American crossover thrashers Enforced will release their second full length, War Remains, on April 28 through Century Media Records. From the press release:

Quote:
Knox Colby (vocals) comments: "'War Remains' is a scathing perception of the modern crumbling world. Humanity seems imprisoned by its violent and chaotic nature; boiling over and doubling down on its own ignorance. The album contemplates and reflects upon the blight with cyclical themes rotating through the songs. It's a hammer hitting a raw nerve."

Will Wagstaff (guitars) adds: "This record ('War Remains') is furious. If you aren't in the mood to circle pit, head bang, disrupt the neighbors, etc. don't put this thing on. From the second the needle touches the record, you are in for about 32 minutes of a non-stop, no frills, indiscriminate ass kicking. Toss out the samples, ambiance, and nonsense. All we need are JCM800s and some V30s to deliver inexorable riffage."

"We didn't overthink anything," says Enforced front-man Knox Colby, describing the ethic that went into the making of the Richmond, Virginia-based quintet's third album, War Remains. "It's all very straight forward, no bells and whistles production-wise. It's almost ten minutes shorter than our last record and packs ten times more of a punch."

Blazing out of the pandemic, Enforced carved a trail throughout North America and Europe, sharing stages with the likes of Obituary, Municipal Waste and Exhumed as well as festivals like Maryland Deathfest and France's Hellfest. With that bloodied road behind them, Enforced set metallic standard with their power-of-the-riff-wreck-your-neck take on classic thrash and crossover hardcore from the same pissed-off hometown womb that had given the world the likes of GWAR and Lamb of God.

Teaming with Richmond-based producer, Ricky Olson, with mixing help from Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Kreator), the band delivered on every iota of extreme aggression they've flexed since their inception in 2016. War Remains is the sound of Enforced pushing themselves to the next level: a serrated-edge classic. "It has the intensity of 'At the Walls' (2019) but is more mature than 'Kill Grid' (2021)," Colby explains. "It has that tenacity of us live. It spills through the record. If you're a fan of really aggressive music, you're gonna love it. It's seething!"

2. The Quickening (03:19)
3. Hanged by My Hand (03:13)

5. War Remains (04:12)
6. Mercy Killing Fields (03:59)
7. Nation of Fear (02:51)

9. Starve (03:42)
10. Empire (04:03)

Ultra-Violence has been released as the first single:
Spoiler: show

Kill Grid was easily one of the best thrash metal albums of 2021 in my estimation and it's awesome to see these guys back with new music. The first single is just a straight up thrasher, I definitely dig it. There are certainly some high expectations riding on this new record but I'm sure they'll be able to deliver. The two new songs they've been playing live (War Remains and Hanged By My Hand) are on the same level as the Kill Grid material so the album as a whole should hopefully be just as good.

Great news! "Kill Grid" was easily one of my top albums of 2021, and so I am very much looking forward to this!

Loved Kill Grid so I'm very excited for this one. Tough album to beat but the first single sounds great.

The new song sounds great, and it feels even thrashier than anything from their last album. I still think they'd be better if their singer took his approach from the first album instead of this more aggressive one, but should be a good album regardless.

Oh yes. 'Kill grid' is a monster and this should be great too. I like how they've kept the same colour scheme and style for the cover, it ties them in neatly.

As far as I'm aware, Power Trip plan on continuing.

Yeah, but to me, Power Trip WAS Riley's voice and delivery and attitude.

Don't want to derail the thread though. Loved Kill Grid, and love this new track. Heck yeah.

Yeah, when it comes to no-holds-barred modern thrash that aims for the throat and isn't death/thrash and also isn't too far into the crossover realm, no one really does it better than Enforced. I caught them with Undeath back in November and it was nice to see the kiddos going apeshit for them and remembering how to do thrash pits and slamdancing in addition to all the hardcore dancing and skanking that I had expected.

Oh sick, they're already coming out with a new album? Kill Grid still gets tons of air time here, so really looking forward to it. Love their complete no-nonsense hardcore thrash. I've been preferring that to Power Trip too.
New solo sounds promising too.

The new song is awesome. It really just reinforces that the vocal style doesn't fit the band, but it seems like this album is going to have more riffs than any of their albums to date.

I think the vocal style is fine, I actually like it a lot more than what Knox was doing on At the Walls. He's clearly going for a Max Cavalera style delivery, which matches the intensity of the music.

I dont think they sound all that much like Power Trip, much more Slayery. Saw em last year and they ripped, nothing original ofc but that doesn't say all that much these days ofc. I had a funny conversation with one of the guitarists and he literally told me innovation is bad.

I think they definitely have a Slayer influence as well as influences from more extreme thrash metal bands like Demolition Hammer and Devastation. Sepultura is a big one as well vocally as well as riff wise.

Absolutely, but when Enforced started out they were a much more Power Trip influenced band, as heard on their demos/debut album. But with Kill Grid they went in a more Slayer-esque direction with a more death metal influenced sound, as opposed to the more hardcore influenced sound of their debut.

Kill Grid was my album of the year when it was released (with the leftover track Casket being my favorite track of the year), and I think the three songs released so far sounds promising. Ultra-Violence and Hanged by my Hand are nothing short of phenomenal, but Starve is a bit of a let down. It's great, but probably the weakest song they've done so far.

Well the album is out today and they've gone even further in the death/thrash direction on this one. The Slayer vibes are definitely there's but I also hear a lot of influence from more extreme thrash like Beneath the Remains era Sepultura and Demolition Hammer. They've still kept the crossover influence as far as the groove is concerned, most of the tracks shift between fast paced thrash and more groovy, midpaced sections but they do the transitions really well. Tons of riffs and plenty of solos as well, and they don't just go for the typical divebombs, there's a lot of melody and a bunch of techniques being employed including quite a bit of tapping.

That's interesting, because I feel like they've toned down the death metal influences and gone in a more straight-forward thrash approach. I'm thinking Reign in Blood, Spectrum of Death, Darkness Descends. It's brutal as hell, but not quite death metal, as opposed to Kill Grid where I feel they added more straight up death metal to their sound. Doesn't really matter tho.

I played through the album 3-4 times yesterday and a couple of times today, and it's fantastic. I'd go as far as to say it's slightly better than Kill Grid. I can't really find any weakness to the album, and Starve, which I thought was their worst song to date, works so much better when listening to the entire album and just fits perfectly into the album. The main difference between Kill Grid and War Remains to me is that the latter is catchier. It just sounds more fun in a way, which is a weird way to describe a brutal crossover thrash metal album.

Fucking killer. Better than 'Kill grid'? Not sure yet, needs more spins, but definitely on a par. Great stuff!

I think I like Kill Grid more overall, but this one is no slouch for sure. I was surprised at how much more intense and aggressive this already intense and aggressive band developed. If Kill Grid was "Slayer with elements of crossover", then War Remains is "Slayer with elements of Demolition Hammer".

On my second listen currently. I think I prefer Kill Grid to this one, but I agree with the previous poster in that this is absolutely no slouch and is still very much in the ballpark of their jump in quality after the first album.

Enforced is honestly one of my favorite modern thrash bands at this point. Just an absolute gut punch of a band and this is no different.

I'll echo that I like "Kill Grid" more (so far at least), but "War Remains" still totally rips.

I like how full throttle/hard-hitting this album is for Enforced, it just barges through and takes no prisoners.

I used to be very meh with Thrash for a bit outside of like Slayer/the German bands but I've been enjoying a lot of the recent Crossover Thrash-style that has harsh grit to them. Bands like Enforced, Inhuman Nature, High Command, Ninth Realm. Exhibition, Pest Control hit that vibe for me quite a bit.

When the guy goes into his deeper growls, it's reminiscent of Schuldiner Spiritual Healing, and when the guitarist gets into his quickest picking, it sounds like the Lethal Aggression demo (has a similar open distortion too). I always get excited about anything crossovery thrash, but this one actually hits it.
