Virgin Steele will release a new called album The Passion Of Dionysus June 30th. 1. The Gethsemane Effect 07:08 2. You'll Never See The Sun Again 09:20 3. A Song Of Possession 5:51 4. The Ritual Of Descent 12:41 5. Spiritual Warfare 7:50 6. Black Earth & Blood 2:24 7. The Passion Of Dionysus 8:09 8. To Bind & Kill A God 8:18 9. Unio Mystica 9:15 10. I Will Fear No Man For I Am A God 8:46 David DeFeis claims this new album will be a throwback to the epic/barbaric/Marriage/Invictus/Atreus-styled albums, but as long as we're talking about auto tuned vocals/whispered vocals / shitty drums, lack of Pursino in the guitar department, I'm sure this will be horrible. |

I'm interested if only because I want to see/hear how much of a trainwreck this will be. Who knows, maybe DeFeis will surprise all of us and actually release something listenable (probably not). |

I can only dream this will be a return to form. Can't believe how he gave us such classics back in the day. Now he's given us some bad shit. Prove us wrong DeFeis! |

Got to admit that 'Spiritual Warfare' is a cool title, but then again, 'I Will Fear No Man For I Am A God' is not. ![]() My guess is that this will end up sounding like TBLB - just with more guitars worse vocal lines. There'll be 3 singles out before the album's out and I'm sure that we'll get to hear the first one soon. |

"I Will Fear No Man..." is an incredibly badass title. He just always has a way of making them sound epic, but then the music for the past 10+ years has been like first pass demo shit. |

the last few albums were not programmed drums fyi, its mostly DeFeis on an electronic kit. Visions and Bacchanalia were Gilchriest on an electronic kit. |

I'm with colin, I foresee something closer to Black Light Bacchanalia. And I like that album even if it's a bit of a moody slog at times. |

I don't like the cover. Dave DeFeis is a very talented man but has not been able to match the quality of the The Marriage of Heaven and Hell albums. There is something foul about this band after The House of Atreus. |

Way to outDeMaio Joey DeMaio! Well it's basically a David DeFeis solo project at this point. There's even no lines to read between, he explicitly states that in this release, referring to himself. I read the interviewer is also fake and everything; press releases, questions about the band, artwork is all solely orchestrated by him. I figure so is the production and that's why all the new music sucks - he's calling all the shots. This new album is going to suck just like all the recent ones. |

DeFeis always wrote the majority of the music though, from what I can tell. I reckon Pursino contributed riffs but that DeFeis was the one constructing them into songs. |

Kabooom wrote: I just want to hear DeFeis's classic ''Uooooooooo!'' and ''Iyaaaaaaaaa!'' on competently written and executed songs. Oh please no! He can't cut it anymore with the "Uoooooooo". Persephone from the last album was competently written and then ruined by shitty vocals. He sounds good these days only when he's not doing any of that theatrical bullshit, like on this ballad (which is also a bit much because dude forgot how to edit) Chaosmonger wrote: DeFeis always wrote the majority of the music though, from what I can tell. I reckon Pursino contributed riffs but that DeFeis was the one constructing them into songs. Pursino doing songwriting with riff-heavy songs resulted in some of their best material historically like Blood Of The Saints and Twilight of The Gods. It's a solo DeFeis show now with a lot of emphasis on keys and weird vocalizations. |

I asked someone who's heard the new record about this. He says that it sounds like the last two albums and is full of fake high pitched vocals and prominent keys. I'm sure we're in for something Greek, alright... a Greek tragedy that is!

I squealed like a teenager when I saw the announcement. I love Virgin Steele, especially the new shitty stuff. It's so fascinating. I hope he does another YouTube Documentary to go along with it. If you haven't seen those, gran a six-pack and throw one on. It's a WILD night. |

Lol, I’m ready for this. At the very least it’ll be a comedic train wreck that will inspire nose squirted liquid laughter. Do love the classic early output of the band though! |

Virgin Steele is one of my favorite bands and ascended to that status very quickly when I discovered them right at the end of 2018, so I wish I could be excited about the first release of new material that has occurred since then, but I know it would be foolish to be optimistic. Maybe the tight and organized track list compared with the potpourri of whatever was going on across Seven Devil's Moonshine at least shows a certain level of focus? No covers or orchestral versions of old songs or weird interludes and screwing around, just new stuff. Come on David, surprise us and give us something on the level of The Black Light Bacchanalia. |

Problem is that even if the tunes themselves will be good (which I doubt in the first place), DeFeis is capable of ruining about every decent moment with his auto tuned whispering and squeals. Could you imagine the band's classic songs with modern DeFeis on vocals?

Literally all it would take for another passable album would be for him to quit the ridiculous noises he makes and just sing some OK vocal lines again. Lots of their stuff since 2010 or so has felt so overdone with weird, cluttered parts and odd sounds that do not work. It seems like he's really trying to be creative which is cool... it just doesn't really work as a listening experience. |

I'm going to check this out as a Virgin Steele fan, but not expecting any sort of deviation from the prolonged trainwreck which has been going on for over a decade now. It really sucks, too, because the ideas behind the music DeFeis makes are usually pretty good. |

VoE and TBLB are both recommended in full, but for (relatively) heavier tracks: Immortal I Stand (The Birth of Adam) Black Light on Black Childslayer By the Hammer of Zeus (and the Wrecking Ball of Thor) The Bread of Wickedness Necropolis (He Answers Them with Death) Most of the other songs on those albums have significant soft sections or are full ballads, but they're still good. And yeah Lucifer's Hammer has a great main riff, I can look past the vocals and auto tune and just not care. |

Green Dusk Blues and Feral at the very least are fantastic. I keep gravitating back to those and haven't given the rest of Ghost Harvest 1 too much of a shake. Seven Dead Within and Psychic Slaughter a little bit but those don't do too much for me. |
