Where is there an abundance of Metalheads in the US? I live in Maryland and well, it's a shithole. Real metalheads are hard to find, atleast where I live and if I do find people who claim they listen to metal I'll find them listening to shit like slipknot, avenged sevenfold, Bring Me The Horizon, Family Force 5, ect.

:violin:

Because the US has a large population and metal is often marketed there.

The Chicago area has a pretty good underground metal scene right now. It's quite possibly the best in the country, although that may not say much.

I know, but there still isn't a large metal scene here. Atleast in my area. I live in the Baltimore area. Probably the shittiest area in MD. I'm just glad I don't live in the city.

Just because there are a lot of American metalheads in total doesn't mean there's a large concentration of them in any one place. Presumably in various major cities there are clubs where you could find a lot of them.

I don't think that's only limited to the US. It's probably like that everywhere.

Not all of us American metalheads look like metalheads. Some of us have short hair (or no hair) and are in our 30's or older, with families.

I love the Texas metal scene. Houston death metal bands are a dime a dozen, but the black metal (and a few death metal bands) around the state are very good, in my opinion. The best part about it is that its more like a brotherhood, and the concerts are like a big family reunion. As big of a state as Texas is, you see the exact same people at nearly every show, no matter what part of the state the show is taking place. Going to shows like that is where I met most of my metalhead friends.

No matter where I go, unless its at a concert, finding real metalheads is rare. But it doesn't bother me. I enjoy being an individual.

The midwest metal scene kind of sucks. There are too many deathcore fans... As I Lay Dying fans... stupid metalcore stuff. But there's also some good grindcore

I live in Wisconsin, and the rural areas don't have much going on for them, but the bigger cities, Milwaukee especially have a pretty decent scene going on. The Rave(concert venue) is amazing, and always seems to line up great shows.

Yeah, Maryland is a shithole. When I lived there it was pretty much the same thing, "metalheads" were people who listened to slipknot and lamb of god.

Agreed, there are many good venues both in Chicago and in the surrounding suburbs. Pearl Room, Reggie's, House of Blues has some pretty good concerts here and there.

Where I live, metal is somewhat popular, but not many of the people know the underground stuff. I seem to be the only one into the more extreme side of metal around here.

Houston, Chicago, and San Fransisco seem to be the biggest Metal hubs in the US. Fuck, here in Reno it sucks though. We have one 'true' Metal band here, and shitload of Hardcore and Punk bands.

New York is alright. While there are the typical deathcore/metalcore/nu-metal kids there are actually a few metalheads who know their shit. It's just that, we're too spread apart across the 5 boroughs as well as the outer parts of NY.

I know about >15 metalheads from my borough (queens), a few from Manhattan and about 2 from Brooklyn. That's it. Then there's the usual show-goers you see at shows.

The New Orleans scene isn't bad at all, if you avoid the all age scene.

The Denver/Colorado Springs area is pretty good, alot of underground bands that are doing well, especially with BM. There are bands like Frozen Eternity, Niddhog, And Hell Followed and Acheronian Dirge that are doing great, but then of course you have the obvious death/metal/grindcore bands that are doing shit.

But here in Pueblo where I live, there is rarely any metalheads. Personally, I know 4 that know their stuff. The only bands worthy are checking out are Spoken In Fire and Commerce of Cadavers, who both play DM. Other than that, the scene and fans here are shit.

not sure if you guys just don't have the same luck, but surprisingly up in new england there's plenty of us. I know about 20-30 REAL metal heads up here, by real i mean those who actually listen to real metal and not bands like cradle of filth, job for a cowboy, etc. I wouldn't say the "scene" is really existent whatsoever, but upon meeting each other, there's plenty of metal heads out there to hang out with in the area.

Just need to talk with whoever you can, in some cases every kid you see with an iron maiden or exodus t-shirt. While not always successful, it would seem that some of the people I hang out with came to meet all of us through one guy seeing them wearing an iron maiden shirt while working, or how my fiance, i got introduced to her from someone who met her at a mall wearing a megadeth shirt.

Dude what the hell are you talking about with 'Probably the shittiest area in MD'? Have you been west up to the mountains? Do you know Oakland? Come to my town and learn what a shitty scene is. There is no doubt in my mind Oakland is for fact the shittiest metal town in MD.

I know about 3 metalheads in my school. 1 of them is annoying, 1 of them basically never talks and is a boring as hell kid, and the other mostly hangs out with fucking emo kids (even though he always used to claim he hated those kinds of people).

I think the Atlanta scene is pretty ok. I've only been up there once.. but there are some pretty good bands from there. Around my city.. eh.. deathcore/hardcore.. pretty exclusively. Speaking of which, GWAR is coming to Atlanta this Friday.

And then there those that hang at Duffs Bklyn that have been around since the 80's, yet there seems to be quite a few younger people hanging in the scene now.

NYC in the mid-late 80's was great though.

I agree

I am from Chicago, but go to school in central Illinois (UIUC) where the "metal scene" is kinda weak, though there do seem to be a decent amount of people who like some sort of metal.

Chicago does have some nice venues too and most tours come through the city (or the Pearl Room) which is nice. Also Metal Haven is like a holy site, a metal place of pilgrimage.

I'm moving to Ulster County next month, so you'll have 1 more to add to that "hardly" and re-word it to "a few"

Yea, the Chicago area is pretty good. Metal Haven is an awesome store.

I live in Central Illinois and the metal scene here is just that, 'scene'.

Tons of metalcore kids who think they're kvlt because they know who Cryptopsy is.

I fucking hate this area, but I'm sure it's going to be like that in any moderate size town.
