I was actually beginning to think that "Void" needs to be retired as an element in metal band names. There are so many bands nowadays with "Void" in their name somewhere it's ridiculous: https://www.metal-archives.com/search/a ... ame=#bands

You could have a band name generator using the most common words found in band names:

To create your band name, select one word from the left and combine it with one word on the right:

Moon .............. Bong
Death .............. Forest
Angel ............... Moon
Legion ............. Death
Bong ............... Angel
Forest ............... Corpse
Corpse .............. Slaughter
Black ................ Lord
Lord ................. Hate
Morbid .............. Hell
Hate ................ Goat

I would bet, that you could generate several hundred names of actual existing bands using the above band name generator. If, for example, there is no such band as "Moon Slaughter" or "Corpse Angel" then I suspect someone will form one before long.

But really, the band name generator is wild, and OF COURSE I will browse the recommendations so kiitos to that.

Holy shit, after following the link you provided I see what you're saying......I had no idea this feature was a thing, nor are there so many bands with a void in their lives sheesh.

An advanced search shows 599 bands on the Archives with "moon" somewhere in the name. Cryptic Wintermoon is by far the one I listen to most frequently.

Just for fun, I did a search of the more common names: It came up with only 490 for "moon" when I did a search, so I don't know what caused the variation

But among the more common names I tested, "Death" was the most common with 1,948, followed by "Black" with 1799, then "Dark" with 1,168. There are also:

-519 bands with "Metal" somewhere in the name.
-406 bands with "Void" somewhere in the name.
-382 bands with "Angel" somewhere in the name
-306 bands with "Iron" in the name
-357 bands with "Steel" in the name
-234 "Morbid" bands
-209 "Legion" bands, including 43 bands that are simply called "Legion."
-120 "Tyrant" bands, including 25 that are simply called "Tyrant."
-112 "Sword" bands.
-and surprisingly, only 45 "Bong" bands, though perhaps NOT surprisingly, the vast majority of them are classified as some form of "Stoner" or "Doom" metal.

This is turning out to be a more interesting thread than I had expected it to be, actually.

Hint: If you are ever thinking of starting a new band, perhaps you should choose a name other than "Legion" or "Tyrant," or for that matter, anything with "Death" or "Black" in the name.

Death Tyrant Metal Legion
Steel Sword wielding Void Angel of the Black

Someone get on it, quick.

Another very common word is "blood" with 1,204 results (1,563 including partial matches)
"Anal" yields only 93 hits (124 including partial matches). I think it used to be way more that, apparently many grindcore bands have been removed.

I actually did this type of search some years ago; I can't remember the exact results, but likely they were similar.

I got 3 seconds in and liked it, the vocals got me immediately......I'll certainly write this one down! And as I'm listening now it reminds me of a band I REALLY like called Divine Souls whom some of you might know only had a few records but got damn they're awesome and I still enjoy the music they made. I never followed up with any of those musicians so if anyone happens to become reminded, I'd love to know if they did anything else.
Thanx again for the Cryptic Wintermoon ref \m/

Okay, mind blown! This had never even occurred to me, then again I did just learn recently about this search tool on this site...pretty banana's and the examples you have given seem to be really great examples too. Thanx for doing the work.

One member told me I'm not as interesting as I think I am, and while I agree with them, as that was never my objective: to parade around and showcase my 'interesting notions' I too think this thread is.....but more so now that other members have contributed.

What in the actual fawk......as the kids say......
Over 1200 bands with bloody names hahahah! You're saying Grindcore bands have been removed for not meeting criteria?

this sort of thing is super easy to check by going to the members tab of the band here on the archives - looks like half of the members are now in a band called carnal savagery

If you remove an "o" from Goatmoon, you will have powerful Digimon.

I think this deserves some clarification. I only said that because you told me to grow up and stop embarrassing myself and not because I think your posts are not interesting. Granted, I’ve told you to eff off first. For that I’m sorry, some douchebag told me something offensive about my mother and I was pissed. Somehow, I’ve taken your ''Get it together'' post as somewhat patronizing. I guess what I’m trying to say is I don’t have anything against you. You called me a few interesting names in Finnish, so after this, I guess we’re even

I was thinking about how many band names are directly related to Lord of the Rings lore?
I can think of Amon Amarth, Carach Angren, a few Balrog's.......anyone know any more?

Burzum is the first one that comes to my mind, there's also Isengard and definitely many more that I'm unaware of.

Seven Kingdoms is a power metal band that clearly fits the bill. It's named after the seven dwarven kingdoms in exile after their banishment from Moria (the concept of the "King in the North" closely following Thorin and his gangs' adventures up at the Lonely Mountain).

Highly recommended

(this one is about a really bad fall Thorin had up at the Lonely Mountain)

And nobody has mentioned Moonblood yet!? Was the first one I thought of and they were actually pretty good. Just plain Moon which someone posted a song of above is another I've listened to before as well, and Crimson Moon a little bit.

Don't pay heed to me, that was just drunken tomfoolery (the band's actually named after A Song of Ice and Fire).

Gorgoroth is another obvious one, taken from a plateau in Mordor. Similarly the bands Orodruin, Cirith Gorgor and Ephel Dúath are also named after topographical landmarks in Mordor.
