I finally got around to give it a spin, and yes this album is outstanding! It might be the best album I've heard in a decade or so, I'm not exaggerating. I consider myself a big fan of Dødheimsgard, I own all their albums and listen to them often, but I don't think any of them are 10/10 albums, they have some weak points, but I haven't seen one yet with Black Medium Current. It feels very mature this time. I would still call it experimental and avant-garde, and people who like the weird side of Dødheimsgard will find plenty here, but it's definitely more stripped down and bare bones than anything that came before. What surprised me is how cinematic some of these passages are, the midpoint of Tankespinnerens smerte comes to mind. Victonik has a great sense of melody and timing, and this feels very personal and epic at the same time. The only thing that is missing is Aldrahn's vocals. He is not my favourite vocalist, but his voice is so characteristic and instantly recognizable on a Dødheimsgard album. Victonik does a great job tho, doing both clean and harsh vocals with great effect. |

I'm also really digging this album a lot. I've been into th band for quite a while now (since around the Satanic Art EP times I guess) and yeah, they take quite a while to put out new music, but that eight years or so always feels justified when you have the experience of listening. This seems like a bit more of a guitar album than the last one, which I like. i do miss Aldrahn's distinctive vocals, but Vikotnik is doing some interesting stuff here and is very much running all aspects of the Dodheimsgard showa t this point. Some truly majestic sounds, really great ambience, unpredictability. I've only listened to it three times so far and it feels very fresh and exciting, and I'm sure I'll be playing it lots more in the coming years. |

This album is great. Never in a million years would I have ever expected to like something described as "Avant-Garde black metal", but here we are. "It Does Not Follow" is so perfectly placed right after whatever the fuck "Interstellar Nexus" is. What "disgusting endeavor" is this guy talking about? I can't even begin to imagine. But the beauty of the intro to "It Does Not Follow" washes all of that away. |

I finally got around to this whole record the other day while doing some admin work, and god damn - what a fucking great album. Will definitely be coming back to it and getting to know it better. Abyss Perihelion Transit also works way better in the context of the full album as opposed to a standalone song, in my opinion. Lots of very well written, catchy moments, great playing all around and the zany twists and turns were odd as fuck, but strangely welcome. |

Still album of the year for me. Tremendous, singular, original stuff - nothing else like it. Also the best I have heard from this band so far too. |
