It ISN'T black metal.

It is. The new Darkthrone just screams "BLACK METAL" when compared to all the lame modern black metal bands around. Fenriz and Nocturno Culto do what they want and don't give a shit, and that's what black metal should be about. RickJames' last post was pretty much spot on.

Attitude does not equal music genre.

As I said, RickJames summed it up earlier. It's not just about the attitude.

I have read his post before.
I agree that black metal is more than just the sonic aspect.

Does anyone know if there are plans for a special/limited edition of this album to be released. The last two darkthrone albums i have bought almost instantly, only to see another version pack with some kind of bonus features months later.

Im currently holding out on purchasing so if there is a release with something extra on it, ill get that.

The last one had a special edition with a t-shirt thrown in..I think. Usually these kinds of things come out a couple months after the primary release. If it does come out, grab it.

Cool man, thanks. I glanced over a post on here a few days ago which had info saying there has been about 3 versions of this album released, all with various bonus content i think. Im still yet to see any 'deluxe' versions of the album down here in shops, but im hanging like hell.

Im just sick of buying releases as soon as they come out, then only to see some sort of bonus package released somewhile later so quickly. It just leaves me with a ripped off feeling for being keen enough to buy new releases too early. I don't double on releases anymore when a special version has been released, id rather put the money into a completely new disc i don't own.

When all the Emperor releases that were repackaged hit the shelves, i was quite depressed. The extra shit they packed into all of those looked fantastic, but unfortunatly i already own all of them!

Darkthrone change there style way to much. Dark Thrones and black flags was recorded on random trips to the studio. Darkthrone seem to just be using there name to write then release a new album each year.
Yes i own it and it sounds alright pretty much old heavy metal with a touch of viking punk music as they call it.
Nothing to go crazy about just Darkthrone new sound nothing will top there early days of A blaze in the northern sky or Under a funeral moon and can't forget Transilvanian Hunger.
But bands change over time darkthrone have always changed just look at there first album Soulside jorney it was Death metal and then all the black metal came then more slow black metal and then pretty much heavy metal now this more punk / heavy metal.
One day i hope darkthrone will try another black metal album one day PLEASE!!!!

It was pretty cheeky of them to paraphrase the most-memorable "Transilvanian Hunger" riff for "Dungeon Shaker" and then bring it into this upbeat, rocking context. I must say I rather like it, and wouldn't mind if the band did more exploration along these sorts of lines.
