Played both the last Psychotic Waltz and Arch Matheos albums in the car yesterday. Both so fucking good... PW just makes every note sound so thunderous and meaningful. Arch Matheos is fascinating because it sounds like they're working with the building blocks of rock and metal music to just make something like a whole new debut album - yet you can hear the decades of experience.

Gorguts - Colored Sands (12 years). Their best album if you ask me.

Can't argue with that. This album was such a pleasant surprise for me. Not a weak song anywhere.

And now it's been 10 years since the last Gorguts album and 7 years since the last time they released new music (Pleiades' Dust EP from 2016).

I love to see this album mentioned, just like you I consider it one of the best black metal albums I've ever heard, unique and well crafted to the core. If he ever delights us again with an album (I doubt he will) it will be worth the wait as well.

He did mention that touring was a money sink that didn’t work out the way he intended, but Kriss is unpredictable, so I keep a small hope that one day he’ll simply pop out with a new album.

Absolutely agree. I had actually started to wonder if that album was ever going to come out, but thank goodness the band finally figured out how to make it happen. I still say they should have just released the complete trilogy in one shot in 2007 - but I guess The End Records and/or the band wanted to milk every dollar they could to recoup those expensive recording sessions.

From what I understand, the band’s intention was to release the entire trilogy at once. The label disagreed, and this is what brought on the dispute that ended with Pianissimo shelved for the 10-year duration of the publishing rights contract.

I’m kinda hoping that, rather than having given up on making music, Turisas has happened to end up in a similar situation and once the contracts expire we might hear something again from them.

Sleep - The Sciences (15 years). I really lived this one too and I think it may be Sleeps best album.

Odz Manouk - Bosoragazan/Tzurr (13 years). Everything I was hoping for, he surpassed the first album by far.

How could I forget The Sciences? It was such a strong return, totally killer album.

Wasn’t even aware Odz Manouk came back to life, I’ve got a friend that’s going to be psyched to hear the news.

Suffocation's "Souls To Deny" came a great deal after the Despise the Sun Ep, but it was more than worth the wait, the return of Mike Smith was much loved and that IMO is the strongest album of theirs since they reunited, and can stand toe to toe with the original 3 albums.

Morbid Angel both Illud and Kingdoms. I dare say they were both worth it, I absolutely loved Kingdoms and it was exactly what i was looking for from them so that was easily worth the wait, Illud on the other hand was mostly a disaster, but I feel like Nevermore, Blades for Baal, and Existo Vulgore were atleast passable as B Sides to Domination so I was glad they were made.

Exhumed All Guts No Glory - Hell yes, the world needed more Exhumed and this was a nice return to roots album.

Immortal Disfigurement - Not sure when this album is coming but its been a long tedious wait but both singles that have been released have easily lived up to the hype and i'm anxiously awaiting the album release.

I guess I'll throw Satanic Warmaster's "Aamongandr" here, given the 8-year gap between that and Fimbulwinter. Fimbulwinter was okay, but never really impressed me as much as some of his other stuff. I have a feeling Aamongandr will hold up as well as the first three albums.

Agreed, great album. I love 'Fimbulwinter' too and all his other records, I don't think there is a single weak link.
I also agree with pretty much everything everyone has said so far. 'Tempo of the damned' might not be the absolute best Exodus album but it's definitely up there.

Immolation - Here In After

The nearly five year wait from the debut album really jarred me. I loved Dawn Of Possession and was very eager for a follow up. The Stepping On Angels Before Dawn compilation was just old tracks, some of which I had, and getting a copy of that CD in the US at the time was a real pain in the ass. Immolation missed out on releasing a follow up during the peak of death metal’s commercial popularity. But the wait was definitely worth it.
