I don't believe any band should retire based on people wanting them to if others are still listening and going to shows. People said this about Slayer for years.

However, if I were to pick a band that desperately needs a drastic change, it's Anaal Nathrakh. At one point in time, they could have been my absolute favorite band, around the time of In the Constellation. Since then, they have released an insane 6 albums from 2011-2020, largely the same thing repeatedly aside from the awesome The Whole of the Law. The only thing I remember about Endarkenment is penises

Endarkenment was a bit more melodic, more choruses and stuff. But yeah, the rest of them are pretty similar. I still enjoy those albums though, A New Kind Of Horror is my favorite.

Endarkenment is my favorite Anaal Nathrakh album yet, so I'd actually prefer they keep on their current trajectory.

Yeah, I love that album too.

I'm curious, what do you guys think of Gojira's new material? Still liking Magma and Fortitude, or do you think the band is falling off?

While I enjoy albums like Terra Incognita, The Way of All Flesh, and (obviously) From Mars to Sirius a lot more, I still like the newer less-heavy stuff. I don't think they'll ever top a lot of the albums in their current catalogue, but I hope they stick around for awhile. And I read that they're talking about going heavier for the next album. That won't be for a while, but I'm excited.

I didn’t like Magma very much but I think Fortitude is a much better record. It’s the album that Magma should have been. It might not be quite up to the standard of From Mars to Sirius or The Way of all Flesh but it’s very enjoyable. They’re still a great live band too. Can’t wait to see them in March.

Incntation and Immolation - for both of them - you can buy one album, it will sound like any other of their discography, it's enough.

:getout: you've got some serious brain damage if you can't hear the difference between dawn of possession and majesty and decay

Sorry for Immolation - forgot to mention that I'm talking about few last LPs. I have Failures For Gods and Harnessing Ruin - it's quite enough for me.

So you're basically saying that you're not a big Immolation fan, therefor, they should just quit..... because the two Immolation albums you own are enough for you.

You should've put this comment over in the "dumb opinions" thread. Immolation are probably the most consistent band in all of death metal. They're literally the polar opposite of what this thread is about lol.

A New Kind of Horror is my favourite, too. I do like most later Anaal Nathrakh stuff, however a slight change of pace wouldn't go astray.

You know, that most important element of Aria' art is that they sing in Russian, and their poetry been written by proffesionals. Apart of music (which has a lot of borrowings from Iron Maiden), their entire mix of metal and lyrics is a very solid. That's why after all these years of digging black, death, doom and dark electro branches again and again I'm returning back to the music of childhood which are Aria, Master, Korrozia Metalla early stuff (including Alisa and Kino, who are not suitable for this site :)))). Probably this is simply aging :)

Could be :) I guess I've really never been able to "identify" with their lyrics even though Pushkina and Elin are professionals. They're more story-like than personal, and I find that personal expression and genuine passion has become the most important thing I value in art.

Kid, you have 26 posts in here and you're alreay being an insufferable know-it-all dick to members of this forum, throwing your shitty hot takes around like they are stone cold facts. I don't care if you want to defend garbage like modern In Flames and Arch Enemy, hell I even agreed with your take on Carcass not deserving to be listed in this thread, but you're being such a douchebag right now. If you don't like MA's forums, no one is keeping you from leaving. There are plenty of Facebook groups and subreddits where you'll be able to talk with people who have similar tastes to yours.

Seriously. If you're going to barge-in on threads like these accusing people of "not evolving" or calling them "pathetitc bunch of girls" (nice sexism there by the way, classy) because they don't like the stuff you like, you can fuck right off.

You started this thread trashing In Flames and others. I think you can handle a little push back on your own takes. There’s no rule here we all have to have the same tastes.

Does anyone listen to any of this? Are there any fans of these bands? Why do they exist?!?! :O :O

I was just listening to The Haunted Strength in Numbers on a walk before so yeah...they're not the same without Anders but neither is At the Gates.

You are not. The last two - especially Cycle of Revenge are fantastic hard right turns from their death metal material.

Weird thread, who are we to tell the bands if they should quit or not? Saying that, Metallica easily. Last interesting thing they did was St. Anger and that was 20 years ago, besides that they were number 1 for so many years that they have nothing left to prove. But to be honest, most old metal bands do legacy style shows and it's ok.

Most metal that is discussed here is extremely underground or was popular 30 years ago, and most of you guys hate new trends in metal like deathcore or post metal, so legacy style bands will always be popular.

Metalhead arrogance is something truly incredible.

Asking bands to retire just because you don't like what they've become is silly and childish.

How so, it's not like the bands are contractually obligated to do what I say, I can go ask them to mug and old lady if I feel so inclined.

I actually think gruesome should do that just so everyone can finally start to agree they should go the way of the dodo

The only correct answer to this thread.

they're practically a harsher, more metallic version of kingston wall now - what's not to love?

also, i've seen them twice post reunion, and they're an exceptionally great live band
