New album, Stone, will be released on September 15th. First US tour dates have already been announced and we already have two singles out ("Last Word") and a 3 songs compilation single (Shine). Artwork is impressive as always.

Quote: An important through line in Baroness is we don’t like to repeat ourselves. It’s all about the willingness to take risks. When I was younger, the whole point of music was to be different, not to do the same thing, and not to listen to parents or play by the rules. That’s kind of goofy, but in practice, it works. It’s really sort of terrifying to be at the sixth record in your career and think that you’ll have to keep up with your history rather than continually invent. So, we doubled down on continuously inventing to see where it takes us. I think this record is a good reflection of that. STONE is a lot more alive, more direct. https://www.brooklynvegan.com/baroness-announce-new-album-stone-tour-share-last-word/ They lost me after Blue Record but maybe I should revisit Cold & Grey before listening the whole new album. I enjoyed "Shine", but "Beneath the Rose" and "Last Word" left me a bit cold. As it happens with Mastodon, I wish they had kept more of their original sludge sound instead of drifting towards prog rock. |

I really liked this band around 2012, I thought they had a bus accident and stopped playing for a while. I listened to Blue and Red a lot when I was younger, hope this new stuff is great too. |

The EPS and Red were great but everything after that was bad. They always sound bad, their production choices are always poor. |

I'm surprised there wasn't already a thread for this one. I have loved all of the pre-release singles and I'm looking forward to the full thing for sure. I've never been a huge fan of this band but have gotten back into them a bit this year so the timing works out. |

Their only production job that didn't quite hit the mark at points was Gold & Grey - but it didn't stop me from enjoying the album. Purple's production was also decried by some as being a bit brickwalled, but I think it perfectly matches the lush and triumphic feel of the album. The production choices seem to care more about concept than conventionally "sounding good". The new songs rock. |

The last time I saw Baroness live Baizley was playing a double-neck guitar but didn't even touch the second neck. I think that's a perfect metaphor for their last few albums. |

Baroness not naming an album after a color feels so wrong to me. |

They should release a black album lol. |

A bit underwhelming, probably close to an average album. I think they blew their load a little too early, as I think all of the singles remain my favorite tracks on this. |

I lost track of Baroness a long time ago. The album is alright but I don't think it's something I'll revisit much. |

I liked bits of Yellow & Green but haven't really been all in since Blue. The biggest issue for me, besides the production on the last couple of albums, has been Sebastian's drumming. He's too busy and overplays nearly everything and never lets the songs fall into the groove they deserve. I've seen people compare him to Brann Dailor from Mastodon and I can see where they're coming from but even at his most frenetic Dailor always plays what the song needs but Sebastian hardly ever does. He's a capable drummer but not a very clever one. They should get someone more straight forward who knows how to swing. |

Used to love them up until Blue, but nothing afterwards did much for me. It's not that I find it all band, just a bit boring. I tried Last Word and sadly, I did not make it to the half-mark. Might check the rest of the album to see if it's a bit better but I don't have much hopes. |

It ain't Purple but it's a pretty good album. I like the first half more with "Beneath the Rose/Choir/The Dirge", which flow together, as the highlight. The acoustic closer "Bloom" is beautiful as well. |

Aside from the Red album this band has been on a song to song basis for me. They never get me excited, but worth checking out for 2 or 3 good songs. |

I like it, but this is an alternative rock album, is pretty far from metal. I would say this is more in line with indie rock than metal. I recommended this album to my girl, but I don't really know if the metal archives forum is the right audience to this album. Is good tho, is a very mellow and chill rock album. |

I'm 2/3 of the way through and this is how I'm feeling too. And if John starts soft speaking one more time I'm gonna scream. |

On first impression, a total wet fart of an album. Not liking it all but not really surprised, feels like everything since Red has been kinda downhill (even the album art). |

Yeah the general reaction to post Blue Baroness hasn't been the most positive here - that lack of interest is why I didn't start a thread for the new one myself. If you're not into the mellow elements large swaths of those albums will do nothing for you. Beyond some sections on Magnolia and Under the Wheel there's not much sludge to be found on this one as well. I'm liking this one more with each listen though. Something about their music just resonates with me emotionally. Maybe it's the vulnerability. The soaring vocal lines, the sweet acoustics, great lyrics as always. |

Yellow & Green is my personal Baroness sweet spot but this one is at least better than Gold & Gray |

I don't have a problem listening to alternative rock/metal but I don't think Baroness do a particularly good job of it on their album. Maybe if there was more sludge metal to counterbalance things I would like it more. |

I've seen some praise about the production, and ok, It wasn't hard to do a better job, but I don't think they have achieved anything extremely remarkable musically with this album, not even if I judge it in non-metal terms. |
