For those unaware, Dark Descent Records just surprise released a new Undergang/Spectral Voice split yesterday. If you're a fan of either of those bands it's absolutely worth a listen. https://darkdescentrecords.bandcamp.com/album/spectral-voice-undergang-split |

Came across a great funeral doom debut... Oromet's self-titled full-length (FFO: Thergothon, Mournful Congregation, Bell Witch). https://transylvaniantapes.bandcamp.com/album/oromet One of the best things about this release is the atmospheric ambient sections that coupled with the album art really give this album a mystical, esoteric aura. In that sense I'd also compare it to Dream Unending's two full-lengths. The doom sections are massive and have this expansive, wide-open feel. The year's not halfway over but this may just be my AOTY. |

Spectral Voice recorded this a year ago, and if I remember correctly their social media said this was the only thing they recorded. Unless they secretly recorded a full-length at the same time, I would guess another SV album is still two years away; I have to imagine a Blood Incantation metal album is the priority at the moment. |

Definitely an entry for my year-end list. |

Blood Incantation were already in the studio at the beginning of April so another metal album is 100% happening, although I have no idea whether it'll be out this year. Paul's also talked about it in recent interviews and if my memory is accurate one of the things he mentioned is that there will be one long song that will take up the entire B side of the LP (or at least something that captures that epic vibe that was on Hidden History) mixed with the doomier, more atmospheric side of Starspawn. He also mentioned they're trying to integrate the Timewave Zero sound with the metal stuff, and it's the first time they'll be playing to a click in order to sync up with the Midi they're using. |

I've just discovered Primordial Serpent, a one-man black metal band from Canada. The guy is ridiculously prolific, as in eight albums and countless singles and EPs since 2020 (two albums, two singles and an EP so far this year) but I really like what I've heard so far. A very pleasant surprise is that he doesn't appear to use a drum machine, it sounds like real drumming to me, and not sloppy at all. I love the guitar riffs (and there are LOTS of them) and the vocals too. Here's the one from this year I've heard so far: https://primordialserpent.bandcamp.com/ ... l-hellfire |

Exciting release day for me New Creeping Death, 'Boundless domain'. Thrashy OSDM with great riffs, groove and tempo changes. Probably my favourite by them so far! https://creepingdeathtx.bandcamp.com/al ... ess-domain Helleruin, another one-man black metal project, this time from the Netherlands. I love everything he has done so far, charging and melodic BM with a personal touch: https://helleruin6.bandcamp.com/album/d ... -dark-arts |

Starting to dig the new Thy Catafalque. I always enjoy his more Avant-Garde/dynamic stuff (Geometria is my favourite). After the first couple listens this one seemed a little more one dimensional, but I'm starting to find the layers in it now. Always good to have a new Thy Catafalque record. |

Two new releases that came out on June 16th Thymata - Embraced By Death Throwback to 90's Scandinavian black metal, this one is fast, fierce, cold with a touch of melancholic melody in there. https://youtu.be/g4SoD9zac-o Swamp Fiend - Smoke Weed, Hail Satan Blackened Stoner Doom. Extremely catchy. I think fans of Church of Misery to Dopethrone will dig this https://youtu.be/ljEUshsjshs Hope you enjoy! |

Non Est Dues' Legacy was an album I enjoyed during my first listen through. I don't listen to "pure" black metal much so I don't really know what is expected of the genre but I do believe this album is rather nice. |

The new Protean Shield kicks all sorts of ass. Tons of great epic heavy/power metal coming out of Greece these days and you can put this one right next to the new Sacred Outcry album. |

Stray Gods - Olympus Heavy metal that reminds me of Iron Maiden a lot of the time, although I think that largely comes down to the vocalist, who often sounds like he's been taking cues from Dickinson. Gave this and their debut a run through and I think they're both great albums, so I think they're worth a spin if you're into heavy / power metal. |

Just found out that Vulture Industries have a new one out. Upon first listen it sounds a bit toned down and leaning more towards gothic and even to dark country, compared to their previous works (if my memory serves me well - it's been a while since I listened to them), but it's still amazing music, great songwriting and all around performance. |

Sworn - A Journey Told Through Fire I wasn't really familiar with Sworn until spending some time with this album. Listening to some of their older songs and comparing it to this one, I'd say that Sworn had an evolution in sound on this album. There's a progressive nature to the music on this album, with a lot of varied melodies and tempos. Songs have a break in the middle or near the end, where Sworn slows things down and then brings it all back with a new intensity to close out the songs. The solos are honestly the standout over the course of A Journey Told Through Fire. Even though they aren't overly intricate or face melting, the solos compliment the music and serve to enhance all of the already fantastic melodies. |
