Was it any good?
I'm short on cash and want to know before I blow it on this documentary.

It was pretty good, it pays homage to all the "classic" bands (the big 5 and Kreator mainly.) I would have to liked to have seen more live footage from the 80s as I think it focused to much on opinions from metalcore bands, and could have done with more of a soundtrack. Worth watching though.

I bought it and thought it was pretty good, they interviewed originators and talk to some newer bands. Also in the extra stuff theres segments on thrash bands country by country which was pretty good.
I think Metal: A Headbangers Journey was better and I can't wait for Global Metal to come out.

Isn't that the one with Slipknot in it or something?

It's not bad. You can tell the makers knew their thrash. There's no real narration, it's just a bunch of interviews thrown into segments about scenes and bands. At least it didn't pretend to have a message like Headbanger's.

It's ok, some of it's pretty funny (like the interviews with Megadave).
It leaves alot out but that's expected from a film an hour and a half long.
A lot of the commentry from metalcore/nu-metal bands seems out of place though - it's like the filmmaker was educating themselves on thrash while making it and realised "Shit - i've been talking to the wrong people. I better go interview some thrash bands".

It was a pretty good movie, the ending was kind of lame though.

I finally watched this yesterday, and I would not recommend you waste your money on it. If you really want to watch it, download it. Having the bands talk about the history of the genre was ok, but for the life of me I cannot understand the point of having Slipknot, Kittie and similar bands included. The point seemed to be to show the influence of thrash, except if they wanted to do that why not interview any number of the thrash bands popping up the last few years? Sitting there listening to a member of Slipknot say "yeah dude, when I heard that song I was like psshh...woah!" or Kittie going on about "yeah like and like Pantera like was like all groovy like n' shit like like" None of that added anything to the movie, and I think it was very poor judgement on the part of the creators to include bands like that. I think they also could have delved a little more beyond the major bands, which they would have had time for if they haven't wasted the time on the uninsightful opinions of numetal bands.
