Big kudos to you, above poster, for mentioning Hypomanie's 'A city in mono'. What a wonderful album.

Thanks! I forgot to mention Jesu as well. I was thinking of it too, slipped my mind.

I feel like there's a bunch of others that should just jump out at me, but it's hard to think of them on the spot.

Basically, many of Romanian label Valse Sinistre's (now active under the Sun & Moon moniker) releases have had that ominous, bizarre, otherworldly 'urban' sound of decay and despair, check out some of them, you'll love them.

Oh cool, thanks, I will:) I'm sure I've heard the name Valse Sinistre before, but I can't recall where. Let me check some out straight away.

Grey Waters (R.I.P) gives me that feel.

I don't know if it's the vocal style or just the fact they remind me of bands like Amesoeurs. I wish more bands had that kind of sound.

They had a good idea with mixing black metal with trip hop, but the execution is a bit sloppy. Drums are horrible imho.

I'm a bit late to the party, but you should check out Netra's last album 'Ingrats'. It has urban dread all over it ;)

Woods of Ypres' Grey Skies & Electric Light invokes that urban alienation feeling in me as well. Some songs from The Green Album do as well, but it doesn't instantly come to mind.

Apokalyptic Raids The Third Storm gives me that vibe. Maybe because of the cover art.

I don't think they've been mentioned, but the Dutch black metal band Wesenwille are very much about this sort of urban atmosphere which isn't surprising given their lyrical themes.

Hacride - Deviant Current Signal

I tried to describe this in my old, shitty review. There's little to no death metal in that album though. Like I said, it's a shitty review.

The album is good, though.
