New Horrendous album coming out August 18th.

Image

Title track has been released, which can be heard on their Bandcamp page and on YouTube. Sounds really good and Horrendous haven't lost their mojo after such a long gap.

Is this the Death (band)-worship band? If so, I loved their previous one very much.

My bad. It's not them.

Ecdysis is one of my favorite death metal albums of all time, but none of their other records have really grabbed me. There's some cool stuff in this song, but there's definitely a bit of djent influence which is a bit djarring.

On point. I should catch up with their other ones sometime but this actually sounds kinda startling and fresh. Digging it.

Wasn't as much into this single as I am into their earlier stuff, especially Anareta, but I'm curious to hear what they've been cooking up over the past few years. I'm digging the cover art, too.

same here - though all their albums are at least good, the rest of them really feel shaded by ecdysis. looking forward to this anyway - probably not gonna check out any singles before hearing the full thing

this big sounds a bit djisheartening though

There was something to the slower, pounding moments from Ecdysis they didn't do again - "The Stranger" is an incredibly iconic moment for them. But I think all their last three are pretty equal and if anything they only got tighter and more confident every time.

Maybe I need to listen to it again but I didn't really hear any "djent" in this, the guitars reminded me more of Voivod than anything else.

Love everything they've done and I am looking forward to the full release, super underrated band IMO

Not into the band's previous output to be honest, but goddamn do I love their cover art, this one included. I'll probably give it a fair try solely due to that.

They are definitely new I'll agree but they just kinda play their music it's like they are like the older bands a whole melting pot of influence

I'm assuming you know the difference between rehash and new there's a definite difference

Song is really good. Anareta is lowkey one of my favorite "melodic" death metal albums of the last couple of years (I'm aware it's not a melodeath album, I just mean death metal that explicitly features a more melodic style than most). I really appreciate the way they construct their music and often weave really gorgeous melodies into their songs. Really, really good band.

Also I have no idea how anybody heard djent in this.

Wow. This is one stunning track, great leads and cool vocal variety. Kind of feels like a non-instrumental version of Voice of the Soul.

Every single released from this album has been better than the last. Very hyped to hear the full thing in a month.

I dunno. People flip out over this band, but they haven't really done anything for me in the past. Single sounds cool though. I'll check this out.

This is probably my favorite single out of the three. I personally think Horrendous are at their best when they draw from the melodic side of their sound.

Super stoked for this one!

After my first listen I can safely say this is going to end up in my top 3 albums this year. Lots of twists and turns, really engaging songwriting, and probably the best performances we've heard from Horrendous, the bass and guitar leads in particular stand out. IMO it's much better than Idol and is up there with Anareta if I had to rank their LPs.

I loved their first album, one of the best albums of the new wave of OSDM that happened around the 2010s. I will check this new one, it's been a while since I've listened to them.

It's too early to judge after one listen, but I have a suspicion that their gradual change of style is not one I like, to be honest. I wasn't so keen on their previous one either, and this keeps moving away from what I liked about them. Not that I dislike progressive leanings - on the contrary, all top 3 albums from this year for me do have that (Phlebotomized, Henget, Enslaved), but somehow I feel Horrendous were better as slightly progressive/technical death metal band than they are a progressive metal band with some death metal moments.

I will listen to this on Friday. I have heard good things about this band/album, and I was previously unaware of them. I've been checking out some of their stuff in the meantime, and I like some of it, but I don't quite get the hype thus far. I've listened to their first two albums only though, so maybe the hyped stuff is later on?

after a few listens i'm sad to say this isn't grabbing me like these guys used to - they've moved further away from the edge of sanity-esque melodicism that they did so well, and more towards a meshuggahy mathy rhythmic stop-start thing that gets really annoying when over-used (ie. used for more than 5 seconds)

Going to take some time to sink in, but this is really impressive. Somehow the use of melody and technicality sounds even more expansive than their previous ones. Visceral angry energy to it too.

I don't hear any Meshuggah-isms what so ever, if anything this is how I imagine Tribulation would've sounded like if they'd continued down the path of their second album instead of turning into spooky goths.

I've only listened to it a handful of times but I already like it as much as any of the previous three and I need to shout out perfect production and mixing. In an era of painful brickwalling it's a revelation to hear a dynamic death metal album that only sounds better the louder you crank it up.

Worst I can say on first listen is a few of these guitar riffs they do are sounding familiar, but if I made that a serious critique, I wouldn't really be able to listen to metal as a whole anymore.

I barely know any Meshuggah but this sounded very melodic and in your face to me. Very tech-y too, but it didn't dilute the melodicism.

Absolutely loving this album so far, definitely ordering it at the first of the month. I honestly enjoy the progression that this band has undertook over time, I prefer this direction over them just releasing The Chills four more times (love that album too though).

Second play. These lead guitars are stunning - fluid, atmospheric. Bass is really good too. I love that they keep finding small ways to tweak the sound. This one keeps the jagged technicality of the previous few but seems more elaborate, seems like they tried to just let themselves play and vibe a little more.

Killer album, through and through. Horrendous is yet to disappoint.

Like all recent Horrendous records, this has a huge diversity of ideas, but what strikes me the most is the sheer range of vocal deliveries this time, all executed extremely well.

I'm going to need some time for it to grow on me but the initial listen is really positive. It is impressive that people are still coming up with so many interesting ideas and ways to push death metal in different directions.

maybe i'm thinking of mastodon or something - anyway, those are bands i know very little of, so the reference is probably off - the djenty stuff is just what comes to mind from the sort of thing i was trying to explain, but since it's a thing i don't like, i'm obviously not very familiar with music that utilizes it a lot

tbh i'm extremely confused how seemingly more than one person heard anything even remotely similar to djent, meshuggah or mastodon in this album. this is super melodic tech/thrash with some prog/death as well

when i think of prog metal that would be the literal opposite of djent, horrendous is pretty close to what i'd come up with. sounds more like death if anything

Some of their guitars sound kind of angular and jagged in a way, but they always break it up with these furious, colorful melodic swathes. Never really sounds like a machine makes it or anything to me anyway.
