I feel this will be a 50/50 release. It has the potential to suck because of how a lot of comeback albums do end up sucking or being mediocre at best. But on the other hand, I've heard they sound great live so we can at least expect some good musicianship even if the music lacks in the quality of the songwriting.

I'm excited for it. They were all on top of their game when I saw them live.

I will buy it via iTunes for cheaper but I won't have any expectations for it. I welcome it more than the supposed Black Sabbath reunion studio album that probably won't happen.

Well the three new songs on the The Dio Years comp were great, so I don't see any reason to have anything but high expectations.

Should be good. :)

Vinny Appice didn't even appear on the actual Heavan and Hell album so I think that name was sort of a misnomer but he did drum for them in the best non-Ozzy lineup so it's cool. Anyhow, I am going to wait until the album comes out rather than sneak peak it.

The three new songs were pretty good, so it should be decent at the very least.

I don't know if I would call that a debut...I mean, it's still Black Sabbath, just with another name.

I'm expecting something solid, heavy and relevant, but nothing mindblowing. Should be great!

Looking forward to it, despite I know they will not release a masterpiece. Still, I want it! :headbang:

And he did drum on Mob Rules and most of the Dio albums. I'm looking forward to this release.

Nah, The Dio-era and Ozzy-Era (Gillan was kind of transitory...) were compeltely different sounding bands. Why bother? Theres only two of the original members.

The point is, those "two original members" were the driving force behind Sabbath's creativity for all these years. Since many enjoy the Dio-era Sabbath (me included), I can see this formation turning out some worthwhile music.

That's why we bother.

This is probably the first reunion news that I have thought could produce some promising results. I would be very interested in hearing some new material from them.

Im not saying I dont like Dio era Sabbath. I love it. I just think the Ozzy-era was better.
But I do see your point with the creative drive. Didnt Geezer write msot early sabbath songs?

Thank goodness for that. Aside from the ability to evoke a certain degree of nostalgia, Bill Ward's drumming was never anything to write home about. Vinny is, by far, the superior drummer.

I disagree. I find Bill ward's drumming to be much better. It fits with the atmosphere better, is more creative, and inspired millions of future doom metal drummers.

I agree with you King, Bill Ward is far more original and creative than Vinny. But then again, Vinny is quite decent too.

One of the most highly anticipated albums for me, based on the three new tracks on Dio Years, it should be excellent. High hopes for sure.

Phil Collins!

Yeah, Supernaut and The Wizard, boring as hell drumming there. Bill had it fucking nailed - the tone, the groove and the sound. Watch the live version of War Pigs from 1970 great stuff.

Vinny, too, is awesome not as good as Bill was in his prime but I do love his playing. These days he's a lot better than Bill, who's in pretty bad shape after the whole heart attack/alcoholism deal.

You've heard they sound great live? I hope you mean in person and haven't neglected to check out the DVD.
And I highly doubt it will "suck" because of the hours of evidence over the years that suggests otherwise.

Bill Ward was fucking awesome for the type of stripped down skinning that was required for doom metal. Sure, he was no Bonzo or Neil Peart but why would he have to be to be great? Self-Titled through SBS was some great drumming that I always can't get enough of on those plays.

Indeed, it's fucking ACE! In fact, it's the best live song ever recorded. Or perhaps even the best fucking song ever, any version, any time, all time. Fuck.

I'm not one to sit and headbang on my own in my room, but that's one of the few songs which get me going, stomping the beat with my feet as I go. Damn. Fuck, Blood!

Damn it, I take one day off the internet and people are onto this before me. I've been rabidly scanning for information on this for ages. The Dio Years tracks were brilliant (tell me that 'Shadow of the Wind' isn't a monster doom riff in the grandest tradition), and in short I can't wait.

I'll just be glad that a band with this history will no longer be thought of as going out with a wimper on that unenthusiastic rush job of an album that was 'Forbidden'. The first studio album in fifteen years? Bring it on.

Once H & H finishes the album and support tour, that will probably be it for awhilefrom them as maybe Black Sabbath might do something. If he doesn't resume Dio, who here would like to see a Rainbow reunion with Ronnie and Ritchie? That would pretty much be a nice summation and farewell to a nice career for Ronnie.

Although Ward is one of my favorite drummers (and a huge influence on my playing), Vinny is clearly the tighter drummer and more Bonham influenced then anything. Ward's playing up through Volume 4 is extremely influencial and his playing was pretty funked out. I dig that whole vibe though.

Anyway, about a new album with Dio, IMO cool. Better do it before he's 70

I have no doubt this will be an excellent album. These guys are masters, and the new songs they did for the compilation album were great.

Ditto.

I'm beyond excited. My favorite Sabbath line-up is the Dio years anyway.
