KK's Priest released their first track and some details about their debut album.

KK'S PRIEST, the new band featuring former JUDAS PRIEST members K.K. Downing (guitar) and Tim "Ripper" Owens (vocals), along with guitarist A.J. Mills (HOSTILE), bassist Tony Newton (VOODOO SIX) and drummer Sean Elg (DEATHRIDERS, CAGE), will release its debut album, "Sermons Of The Sinner", on August 20 via Explorer1 Music Group/EX1 Records. Original KK'S PRIEST drummer Les Binks (ex-JUDAS PRIEST), unfortunately, sustained a wrist injury, but will make special guest live appearances when the band tours.

"Sermons Of The Sinner" track listing:

01. Incarnation
02. Hellfire Thunderbolt
03. Sermons Of The Sinner
04. Sacerdote Y Diablo
05. Raise Your Fists
06. Brothers Of The Road
07. Metal Through And Through
08. Wild And Free
09. Hail For The Priest
10. Return Of The Sentinel

I just can't bring myself to listen to a song called 'Hellfire Thunderbolt' with Ripper Owens doing the vocals. Flashbacks to terrible Iced Earth songs. Is it any good ?

It's your average everyday garden variety heavy metal song with a chorus that says "It's a Hellfire Thunderbolt"...
we've all heard it a million times before.

 you should write the sales material for this stuff, for the stickers on the albums - "Yes, finally, something we've heard a million times before"

The around 2:43-3:05 part doing uninspired licks is the worst part of the song, losing energy after some okay solos, just no. I would enjoy it more deleting that part.

I was wondering why they put the fourth track in Spanish.
It means Priest and Devil, but they may try to differentiate it with track 9. That's some creativity.

"Brothers of the Road" and "Metal Through And Through"?? Is this band's biggest influence Anvil?

I keep reading the name of the band as KKK's Priest :D as if the music wasn't bad enough.

Pretty uninspired. Definitely feels like KK's just going through the motions and spinning his wheels.

Ripper's vocals sounded better than I anticipated, but that slow melodic part before the final chorus felt a lot like padding for length.
Sounds like any of the vast legions of JP impersonators out there.

The logo kinda-sorta looks like a swastika too if you squint really hard!

not bad but i hope thats not the strongest song on the album... there's a riff lifted from nostradamus in there, but KK always maintained he wanted better for that album, so it's ok i guess... half the song titles are references to classic priest songs, which is a bit suspicious, but could work out well if the songs play out...

the album cover is interesting, too. not great, but i see the "point" of it... it reminds me of the last QR album a bit...

Spoiler: show

Haha. Shouldn't you wait to hear the full album first. There's time yet to disappoint.

This wasn't too bad, certainly no worse than anything Priest themselves have done in decades.

I thought the double guitar solo part was bomb! Also does anyone else think that the vocals should be mixed better or perhaps raise the knob be raised a little bit? The rest of the song is ok.

Not particularly impressive on one hand, on the other hand (but ought it be such ?) it is a catchy and energetic song with a memorable chorus. They are not trying to be innovative here, or to explore some new paths, they are focused on creating drive. They do succeed in that, in my humble opinion.
I still fail to understand, why people expect bands to innovate with each new release. The guys are having fun it seems.

Honestly better than I was expecting. Having said that, this preview track is definitely going to be all I need to hear from this project as it's absolutely throw away.

Ugh. Generic. Vanilla. White bread. Nothing stood out. Destined to be in the 99 cent clearance bin at the local music shop.

I'm so over Painkiller ripoff bands. Please do something different. ANYTHING different.

I like Tim Owens' voice but he has got to have the worst record for studio albums I've ever seen. The best thing I've heard him on might actually be an Yngwie album!

Quote:
Original KK'S PRIEST drummer Les Binks (ex-JUDAS PRIEST), unfortunately, sustained a wrist injury, but will make special guest live appearances when the band tours.

Prediction: he's out of the band soon.

No idea where I got it but for some reason I thought the KK's version of Priest gonna have Les Binks on the drums. Seems like I was wrong.

Les Binks couldn’t be part of the record due to a wrist injury? Sounds like bullshit to me.

Honestly one of the worst names for a project I've ever seen. KK is slang for "shit" and "asshole" here so the name reads "Asshole Priest".

There are no bands named either 'Shit Priest' or 'Asshole Priest' in the archives. I feel let down by the grindcore community, if I'm honest. There is a 'Discoshit', so it's not a total loss. Thinking about it, KK's Disco sounds like a place that middle aged men go to get arrested.

At least Anvil are (were in 2018) still putting out great shows on the road. Not something that can be said for Judas Priest the last years.

Songs was cheesy, but the solo was nice enough and I can see myself having fun at one of their shows with a mix from old stuff and new stuff and some beers, if they put some energy behind it which a new formation hopefully pushes them too.

Bit sad that Les Binks isn't included (fully?).

People complained by how different "Priest" sounded on Jugulator and Demolition (Pantera wannabes)....and now those same bitches complain when they deliver a "Priest" song by the numbers. This track is exactly what we should have suspected considered the last two Priest albums. It sounds like an outtake from Redeemer. Pretty cool. It's good enough. I just hope Owens doesn't use his lower "I'm so hardass" metalcore voice anywhere on this album. He sounds ridiculous when he goes there. Just stick to sounding like Rob and you'll do fine.

I love that the single uses the exact same riffs as Priest's Nostradamus, which itself is a Painkiller ripoff lol.

Well it is not "exactly the same", but very close. It is not all that uncommon for bands to rehash their own riffs.

Yeah I mean after 20+ years or so it seems insane not to expect some familiarity in riffs or writing if the same people are in the band.

I bet the album isn't genre-hopping. And that's alright to me!It's an okay song at least, maybe even better.

wanted to like this but that riff is so generic. and I like Primal Fear and Running Wild ffs. I agree it sounds a lot like the only good song on Nostradamus. but it's so based on that tedious VI-VII tail. good break, solo though.

I'd go and see them live if they did Jawbreaker and Jugulator songs

Believe me I'm well aware. But this is plagiarism levels of close, this is Jeff Waters level territory we're talking here lol.

Also forgive me for embellishing a little, I forgot that metal internet board is serious business.

Me and some friends like to play "Metal Archives bingo" where we come up with generic band names and check how many bands already use them. Turns out "Chainsaw Autopsy" is still unused. So if you have an Indonesian brutal death metal band that needs an name, then here you go.

The track titles alone have kind of killed my hope that this album is gonna be good. It all just screams that generic, super cheesy, unlikable hard rock aesthetic. "Brothers of the Road" "Wild and Free" "Metal Through and Through"... it feels like looking at a bunch of unreleased Ram it Down tracks.

Hellfire Thunderbolt wasn't awful but it wasn't anything special either. No worse than anything on Redeemer but that isn't a very high bar.

Holy shit, I was fully prepared to shit on this... but it's really good. Better than the last Priest album even. And I don't even like Ripper Owens!!
