Just stumbled across this. Is it some kind of joke or a world record in being unimaginative? I see the wink in the dead guys eye but still, this has to take the cake :D

https://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Leprosy/Death/991089

I guess the comparison is kind of superfluous but still...

I'm more surprised that that band was formed over 30 years ago and managed to reunite 25 years after disbanding. And hasn't ever released a full album, just a couple demos.

It's called an homage.

What's the issue?

Obviously partly an homage (probably the band was named after the album)/partly a joke and also a good marketing strategy since it makes people create posts on forums/fb dedicated to single by the band most of people were unaware of before.

I was kinda expecting Leprosy played backwards or something but those guys aren't half bad actually. Judging by their youtube channel, they sure love their Death :D

When played at 1.5 speed it sounds much better. Original's too damn slow!

What is up with this playing it faster fad?

This.

I had never heard of these guys before this thread. And I can always respect musicians paying homage to bands that influenced them significatively.

The real Leprosy snare sound had a nice snap to it, and at least had some wet reverb on it to remind us that it was still the 80s

Edit: typo

I don't understand why you think that; to me it sounds like 1000 other metal snares.

Also, when you do things like this, don't you open yourself up to being sued for copyright infringement or intellectual property or something? I understand its a homage but is that not something to consider? it's basically a straight rip. Is that not something to be concerned about?

Pretty sure that in cases like this the owners of the copyright would have to show damages of some sort. That seems basically impossible given that they would be suing what is essentially a tribute band with an almost non-existent fanbase. It wouldn't be worth the time and effort.

I think it's kinda cute... And now I'm sadly reminded that I lost my original Leprosy LP signed by Chuck :( Always was my favorite Death album too.
