Rednecks are always calling other whites the n word as a sort of diss.

I know people in my area, Midwest, that called each other that word all the time as pretty much a joke. "What's up n*****?" as a standard greeting between two lily white guys in their 30's. That or quoting bits from Chappelle, or a multitude of other black comedians. It was thrown around pretty casually.

I grew up in a small town in the Mojave Desert in the 90s and early 00s, and this word was thrown around very casually like that as well. Chappelle's Show quotes were definitely a big part of that while I was in high school.

Kinda crazy to look back on and imagine happening now.

Don’t forget the part where tickets are $300-2000. Does anyone else think that Phil Anselmo will do what Venice Neil did, and walk off stage?

The fuss is that this "reunion" is about as legit as Ronnie James Dio hologram shows.

It's scammy BS and people are readily paying for it.

How is this thread interfering with people having fun by throwing money at an inauthentic reunion?

I don't think any Pantera fan isn't well aware of the Abbott's being dead and this being just Phil and Rex from the classic lineup. Pantera fans want to hear these songs live again even if its just half the lineup. And most Pantera fans love Zakk. Not sure I'd call it a scam.

I've been a Pantera fan since I was a teenager and still wouldn't go out of my way to see this. However, I don't blame them for doing it. People who never got a chance to see it back in the day are wiling to pay hundreds and buy the t-shirt. That's reality.

Eh, I mean Phil doesn't sound like total shit but did anyone seriously expect him to sing like he did in the early 90's? Otherwise the band sounds pretty tight, but to his credit Zakk's never really been a sloppy player live.

Still wouldn't go out of my way to see it though.

I'm pretty sure the people going to that tour will still have their fun regardless of what we say.

Besides, I don't get that kind of "good vibes only" bullshit logic. The complaints voiced in this thread are completely legitimate and you should not try to stop people from sharing their different perspectives on this.

I don't think anyone had seriously thought they wouldn't be able to pull it off to some degree. Benante is over qualified for the drumming spot and Zakk a capable guitarist...and a redneck.

Thing that surprised me is the restraint with pinch harmonics.

Not a huge Pantera fan but man that's a lame ass setlist they played. Pretty much only Vulgar and Far Beyond Driven songs being played. Nothing off of Trendkill.

That's a pretty lethargic performance. Their hearts don't seem to be in it, which isn't really surprising given how much of a transparent cash grab this "reunion" tour is. Phil didn't even pay respects to the Abbot brothers during his thanks at the beginning.

This is why I'm kinda against the reunion, because Vinnie was adamant until his death that he didn't want a reunion, as it wasn't possible without his brother. I see this but nothing as disrespect to the Abbott brothers.

Jeez, the hate around here is in the red.
I think it's great that they're out there doing this and that fans who didn't get to see the band play back in the day can have a chance to experience it, even if it doesn't include Dime and Vinnie. Charlie and Zakk are badass, and I love Rex and Phil.

Not everyone has to like it for whatever reason, obviously.
But dang.

The metal scene is hypercritical and not a little unpleasant at times these days.

I just find the rip off claims to be iffy. Nobody is going to this thinking they are getting Dimebag on guitar and Vinny on drums. Apparently the families of the Abbotts are onboard as they are going to get their cut.

If they wanna play and tour as Pantera then good on em, I couldn't give a toss, heaps of bands doing this sorta shit these days. Besides I saw them all 3 times they came to NZ while supporting their last 3 albums (the law of diminishing returns applies here).
The only thing that I would complain about is that it's a shame they're not taking the opportunity to pull out a song or 2 from Power Metal, mix up that setlist a bit.

I just love that the news outlets are straight up calling Pantera now, no more pretense of it being a celebration/tribute/whatever. I'm almost positive there will be a new Pantera album by 2024. This whole thing has been an exercise in seeing what an established brand can get away with if they can push it gradually enough.

Oh, alright then. We didn't know the Abbotts family were okay with it because they are getting their cut. This makes it completely okay to go against Vinnie's wish not to reform the band without his brother. Everything is fine.

I'd have preferred if they went the Static-X route and had Zakk and Charlie wear Spirit Halloween-esque masks of Vinnie and Dime.

Have Charlie wear a fat suit too.

He is, he has been involved in every release of the band, saying he is not an original member because there is listed another bass player who was with the band for a year that did not contribute to anything is plain stupid, if we use that logic there is no Judas Priest original members then because the ones who formed the band were Al Atkins, Bruno Stapenhill, John Perry and John Partridge

Technically with Priest Downing and Hill formed a band called Freight and then Al Atkins joined them and brought along the name of his old band. But your point still stands.

Yes, people are entitled to their fun - but the rest of us are also entitled to call this out for the soulless (and tasteless) cash grab that it is.

This isn't Pantera. This is Karaoke From Hell.

If people wanna spend hundreds of dollars to see it, that's on them. Many will go for the live experience and forgive the flaws in the performance.

This. All of this. This is why this whole charade is detrimental to the metal scene. The metal scene was always supposed to be seeking a happy medium between a starving artist and corporate whore. And now the metal scene loses all credibility because the truth is now revealed that they'll throw out their principles if a "brand" is strong enough.

To anyone who is all "fuck Vinnie, I wanted to hear these songs live," die in a fire. Form your own tribute band and go on the road.

Shit, nobody had a problem when Phil was doing his little tribute show.

Do people really worry about the metal scene's credibility? Outside of the people who would spend time posting about metal on a web forum I guess.

But I guess the scene is dead. Metal is over. Dang, I hoped to get a few more years out of it. I guess its dance music for me from here on out.
