Are there albums that are quite middling, but because of nostalgia, they have effectively became immune to criticisms?

I always thought that Dissection should have clean vocals was a real goofy opinion, I can see how it's softer than others, but its not enough to say it belongs with the other stuff that's not extreme, they still can send a chill down the spine just cuz of it's tone it's definitely not sugary bullshit most of the time

Hell id say slaughter of the soul and in flames is definitely less extreme metal than fuckin dissection, melodeth is way wimpier than meloblack from what I've heard of each genre, which isn't very much in either but I doubt I'm wrong in general

Sure, I guess I can see why the harsh vocals work, not like I am trying to say it makes no sense or anything. The music just isn't weird enough for my personal tastes.

I was never a fan of much melodeath for those same reasons either, the harsh vocals.

Dissection just isn't mean or hard enough for me. Rather hear something with clean singing if I want something that melodic. Mayhem is way more twisted and interesting - give me that any day.

I tried stuff like Revenge, Blasphemy, or Conqueror but I always felt they are more noisy than heavy, more in the realm of something like grindcore than metal. Dissection is another thing, they play a very elegant form of black metal, I like that.

From the early inner circle bands, I think that Emperor is a much more interesting band than Mayhem, at least for me.

I'm a devotee for really old, primal BM like before it was even a defined genre... the Celtic Frost kind of thing. Cauldron Black Ram and Decayed have gotten a lot of plays from me this summer.

There might be some moods where I'd be down for that elegant melodic extreme style. I dunno. Never say never.

All the Tom G. Warrior bands are perfect, Celtic Frost is such an amazing classic. Yeah, I also love those bands, early Venom, Bathory, and Sarcofafo are all pretty cool.

I get the critique of dissection a little better now, yeah I can agree they're a little bare in terms of style, it's just straight up one thing, I just think theyre definitely a quality band.

Too bad the SanPeron guy doesn't like Blasphemy, I just fucking love those guys for some reason, it's just total fucking balls out fucking metal I think they rule and totally love their style of black metal, never got into the war metal after them but what I love about blasphemy is they're still metal at their root, it's still traceable and it always seems like bands that expand on older forms of extreme metal always seem to take away that metal base out imo and just reduce things to a checklist of what it has to be as opposed to the older bands who just took what they liked and played a form that came out different because they themselves were weird and different, it gives stuff more personality imo

Is not that I don't like bestial war metal, but as I said to you the other day, it's an acquired taste, same as BDM. I like extreme music, maybe I should give war metal another chance, but I like a little groove in my music, you know that kind of heavy bass, drop kick, down-tuned sound, that black metal rarely has, it's a lot more chaotic and noisy rather than heavy.

I've gotten more into groove shit lately as well, we were talking about brutal DM I downloaded that one album you were talking about but haven't checked it out yet,

It's really hard to find black metal that is like that tho I heard this album by a band called sarcophagus today and I noticed it had a little bit of not groove but idk kinda like mid paced stuff idk hard to explain I detected a lot of different styles of riffs on their even more almost voivod stuff and even later Immolation tho it's from way back in 1996.

Its called for we who are consumed by the darkness and I think it's got the dude from Judas Iscariot, I decided to check it out cuz they're from DeKalb Illinois and up until a couple days ago I was working about 20 minutes north of there so I checked it out and was actually surprised I dug it as much as I did it's not very second rate or anything

Idk I think you should check it out I'm listening rn I think it's pretty good actually, also the first absu Barathrum is kinda like that too, it's kinda really dark death metal but the black metal feeling is way too pronounced to not call it black

Weirdly enough I seem to be more receptive to usbm from the past than the European stuff

Mostly cuz I think this country is far colder and evil than those places, this place is the opposite of love I think the United States is the perfect breeding ground for evil and oppressive music because it's an evil and oppressive place
