This is a continuation of the excellent Vera Cruz album. I am glad he is making metal similar to what he did with Angra.

Here's the tracklisting and album art.

Image

1. Quetzalcóatl
2. Señores del mar
3. Sacrificio
4. Caparazón vacío
5. Tenochtitlán
6. Eldorado
7. Q'EQU'M
8. Reino de los huesos
9. De repente
10. Alas de luz
11. En dolor

I liked the last album so looking forward to this. Still waiting for a single to be released. He announced this 5 months ago and still no single?

This came out 4 days early! Lots of moments that remind me of classic Angra, both Falaschi and Matos.

It really didn't need that extended solo section at the start, that's for sure. Also, I can't say Edu's voice does it for me at all anymore. His high notes just don't have any power, it honestly ruins the song for me. I haven't listened to any of his post-Angra material more than briefly because of it.

His upper register has been shot for almost twenty years now; acid reflux and the extensive touring to promote Temple of Shadows blew it halfway to hell. I've been to a few concerts by him since then (including his last years in Angra, and Almah), and nowadays he's basically a studio singer. The really high stuff (like the chorus of "Land Ahoy", from Vera Cruz) is pre-recorded and given a little "heft" by two excellent backing singers he brings on tour. Think James Labrie with a penchant for the grandiose.

That being said, I respect the guy for his persistence and for playing music this crazy. Despite his vocal shortcomings, he knows what his fans want, and delivers it.
