Technical grindcore act Gridlink have announced a new album, Coronet Juniper:

The title track has been released as a single:

Beyond hyped for this, Longhena is one of my favorite albums of all time. Based on the released song, the whole band sounds as tight as ever. It's funny, I feel like Jon Chang has come out of grindcore "retirement" multiple times by now. Longhena was supposed to be the end of Gridlink, and then that No One Knows What the Dead Think album was supposed to be his last grind record I think. But based on pretty much everything he's been involved with the new album's going to rule.

Love the songwriting here, sounds exactly like I hoped it would. Pretty decent length for a grind album too, doesn't look like it will be very long.

Yes! Instant buy for me.

Single kicks ass too. There aren't a lot of pure grindcore bands left these days that do it right. My only complaint is that the bass should be grindier and much louder in the mix.

Love the music. Not the vocals, unfortunately.
For the same reason I didn't buy Longhena.
I hope the guitarist has or will make some of this music with a lower pitched vocalist. I'd like to know!

I’ll pick this one up. I was a huge Discordance Axis fan, but did not really get too into Gridlink as deeply.

As was mentioned, I miss Jon’s low grunts. Gridlink’s riffs sound sort of happy where DA’s just sounded strange and disjointed. Gridlink’s drummer also does double bass blasting which I find annoying to listen to. But it’s still overall very good.

Agreed that Gridlink sounds goofy happy, and also was a huge fan of Discordance Axis. Gridlink's aesthetic also rubs me the wrong way. I'm still going to give this a chance though, because the potential is definitely there.

Takafumi Matsubara has released his own full-length and an EP with guest vocalists that you might be interested in then.

^ I own Takafumi Matsubara's 'Strange, Beautiful and Fast' album and, yes, it kicks ass. Definitely worth picking up for any grind fan.

Also, I'll add to my earlier comment & agree with this:

And, in the way of 'pure' grindcore, there isn't much out there that tops 'The Inalienable Dreamless.'

Actually, all of DA's discography is pretty solid, albeit way more raw, primitive and low-fi than their pinnacle & swansong, 'The Inalienable Dreamless.'

Hmm, it's a bit more melodic than I had hoped for.

I’d go as far to say that it sounds half life some pop punk/metalcore type band that would play Warped Tour meets grind. Hopefully the other tracks aren’t going for this.

Bout time they made a comeback.
I dig the songs I've heard thus far

The full album is now streaming on Metal Injection:

I've only had one full listen but as expected, it kicks ass. IMO it doesn't match the heights of Longhena but it's still some top-notch grind. Will definitely need more listens to sink in though.

Did Guantanamo Bay get their own stream or did they have to use the Metal Injection one too?
