Release date finally announced and first single:

As totally expected, this sounds fucking killer. Full speed ahead, 'Plague Angel'-type viciousness. Bring it on! :hyper:

I prefer the albums released from 2003 to 2007, 20/19/16 years later they still haven't been surpassed.

Not a huge fan of these guys but I thought it was curious they hadn't released an album in a while. Usually they do one every 3 years or so (and it used to be more frequently 20-ish years ago).

Looking forward to this. I love the Mortuus era of Marduk, even if there are a couple of albums I rarely go back to. I'll always check out new Marduk but won't comment further until I've heard the whole album. I find that stuff made by Mortuus often works best as a while and not a single songs here and there.

Wow, the song is so vicious it officially resurrected Baudelaire and all those danse macabre skelletons from the 9th circle of hell. I have to revisit pre-Warmwood albums to see if I still dislike them, it's been more than 10 years since we last spoke.

song rips. production seems a bit muffled/low on treble to me but whatever. more mortuusduk is always fine here.

Those horns are savage. This is overall pretty fucking sick, which is cool because they kind of lost me after Serpent Sermon.

Yeah it has been quite a wait. Then again though, Morgan's written a shitload of music over the years to the point where I imagine it can be challenging as hell to come up with new fresh ideas. Marduk as a band is plenty huge and if they put out any new music, people will know within minutes so I don't think they need to worry about losing momentum at this point. I think if they want to take a bit of extra time to really craft a solid album, it would do them well.

I love Marduk- I have every full-length they've ever put out except 'La grande danse macabre'... but I think I'd like a little more from them at this point. Or, not "more"- Different. A little variation, a bit more experimentation. They've done it before. And, with this, I can't deny the passion and intensity is there and they sound great, but I'd really like to hear them take a few more chances and not play it so safe. Same way I feel about Cannibal Corpse. C'mon, mix it up a bit! Roll the dice. We know you can do this - it's the exact same thing you've been doing... And yes, you do it magnificently, but come on, surprise me a bit!

At the Gates and Napalm Death are good examples of what I'm talking about- both have been able to experiment a bit without compromising themselves in any way. 'The Nightmare of Being' and 'Throes of Joy...' are killer, and ND's been mixing it up at least since Utilitarian. It just brings some nice variety to a band's catalog, you know?

Like the sirens in 'Werwolf' or the horns in this song are great (though they could've gone further with it... like ground the song to a halt and played with those horns a bit before blasting off again. I mean, Rom 5:12's "experimental" in a good way, and Mortuus always goes big & bold with his Funeral Mist work, so I'm just saying, it'd be nice, in my mind, if they played with the dynamics and those kind of oddball elements a bit more (again) within their albums. And maybe they have here, I'm going strictly off of this one song, so they could prove me wrong... but this here sounds like it would fit right snug alongside anything off of the last 3 or 4. 'Wormwood' has great dynamics so, idk, I'll definitely check this out, but what I'd really love to hear from them at this point is something that makes me go, "WTF? Is this... ? Yeah, it's Marduk alright, but... holy shit, this is kinda... different."

I expect there will be some slower, creepier cuts on there that enable Mortuus to flex his muscles a bit. And re 'Le grande...', I always had it pegged as my least favourite album until I went back and relistened to it a while ago, and it totally won me over. There are some great hidden gems on there.

Got around to checking out the single. Pretty decent as far as modern Marduk goes. Am interested in seeing how the rest of the album plays out.

Was wondering when they'd switch from the WWII themes back to the religious themes, sounding great so far, hoping they come to Canada again.

Sounds like Devo has worked his magic on the bass sound again, one of my favourite elements of newer Marduk

I really hope so. I think Mortuus-era-Marduk is at their best when they do slow or mid-tempo stuff.

Agreed. Without that, dynamics are compromised, and it just becomes a one-dimensional blur.

Second single, 'Shovel beats sceptre':

Yep, slower and creepier track, probably placed to break up the blasting. Suits me

This one is excellent! This is what I want from Marduk. I'd rather have the majority of the album being slow and mid-tempo and only a few faster songs to break it up.

Not bad. Sounds more like a Funeral Mist album without the painfully long songs that go nowhere. Coffin Carol is great. Much more melodic than I was expecting. Definitely better than all the mediocre stuff they've been recording since Rom 5:12.

First full listen, I like it.
I had a strange relationship with 'Viktoria' when it first came out, I remember thinking it was pretty flat and uninspired the first couple of times I listened to it, but I found myself continually drawn back to it and it eventually grew on me in a big way.
This new one has gone down much better straight away, probably because it does immediately seem quite different, more melodic as the previous poster said. I'll see how it goes with successive listens. Closer 'As we are' stood out the most with what must be the most melodic guitar work ever in the band's career (or at least since 'Those of the unlight').

it’s good. production sounds weirdly compressed/muffled. devo’s bass playing really stands out. ending an album about death with a song featuring lg petrov telling you that you also will die is a nice touch. frontschwein still best mortuus-era marduk for me tho tbh

Just gave the album a listen and it's blazing. Marduk can be slightly one-note for me, but their ferocity on this album can't be denied. It's very solid.

Excellent album, their best since Rom 5:12 (and I really enjoyed everything since then, except maybe Wormwood).

I've heard the album in full about three times. To early for me to make a clear judgment but the first impressions are good. Some excellent stuff in there. I love how they do a wink in the riff that goes from song 1 to song 2 where the chord progression is taken from the song in the sample of one of the Funeral Mist albums (I believe it's from a funeral scene in a film). As usual I like the mid tempo stuff best and there are some of that here. It's one of those albums where I want to listen more to see if it grows. That is usually a good thing.

Got the LP yesterday, my brother pointed out that the cover actually says "Mr. Duk". Sounds like a Swedish cleaning product.

I think is pretty good but only had the chance to listen 2 times. Hopefully it holds up in the long run.

That's not strange considering Mortuus wrote everything on Memento Mori.

The album is awesome as fuck but I wonder why Morgan let someone else take over the reins on his baby. Maybe he got writer's block or something?

I'm on my first full listen and this is fantastic, my immediate gut reaction is best since at least Serpent Sermon (I really didn't like Frontschwein or Viktoria all that much).

I've always felt that the Mortuus era in Marduk was the better part, no offense to Legion admirers, but this guy is really AWESOME. This album caught me at the very first listen. Relentless, as always with Marduk but the wall of sound is balanced and the rhythmic section excels. And the vocals are the same known quality of Made by Mortuus trademark. Very good album.

The more I listen to it the more I notice the slightly strange, compressed production that a previous poster mentioned. It still doesn't really detract from my opinion that this is a fantastic album though, and I do really love that bass sound.

Yeah, this doesn't feel like Marduk anymore. It's fine by me, much better than previous releases and also much more focused than Funeral Mist so we got the best of both.

Can't unsee. This is now a Mr. Duk album, there's no doubt about it.

No complaints from me. I like Mortuus stuff way more than Morgans anyway.

Like the album but find the production a bit muted, but that might just be me.
