quite the grower. 1st listen didn't stick and I kinda forgot about it. Then, while revisiting some earlier stuff to make sure I wasn't missing anything before submitting my poll, I really got addicted to it to the point where it might even get a spot in the 10. Clean vocals in BM usually make me cringe but the ones in here are awesome and fit the music quite well. The music itself is a mix that goes back and forth between an old school BM style and a more modern atmospheric approach. Nothing I would call out of the box or innovative, just a well done album that makes for very pleasurable listening. I completely missed their release last year as well, might give that one a try later on. |

Wow, Phantom Elite's Titanium was quite unexpected. I'd liked a single I heard earlier this year, but didn't get around to checking out the whole album until just recently. This is super late in the year, but I still have an open spot in my top 10, and this actually could have a shot at it if I invest a bit more time into it in the next few days. Interestingly, we list them as symphonic metal here, as do some other places, but I'm not even sure that's the right subgenre for them. That aspect is there in moments for sure, but they're a bit more subtle about it. It is reminiscent of Delain at times, and while the vocals aren't quite as exquisite as Charlotte's, the music has a bit more of an edge to it, with some proggier facets and some electronic influence, though not as overbearing as the modern power metal bands we've been discussing in the other thread. The guitar work is surprisingly accomplished in the solos. |

Gravetemplar wrote: Nice to see some Charnel Altar appreciation here, the demo is fantastic death metal. Need a vinyl press asap, as it's only available on cd (?) right now. Late to the party, and will just scrape in (NYE down under), but this album is some amazing black metal from Australia. The two track track ep/demo was really good and promising stuff, but the album is just brilliant, and gets better with every listen. Many varied an mixed influences, yet it still sounds vital and fresh - to me I hear a more BM derived Destroyer 666 and Primordial (at a glance) in it's tone and atmosphere. Great, great album for those looking for some more, new BM. Only on CD right now through Seance Records Australia, but I hope they will see to giving this a vinyl release at some stage. |

Pretty sure the vinyl is just in the standard delayed pressing queue atm, possibly still a while off. This show was in Adelaide alongside Convulsing and Gutless. I'm in Sydney too, but happened to be in Melbourne for work the day before, so decided to duck across on the way back home. Killer little show! |
