Quote: Tomb Mold is back. The 4th album ‘The Enduring Spirit’ will be released on all streaming platforms this Friday 9/15 - no waiting. That same day we will start pre-orders for all physical formats at 11 a.m. EST with an actual release date of October 13th. More information about those will be posted in the coming days. The band has previously announced two shows this weekend in Toronto and Montreal and yes, those are release shows to commemorate the new album. 9/15 - Lee’s Palace – Toronto, ON w/ Undeath, Outer Heaven 9/16 - Foufounes Électriques – Montréal, QC w/ Outer Heaven, Serpent Corpse After releasing three albums in three years and then spending the next four in the wilderness, TOMB MOLD has been reborn on fourth album ‘The Enduring Spirit’, a thoroughly unabashed step into vast new territories. Yet for all its frenetic daring and audacious exploration, ‘The Enduring Spirit’ is never anything other than unmistakably Tomb Mold. With 4 years away, a band with boundless creative energy, as TOMB MOLD are, were certain to expand the scope of their vision, and on ‘The Enduring Spirit’ they’ve shaped a record with a cinematic environment that offers unlimited avenues of exploration, both for themselves and the listener. 1. The Perfect Memory (Phantasm of Aura) 2. Angelic Fabrications 3. Will Of Whispers 4. Fate’s Tangled Thread 5. Flesh As Armour 6. Servants Of Possibility 7. Damn. Great news, plus hardly any wait at all. What an overwhelming time of the year for huge death metal releases. The cover art looks a lot more Dream Unending than Tomb Mold, but I guess they're pushing their spacey sci-fi themes even further. Oh well, I thought Planetary Clairvoyance was their best record yet so I'm stoked to hear what they've come up with this time. And please tour more! |

Man, I'm starting to feel bad for all the metal producers who aren't Arthur Rizk these days. It seems like he's the only person any bands of note care about. Is he really that much better than everyone else? |

Everything the band has released from Manor of Infinite Forms and onwards have been classics, and I have high hopes that this one is gonna be just as great. |

I don't love the way he mixes vocals for newer trad bands, that characteristic echoey, almost autotune-sounding effect he does for bands like Sumerlands, Eternal Champion, Blood Star, etc. You just don't get nearly as much grit as I think these bands should have. And the vocals on the new Smoulder album are so buried and muddy that it took me ages to get past it and still try to enjoy the record. It almost makes me think I'm taking crazy pills since I never hear anyone else mention this. It almost ruined the record for me when it came out, and I still vastly prefer the debut because of this. Still, as I've said, he's worked on tons of albums I love (and I still love the above bands/albums I mentioned), and the number as well as the range of bands he works with is pretty crazy. |

Is he really that much better than everyone else? It only seems that way because of how many high profile bands he's worked with. There are only 27 albums/EPs released this year that he worked on in any capacity and I'm counting remixed/remastered versions of old albums and compilations in those. Compared to some of the guys who've been doing this for decades that's actually a small number, Dan Swano has worked on like 40 2023 releases alone, for example. |

Interesting! I guess it just stands out a bit more because he kinda came out of nowhere and it seems to be all the bands I listen to. Feels like Paolo Girardi in 2015. I get what he's going for but it's usually just a huge distraction personally. |

The artwork seems to suggest that they are continuing on with the cosmic death metal style that they explored on Planetary Clairvoyance, which is an A+ in my book. |

My first thought is that the cover art is *amazing*. Coupled with the song titles, I'm getting big Dream Unending vibes. Based on last year's Aperture of Body demo/EP, it does seem like they're moving in a direction more inspired by Cynic, Atheist, and Human-era Death than the Finndeath/cavernous death metal sound they've had for the first few releases. Love that we only have to wait a few more days until it's released. Will undoubtedly be in the running for my top 10 list this year. |

Today I listened to their last album. I like it, it reminds me of a lot of bands like Immolation and Incantation that played cavernous death metal. Not the most creative sound but it's a cool death metal record. Hope that this new album brings something else to the table. |

I absolutely love the vocals on the new Smoulder. Maybe just her performance rather than the production, but really I just think she sounds thundering on there. |

I think the echoey vocal effects worked well with the more AOR approach that Sumerlands was going on their last album but I can understand those concerns with Smoulder and Blood Star. Still pretty great albums all around for me. I’ve liked what I’ve heard of Tomb Mold so far so I’ll be curious to hear how this turns out, even better if they slip into a bit of Dream Unending territory. |

https://grizzlybutts.com/2023/09/12/tomb-mold-the-enduring-spirit-2023-review/ Last song is eleven and a half minutes long, from the sound of it they might be taking the plunge into a more progressive death metal sound. |

Not sure I'm interested in a more technical/progressive Tomb Mold. Spinning PC now and its a crusher. I prefer more straight forward death metal like this or Necrot than something with more flash. |

I initially fell in love with Tomb Mold because they sounded like classic Finnish death metal, Slumber of Sullen Eyes/World Without God type shit, which I’m much more partial toward than stuff like Cynic. I suppose I trust them enough not to totally abandon their sound, so I’m still stoked to hear this new one. |

As folks predicted there is a ton of Cynic worship here. The rest sounds like Blood Incantation. Nothing wrong with that to my ears, but I can imagine a lot of complaints about the extended jazzy parts. |

Well if you guys like stuff like Cynic, Atheist, or Human and Symbolic Era of Death you will probably enjoy this. I like it, at least is a bit different from the Incantation/Immolation style of the older records. Prog-death metal is not my favorite genre, but I understand that they wanted to do something a little different, and I can respect that. |

Great album. I think the transition to a more progressive death metal style is very refreshing and definitely puts this new one over Planetary Clairvoyance in terms of quality. In fact, it might edge out Manor... by a hair in my Tomb Mold ranking (though the first few songs of that album are the high point of their discography, IMO). The last track is just so good, between that and Will of Whispers you can tell that Dream Unending has influenced Derrick's writing for Tomb Mold. fabiodrums wrote: For me is no. I'm kind of surprised neither of the metal tracks on that release ended up on The Enduring Spirit, they're both great songs and would fit in quite well. |

Yeah, I saw that post and was gonna say that of all the stuff they've done to this point, this sounds closest to Aperture of Body by a long shot (although I'd argue they were already starting to get more technical on Planetary Clairvoyance, albeit not nearly to the extent of the new album). After one listen to the new album, I like it but the clean guitar parts are gonna take multiple listens to wrap my head around. I really dig most of it though, especially that first track. |

I've never been a fan of this band, they just don't catch my attention even though the musicianship is skilled. Those jazzy parts sound truly and honestly natural and totally unforced though: this is leagues ahead of other bands that are technical just for the hell of it. I'm gonna have to give this another spin... |

Last song is dope. As usual with Tomb Mold there's very little that sticks out to me on first listen, structurally I always felt their DM to be very "by the books". Flesh as Armour has some great riffing though and I'm sure the rest will grow on me in time. It's nice they've changed up the formula, really couldn't see them doing the Manor/Planetary sound for yet another album. |
