Post subject:  Let There be Blood

All apologies if something has been posted to this effect already, but my search didn't turn up anything.

I was riding in the car with a friend of mine today, and I'll be damned if he didn't have Exodus' remake of Bonded by Blood on (titled, irritatingly, "Let There Be Blood"...lame). Anybody else heard it?

I only heard the title track, "Exodus," "And Then There Were None," and "A Lesson in Violence" by my impressions were pretty positive. Rob Dukes tries to sound like Baloff sometimes (you can't), but on the whole he doesn't suck too bad. The riffs are still awesome, even with the modern production (which doesn't neuter them as much as you might think).

On the whole, I wouldn't say it's any better or worse than the original. Just a different take on the same masterpiece.

You may now commence yelling at me.

Surprisingly, I found the version of A Lesson In Violence to be better.

I think Dukes is a pretty good vocalist (especially Deathamphetamine), but there's no way in Hell he's as good as Baloff.

Just got all the way through LTBB. The version of No Love on this album is purely worthless, as is Deliver Us To Evil.

Bonded by Blood, A Lesson in Violence, Metal Command, Strike of the Beast, and Hell's Breath are all decent.

Awesome to finally hear Hell's Breath, because it's a great song.

You know what, I'm not going to listen to this. It will destroy the nostalgia I had of the original, like Stormblast MMV. I almost had to go through therapy to get that abomination out of my memory.

I listened to it, and I was surprised how Dukes sounded like Ballof at times. The same drunken intensity.

Metal Command is quite chaotic in the new version but other songs are not that bad. The shadows of a comercial move still remain...

I haven't heard any except for "And Then There Were None," which I just listened to on youtube. I didn't like it and it didn't keep my attention long enough for me to finish the song. It doesn't stack up against the original at all. I didn't like the vocals on that song, though I can imagine liking them in different circumstances, and the new guitar sound didn't please me, again, I can imagine liking the sound elsewhere. On top of that, the song was slowed down which just helped to make it boring and dull. If you don't make the comparison, I may not have been that bad, but if your remaking an album, a comparison is beyond inevitable. One is just far better than the other. Judging by that track, I'm by no means compelled to listen to any more of the new album.

This album is utter garbage. Raping a classic such as BBB is such a affront.

The is band should have split right after Tempo of the Dead.

Not as bad as I expected it to be.

Either way, the fact they did it alone instead of letting it remain the same classic it is makes it shit by principle.

There's no reason for a band to record their albums, especially classics, more so with half their lineups from those days.

That's like if the modern version of possessed re-recorded seven churches.

Never, ever say that out loud again. I didn't listen to this, nor do I plan too ... fuck Holt, fuck Dukes and fuck "Exodus".

This album is utterly worthless. It's like they took the guitar tone from Another Lesson In Violence, put in Dukes' vocals that's probably as bad as his performance on Shovel (I thought he improved on Atrocity Exhibition, still a shitty album though), put in some really shitty lead guitar tone and you get this album.

Haven't heard the album, but the cover looks good.

Don't be surprised if down the road the original/re-recorded double cd set is released.

I like this record. It does not bother me at all if bands re-record their older songs or albums.

It's actually fucking awesome.
Didn't expect that at all.

I heard the rerecording of "Exodus" earlier and it was pretty good. No significant changes to the original riffs and structure, nice energy, good vocal performance, and a heavy production than the original.

When Steve Souza left after Tempo of the Damned, the first guy Exodus went to to replace him was not Rob Dukes.

It was John Scherrer from Fatal Aggression. The only reason why he couldn't take the job was because he had to move to California - something he could not do.

John is better than Rob Dukes, although that is my opinion -

John is on Plastic Smile, and also does back up on Eternal Life. Eternal Life and the other tracks are from Organized Confusion, from 1998. I am not certain what album Plastic Smile is from.

It would've been interesting, however, to hear how the last couple albums would sound if John was the vocalist of Exodus instead of Rob Dukes.

I like it.
But why did they bother recording this when there's Another Lesson In Violence?
Oh well.

I wouldn't call Baloff a good vocalist. His attitude and personality made him awesome however

Regardless of what the end result is, there is no reason for them to be fucking around with a classic like Bonded By Blood. They should have left it be.

I'm not in any hurry to listen to this. I've said it before, and I'm sure it'll come up again ... "Another Lesson in Violence" is an already-recorded "Bonded by Blood", and in the live setting no less, where those songs were really meant to work, but with a nice and full modern sound too .. I've certainly no desire to buy the same songs, some of which have apparently been slowed down, with Rob Dukes singing and possibly some different solos. Still, the promise of a new song is somewhat interesting.

I'll agree - hearing Metal Command and Death's Breath re-recorded is rather excellent

Question: In addition to slowing it down, do they downtune on it as well?
