Trhä are a fabulous black metal project which I discovered earlier this week. They have already released two albums this year, the first being absolutely magical lo-fi stuff with very pretty synths and a neoclassical flair, and the second being more aggressive, taking influence from the more melodic sound of the likes of Sacramentum, yet maintaining fairly raw production. It truly sounds like music made by the faeries.

Wrong! They have actually released three albums this year. There's an earlier one from March (with an even longer album title):

https://trha.bandcamp.com/track/t-lcunn ... lhundrhaba

I found their Endlhëtonëg album from last year unique, giving the Sacramentumy one a spin now.

My mistake! Trhä certainly have proved themselves to be capable of delivering quantity without sacrificing quality. The second album of this year (which I wrongly assumed was the first) is definitely going to be on my end of year list.

This is awesome. Never heard of these lads before, but this album is really sweet. Thanks!

In Grief's album is up and I like it so far. Think of early My Dying Bride with some October Tide thrown in.

I'll probably get diabetes with the sugar overload that's coming my way today, but I honestly don't care: Aeternam and Blind Guardian dropping full length albums today? Fuck yes!
I'm cheating a bit, as I'm not yet 100% sure they'll be "worthwhile", but chances are they'll be quite alright.

Midnight released today a sort of tribute to Motörhead. Sort of, because the songs are originals but done in the vein of Lemmy and co. A solid listen, actually.

I'm listening to the new Heads of the Dead album right now and really enjoying it. It's pretty much exactly what you'd expect from this band if you're at all familiar with them, OSDM worshipping classic horror films with catchy songwriting and just the right amount of melody.

Thanx for this, need more albums that honor Motorhead and don't feature absolute trash human beings. Looking at you Tau Cross.

LoveCraft, a stoner/doom/rock band from Poland recently released their debut, called Can Abyss, and it is fucking great! You may think because of the artwork and title and lyric themes this is a shitty generic Sleep/Electric Wizard copy band, but that is far from the truth. This is more along the lines of Sabbath and other 70s heavies (and there's even just barely any Master of Reality aping-just on one song). Variety of different tempos and moods throughout. Highly recommended.

The new album from Vrenth (featuring members of Ruin and Ascended Death) dropped last week. Solid death metal in the Finnish vein (Rippikoulu, Abhorrence etc.)

I'd highly recommend checking out the new Vermilia album. I've been following this one woman project since the debut album and the songwriting has only gotten better and better. If you're looking for some atmospheric black/folk/pagan metal with memorable hooks give this a listen.

Received my pre-order of the new Innumerable Forms album early-- really solid, super enjoyable death/doom. Very recommended if you're into that style. Lots of little atmospheric bits to keep things interesting, and nice variety in the songs. "Thrall" in particular features a riff in the first part of the track that feels like a lost Candlemass riff:

I try my best not to oversell stuff and keep the writing to a minimum, different tastes and whatnot, but every now and then comes an album that leaves you with no other option.

Jumping straight to the top of the list, one of the best blends of Atmo Black with Post metal I've seen around.

A big thank you to the guy behind this, it's going to keep me busy for quite some time.

Listening now and really enjoying it. The jazzy bits are great.

Also good to see another Autonoesis album, two great albums from those guys so far.

Manticore has made a come back to very little fanfare or coverage but I really think the new album is just fantastic filthy black/death, they’ve always been one of my favourites in this style.

One man black metal from Greece in the classic Hellenic style. This one really scratches that Varathron/early Rotting Christ itch.

Just listened, that's a very polished piece of work. I recall liking their 2016 album (Illuminate the Path) but no way I could compare. Woe is getting marked for a relisten.

Disillusion and Valborg have both released new albums via Prophecy. Last Disillusion album was amazing, let's hope they maintain the high quality stuff going on. Valborg are like a mystery box; always surprising, changing styles and aesthetics but always fun and interesting. You never know what their next album will sound like. I love them both.

Great experimental black metal. If you're a fan of, say, Blut Aus Nord or Oranssi Pazuzu, but enjoy a bit of repetition kind of like Burzum, this might be up your alley. An amazing find for me, personally.

I gotta say I'm enjoying the new Bloodbath album alot more than I thought I would. I could never really get into their Nick Holmes albums, but Survival of the Sickest is pretty gruesome.

The Sonja album just kills. Great blaring, meaty riffs, direct and rocking. Digs into the heritage of metal but doesn't sound like a ripoff or some cheap homage. All around just rips.

Had a listen of the first single (I guess it was) and I thought it was great! Glad to hear the entire thing holds up! New Sumerlands should be good as well!

There's just something really cool about the Sonja - finally playing it all, as I'd had to cut it off early before. There's a genuine conviction and steeliness to it all, and the writing is very no-nonsense. The aesthetics and production are cool too and don't just play it safe with a bunch of sword and sorcery tropes.

Came here to praise Sonja, stoked y'all are talking about it too. Ethereal heavy metal with a weighty emotion behind it all. This is a must-buy for fans of Spell, In Solitude, Lunar Shadow, etc.

Oathbringer's Tales of Glory is everything i was looking for in today's metal scene and more people need to check them out. Part of the NWOTHM movement but with thrashier bits and the perfect tone of vocals and delivery.

Listened to the new Sonja twice so far. This was one of my most anticipated albums of the year, and I think it's fantastic overall, but I am a little disappointed by the rerecorded versions of Nylon Nights and Wanting Me Dead. Maybe I just got too used to how these songs were supposed to sound, but the vocals are too buried and the drums aren't quite as punchy in the parts where I expect them to be. I love the new material though. Songwriting is great, and the whole vibe feels fresh and relevant while still remaining 100% true to classic heavy metal.

Yeah I thought the same, they sound good but the vocals on the whole album should be more upfront and less echoey. Interesting change. I'll be interested to see how they evolve anyway.

The newer songs all sound more crazy and original to me actually. The first and last songs are the most experimental and then you get like "Daughter of the Morning Star," monster fucking riff.
