I have Demon Entrails, and think it's pretty good. I love CD one, 'Satanic Rites', but I honestly can't sit through CD two without either switching back to Satanic Rites or listening to something else altogether. It just sounds terrible.
However, I would like to begin a hunt to grab some other, older material by Hellhammer, and was wondering, for those of you who own some of this, how does it sound? From what I understand, CD one is remastered and there are a few re-recorded versions, so that contributes to it sounding better. But if older material is unlistenable, as I find Death Fiend/Triumph of Death (CD2), I won't even bother.

Thanks in Advance.

As for whether or not I'll have luck finding any of this, don't bother adressing that, I'll find out on my own.

I tend to only listen to disc 1 aswell, but I much prefer the original version of Triumph of death on disc 2 to the re-recorded one.

Are you bothered because of the production, or you don't like Steve Warrior's voice, or bass playing?
If the second, I'm gonna rob you, rape you, sodomize, kill etc :P.

I think the main problem is the production, but everything sounds very strange. I just can't sit through it. And Warrior isn't the only one singing on this one, correct?

And....it wouldn't be rape

Just move on to Celtic Frost's Morbid Tales. You'll probably like that more.

Yeah, I was a Celtic Frost fan before picking this up. I just want to travel farther (further?) back.

Im listening to CD2 again, Crucifixion. Is that Tom or Steve doing the vocals? Those are the main thing bothering the piss out of me now.

Yeah that's what confuses me, I only hear one vocalist, maybe I'll discover otherwise upon closer inspection. Doesn't sound like Tom.

I think it's Steve. Song's vocals are totally different from Satanic Rites, in which Tom sings. But I cannot be 100% sure. I like them very, very, very much.

rape? haha! **sigh**

There is no other Hellhammer demomaterial which is not on these Demon Entrails 3-LP/2-CD.

Demon Entrails, despite being announced as "massive remastering and so on..." is taken from the US-Bootleg CDs that got released two years ago, as they had some of the best sound ever. Though, all Bootlegs starting since 1991 have a cutted version of Third Of The Storms.
Read the story here:
http://www.recordfinder.com/forum/viewt ... c&start=55
=> The Demon entrails release could have been way better with the sound.

By the way, there is exactly one rehearsal which can be downloaded there featuring a 30-second instrumental song called "Demon Entrails, played by Tom/Bruce Day/Mike Baum shortly before Hellhammer broke up.
http://www.celticfrost.com/Hellhammer.zip
It is a constant rehearsing of Revelations Of Doom for 20 minutes and then they play Demon Entrails.

In the thread-link on page 6 there is also a selfmade cover by a Hellhammer fan for this rehearsal.

German speakers listening to the rehearsal may understand why Mike Baum was kicked out quiet fast.

There is one more Rehersal which is said to be already from Celtic Frost days. I still doubt that due to the guitar sound and that mostly Hellhammer songs are played, together with rough first ultraheavy versions of Visions And Mortality and Dethroned Emperor. Plus some Angel Witch cover of Extermination Day. That stuff has been pressed in big parts on the Celtic Frost - Demos 84 & 85 Bootleg CD. Messiah was taken from this rehearsal for the Buried And Forgotten 7". But I still think it was done in the last days of Hellhammer.

If you like the Satanic Rites demo go and hunt:

Warhammer - Curse Of The Absolut Eclipse LP&CD / Towards The Chapter Of Chaos demo/Re-Release LP/Re-Release CD

Apocalyptic Raids - The Return Of The Satanic Rites LP/CD => total genius. Captures the Satanic Rites atmosphere exactly. Also the songs are totally killer. Even better than their follow-up The Third Storm LP/CD.

Crude Society System - 7" (from 1985!!!!! Swedish Crust band that had a lot of Apocalyptic Raids EP-like riffs in their songs with a Satanic Rites like production)
http://www.myspace.com/crudess with great songsamples, and the best Hellhammer-stuff isn't even there.

Apocalyptic Raids will definitely suit your needs. If you don't like disc2, then you don't like it. It's just not for you. I personally love it.

One of them sang the verse and the other sang the chorus, check the booklet it should be in there somewhere who sang what.

I'll have to look at the songs more on CD2, then. Interesting...

And to peterott and Nolan_B, thanks alot for the help, I'll refer back to your posts when I start looking.

Personally, I love Steve's voice, particularly on the track 'Blood Insanity', though his clanky, overloud bass playing is actually rather funny.

The bass sound is the best part about the Triumph of Death/Denial Fiend demos. That's a fact.

Indeed it is. Sure, Satanic Rites has the better sound quality and song writing but DAMN, that bass sound just rules.
