Yeah, the new vocalist is a hell of a lot better, I actually sat through that whole song, and I loved it. Thanks for posting this man.

Also, AAAAAAAAAARCHERS ARE UHN THE TOWELS.

That said, I have not been able to take this band seriously because of that horrid music video. Maybe this will change my opinion.

I noticed the drummer was wearing a slipknot shirt much too late :P

I was waiting for some crazy falsetto, but the vocalist sounded like he was really trying to contain himself, like he was trying to keep himself in check. He does sound good though.

Haha, I know. Now that they're not unintentionally hilarious, I have no reason to listen to this band.

This guy sounds like a drunk Timo Koltipelto with asthma or something.

Yep, Kaledon is done. This is incredibly boring, faceless crap that I won't ever bother checking out. It's really only a couple steps above Evergrey's Torn, actually - pseudo-intellectual serious bullshit. Shame; I do like the keyboards and the guitars at times, but I won't be buying into this because of that.

I'm listening to that music video everyone was bitching about and I must say you are all crazy. This rules, and is way better than the drivel they're doing this year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7ScdzpW ... re=related

And this one, too. Total mid-era Stratovarius worship, and it's great. :headbang:

Yeah I'm with Empyreal, I prefer the old vocalist. I dunno so much about this new guy but the Kaledon album I have is really damn good and the vocalist was always decent.

That one is a step up from The New Kingdom (which I have to admit is catchy... but good? No). Still hilarious but not nearly as much as he isn't wearing pajamas and making ridiculous hand gestures the entire time.

Yeah, the video is gay, but The New Kingdom isn't a bad song at all; just sort of derivative and cliched. I just like how they don't really take themselves seriously at all and yet manage to make quality Power Metal and not sound like Rhapsody or something. They're sincere and they sound like they're having fun, not trying to impress anyone or appeal to any crowd.

So being derivative and cliche isn't bad? Generally I find those things to be pretty indicative of poor music. I suppose that's a staple of most power metal anyways, though. Can't exactly be balls deep in the genre without being able to accept that, so whatever. I'll just stick with Angra and Blind Guardian and a handful of other things and leave it at that for power metal.

Every genre has their derivative and cliched bands, not just PM. Look at all the Black Metal bedroom bands and Darkthrone wannabes, and the Death Metal bands that try to be Autopsy and Morbid Angel. And let's not go into Thrash.

And plenty of things can be good while still being derivative and cliched, it just has to do with how much energy you put into it. Of course, bands like that will probably never be top-tier, but it can still be quality. Kaledon aren't a great Power Metal band by any stretch, but they are competent enough and they used to play some fun stuff.

I can go with that. It just seems to me like the level of non-cliched and derivative good bands in other genres is higher than in power metal. Not to say that there aren't plenty of good bands in the genre, though.

Definitely agreed about thrash, though. The whole pizza-nacho-shark-skateboard-zombie thrash bullshit is really wearing thin on me.

I think it's actually that awesome Power Metal bands aren't as plentiful as those in other genres, for some strange reason. The good bands are just as good as the best from any other genre, but it's hard to find new talent right now. Black and Death and Thrash bands can be good whether they're independent or on a big label, as raw production sounds good with these genres, but Power Metal is seriously neutered without a kick-ass production job to accent the riffs and the power of the vocals, and so many of the little bands fade into obscurity quickly.

You've definitely got a point about the production. I'd say actual musical talent seems to play a big factor in it as well. Power metal seems to rely on more technical elements (more leads, etc.) although thats not always the case and there are obviously more technical bands in other genres, you basically have to be musically competent to play even decent power metal.
So the number of absolutely shitty bands seems to be lower while the number of simply decent, derivative, generic seems to be much higher.

As for this video, I hate the drummer because he's wearing a Slipknot shirt (alright, if you like a song or two, fine, but if you own a shirt, fuck you). The music is way better than anything I'd heard from them in the past and the new vocalist actually sounds pretty good. Has a lot more "power" in his voice than the previous one, thats for sure. Still need work on lyrics, though.

The vocals are good, but the song itself is very boring. Not saying the musicians aren't talented, the general structure of the song is just very stock and bland.

The new vocalist doesn't even sound technically good. He sounds like the lovechild of latter-day Timo Koltipelto and Tom Englund, and that isn't something to be proud of.

No...I said I wouldn't listen to this new stuff now that I don't like the change in vocalists.
