I remember him having health issues a couple years but with how much he’d been doing lately, it seemed like he was on the upswing. This is a damn shame |

RIP Tim Aymar, this is truly a huge loss for metal. A tremendous voice with an insanely consistent discography of quality music. |

Oh man this sucks. I recall, too, Aymar having problems with health from years ago. Thought he might've pulled through a bit longer. This is terrible. |

Today Is a Very sad day for metal. Tim seemed like the kind of person who wouldn't give up easily now matter how shit life threw at him. I heard he was also homeless for a time. All the stuff he did with Pharaoh, Helios, Angband, Control and Denied, Aymargeddon are worth listening. This news took my by suprise. The man was very young. I regret not taking more vocal lessons from him on lessonface. I also had a good time listening to him talking about politics on the podcast he did during the pandemic. RIP |

This hurts. Every Pharaoh album already meant so much to me, but they feel even more precious now. I truly mean it when I say among all metal music, those works were some of the purest art I've encountered, and his emotive power was a huge part of that. There will never be another like him. |

My main association of him is the Control Denied album, on which he did a great performance on a great album. Anyone who for whatever reason haven't looked into that album should do so. https://controldenied.bandcamp.com/ R.I.P. |

Well, that fucking sucks. I always saw Pharaoh's output as frustratingly hit-or-miss, but it was never because of him--Tim Aymar always fuckin' nailed it, every single time. To steal a quote from a great show: Tim Aymar is dead, and everything is worse now. |

What little tiny, lingering slivers of hope I had of hearing Control Denied's second album have been crushed. To make matters worse, I find it hard to imagine Pharaoh continuing without Tim. He was truly one of a kind. |

Shocked to hear this. Be Gone is my favourite album ever. He is genuinely one of the most underappreciated vocalists out there. |

The Longest Night remains one of my all-time favorite USPM albums. Tragic loss; Aymar was clearly one of the best and most instantly-identifiable singers in metal. |

Sad news. I got into Pharaoh by way of following anything and everything Chris Black does. "Be Gone" is quite comfortably one of the best modern USPM records of the 2000's. In my view it's up there with "Thane to the Throne", "Evermorning", "Crest of the Martyrs". np: Pharaoh - Red Honor |

This is so sad, he was so young too, it's a shame it happened so soon. He had an incredible range and was one of the most versatile singers in power metal (or just metal in general). Rest in peace, you were one of the best singers out there, you will not be forgotten. |

Goddamn. I had my issues with Pharaoh but I actually thought the newest album was pretty decent and I always enjoyed Be Gone, and thought the guy had a fantastic voice. Was always hoping he'd do something that was a little more up my alley, but there's no denying he was the best part of every act he was involved with. Real shame. |

Trying some older Tim projects after this friend of Tim's sent me some stuff on Facebook - after I'd commented on Pharaoh's recent breaking up announcement. 313... pretty killer old power metal. Very 80s sounding but cool as fuck in that Shok Paris or early Savatage mode. Rough, vibrant, just fist pumping. Ripping guitars and Tim sounds so different young. It's kind of like the Helios album he did much more recently but it flows better and the songwriting just has more of a kick to it. Great old 80s metal swagger. Just feels good. Maybe a bit samey, but oh well. Triple X... never would've tried this based on the name, the cover or any of it, but it's fun, hard rocking sleaze. Aymar's gritty howls add some metal heft and the guitars are slick and wouldn't have been out of place on the more commercial side of 80s metal back then. I feel like this band was angling to get big with these choruses and whatnot. Didn't happen. But they sound pro and Tim just has a shitload of conviction. Psycho Scream - can't find this anywhere so I'm posting a download. Blistering power prog for the mavens of that... this shit just rules and has that pure dense, creative prog styling to the songwriting. Tim in really fine form. Cool as fuck guitar riffs and leads just building and climbing on top of each other. |

As a side note, I was surprised to learn that the drummer of this band was Steve Moore aka The Mad Drummer, the drummer from the infamous ”this drummer is at the wrong gig” meme video. Tim Aymar is the degree of separation between old school 80s death metal and modern meme culture. |

I did see that. I'd never heard of that meme or anything I guess. Psycho Scream is definitely right up the alleys of many here and it's crazy you just can't fucking find that anywhere except some Discogs collectors or something. |

As sad as it is to see, it feels like they made the right call. Their body of work is one of the best in the genre. I decided to marathon Tim’s old projects today and there’s some interesting stuff to it. I swear some of those 313 songs aren’t too far off from what a band like Traveler is doing today, especially since Tim and Jean-Paul have fairly similar grit to their ranges. |

Yeah, there's no Pharaoh without Tim Aymar. Even if his legacy was "only" Control Denied and Pharaoh, it would be an incredibly powerful one. But there's more, and it all seems to be excellent. Just a one of a kind singer. |

Maybe someday that band and the guy's voice will click for me. I can hear what you mean on paper but it just isn't the same at all for me in the actual practice of listening to either's work. But yeah between 313 sounding like an old school Riot/Stormwitch/etc kind of band and Psycho Scream's prog he sure did have his fingers in a lot of various sub niches back then. Productive guy. Hard worker apparently. And yes Pharaoh absolutely was justified in ending given this. A lot of bands you can't replace key members, and Matt Johnsen has said in the past, even before Tim passed, that he'd end the band if any of them died or even just left the band, and they all agreed. I think there's integrity to that, and more bands should just leave their careers as definite statements if things change too much. I do hope we get another band from Johnsen though - that guy is a talent and way too young to never have any other projects, should he wish to... a true musical talent as well as a metal freak who knows his shit. |
