One listen in and its pretty good. I'll be picking it up. Not as wanky as I was fearing. Not as good as PC but only one listen so far.

I'm seeing these guys tonight for the album release show. Should be a good time.

This more progressive version of the band takes a bit of getting used to, but I think the album is solid on the first couple of listens.

I've never been a fan of this band, but this record really surprised me. VERY interesting guitar work

really enjoyed this off first listen. haven’t listened to them in four years but this just feels like a natural progression of the last one, at least what i remember of it. “flesh as armour” has maybe the most seamlessly integrated holdsworthisms i’ve heard in death metal

Yep i can hear some Holdsworth there too haha

Very impressed with this one. Really like the more progressive direction in this one.

I'm cycling between this and Blood Incantation and my brain keeps thinking this is the new Blood Incantation album. Which is the highest of compliments. This is incredible.

Man, "Will of Whispers" is downright comical in its combination of bland grunts and super emotive, introspective, maybe even philosophical clean guitar noodling. Really bad stuff.

That’s the one track I just can’t gel with. My friend came over as it was on and asked if I was listening to Between the Buried and Me. For the most part the proggy stuff is integrated a lot better on the rest of the album.

Different tastes and all, I find Will of Whispers one of the highlights along with the title track.

i really didn't expect tomb mold to go prog. great stuff so far, on a first listen this might be my favorite.

IMHO there have been hints of this new direction as far back as in Manor, although just in slight proggy touches within an OSDM-revivalesque framework, rather than the full prog-death direction they have taken with the new album.

I think that Tomb Mold definitely have the technique and the writing chops to pull this new style off successfully, but personally I like the classic Finndeath style more than I like prog metal, so right off the bat it looks like they won't be topping Manor or Planetary Clairvoyance in my book.

Yeah to me this sounds like a continuation of Planetary Clairvoyance and Aperture of Body.

This is clearly a step up from their other stuff... flows better, more propulsive. I wasn't sure I needed more tech death with space themes but this does sound cool and exciting anyway. Dunno how mind-blowing it is but it's entertaining anyway.

Have to agree it's not as different as I figured... the prog parts are ear-catching, but ultimately a lot of it just sounds like a slightly more agile version of what they did before. But they're very good at writing these brick-like, claustrophobic riffs.

First listen, the first two shorter tracks were my favorites weirdly. Something cool about this faster, punchier side.

I've been through this a couple times now and it's caught my ears a lot more than any of their other stuff did.

I'm a big fan of all the clean guitar parts amidst all the death metal.

This new album is definitely different then the previous two. While I really enjoyed both their previous releases and the osdm revival style they were going for, it's fun to see them explore avenues less explored by other bands before them. I don't know if I love the new stuff, but it was definitely interresting. I'll give it a few more spins for sure :-)

So first album was a New York and a bit of Swedish scene tribute, the second cavernous death metal and Finnish underground, the third a space cavernous(always less)Death-ish opera and now we have a progressive album..

What next guys?

No avant-garde please
