Just got the Cynic Newsletter, they are touring with Meshuggah and The Faceless:

* 02/01/09 House of Blues - Anaheim, CA
* 02/02/09 House of Blues - San Diego, CA
* 02/03/09 House of Blues - Hollywood, CA
* 02/04/09 Slim's - San Francisco, CA
* 02/06/09 El Corazón - Seattle, WA
* 02/07/09 Hawthorne Theatre - Portland, OR
* 02/08/09 Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver, BC - CANADA
* 02/09/09 Knitting Factory - Spokane, WA
* 02/11/09 Gothic Theatre - Englewood, CO
* 02/13/09 Station 4 - St. Paul, MN
* 02/15/09 House Of Blues - Chicago, IL
* 02/17/09 Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto, ON - CANADA
* 02/18/09 Club Soda - Montreal, QC - CANADA
* 02/19/09 TBA - New York, NY
* 02/20/09 Recher Theatre - Towson, MD

At least 2 more dates will be announced soon.

I'm a little disappointed.
1. From the looks of things, they are not coming to Texas.
2. Not a fan of the Faceless. I hope the -core kiddies don't ruin the show, which they seem quite proficient at.

Anyone planning on going?

They're coming to Portland? Fantastic!

But, damn, do great bands need god-awful support for equilibrium, or something?

The only reason I'd go to that would be for Cynic.

Going to the Portland show for Cynic. That is one tour shirt I need (as long as it is a Cynic shirt without those other two on it).

yeah, that pisses me off that this is coming nowhere near TX. Oh well, I may take a trip to either the Seattle, WA date or Chicago, IL date. Decisions, decisions.

I've seen these guys before and they put on a great show. Especially the new material is worth the listen. And, yes, the -core kidz just took up all the space in the front during their show... not really doing anything, but making sure their stupid hair looks all 'scene.' Truly pathetic. IMO, the new Faceless album is a disgraceful boot to the face of the '-core scene.'

anyway, good lineup either way. I wonder how Cynic would be live? Interesting band.

Meshuggah of course. They're the popular one.

I'll probably go, seeing as the venue is less than ten minutes away if you're walking.

I might be able to make the San Fransisco show. I've seen The Faceless before at Summer Slaughter, and Cynic would be a real treat.

Actually, is Portland closer than San Fransisco from Reno?

I'll be going to the NY show. Meshuggah's good, but Cynic should really be headlining this. A 90 minute Cynic set would be amazing, since that's all the time they really need to play all of their studio material.
The Faceless...gross.

Wasn't sure I'd get to see Cynic in the States, guess I was wrong. I'll need to find time to get to Chicago, at least I know tickets won't be a problem. I should actually try to get interviews for that show...

Focused and Traced In Air together in their entirety are only 70 minutes. I can't imagine Cynic not being able to play the majority of what they've released even if they only got an hour slot for supporting. Personally, I'd be happy with just a complete playing of Traced In Air, and that would easily fit in a supporting set list.

As for The Faceless, seen them once before and they sounded fine then. Heard Planetary Duality and I liked that album, so I can't imagine it being a disaster. Plus, even if their are scene kids, it's not like they'll be doing ANYTHING during the Cynic set. I'm not against dancing, but if they can somehow pull it off during Cynic......Well.......I'll be impressed.

Meshuggah...Not sure I could listen to a full playset. I can barely listen to entire albums, as single songs on shuffle or a playlist they're cool...But for 90 minutes? I don't know...

They should jam a show on Valentine's Day at The Rave in Milwaukee...It's on the way to Chicago and it's not like Meshuggah haven't been there in the past either.

EDIT: GOGO GADGET AWESOME

http://www.therave.com/concert_details.asp?id=3823

=) Best concerts I've ever seen are on Valentine's Day for some reason.

I am really interested in going to the Toronto showing!!! It's too bad they scheduled the Soilwork show on the same night... I would have liked to see both :(

Even with Swallow the Sun, Soilwork can't sway me to see their show, I mean, they are up against Cynic, c'mon!!

Meshuggah is alright, and The Faceless aren't the worst tech death band I've heard...

Can't wait for this. I plan on going to the Towson, MD show at Recher Theatre.

I really like all bands so I can't complain about this tour lineup. I've seen The Faceless live 3x already, and they put on a great show. I haven't seen either Meshuggah or Cynic live before. I hope Cynic get at least 45 minutes to play since they're not headlining. Should be a very transcending experience. Finally, I plan on giving all control of my bodily functions to Meshuggah's pounding riffage.

This just might be the most headache-inducing tour in history. Cynic and Meshuggah in one show.

Yeah, it's a shame too. Cynic are one of my favorite bands.
Maybe next time!

I'm going to have to check out both Meshuggah and The Faceless before I go to this. Thus far, I've only heard Obzen. Which I was unimpressed with for the most part. I have seen The Faceless live at the Summer Slaughter, and I enjoyed their performance. I will download Planetary Duality, but I still do not know what Meshuggah album I should look into first. Not quite a most important dilemma, but it remains significant enough to warrant my thoughts.
This show will also be an excellent opportunity for me to finally purchase Traced In Air.
Edited for spelling mistakes.
Edit 2: I will listen to nothing by Meshuggah. :lol:

I will do all I can to make it to the SF show, only for Cynic! Hopefully Meshuggah is last, so I can watch all of Cynic and leave early, it being a school night and all (I'm lame I know).

YES.

Chicago.

I am there. I already saw Meshuggah with Ministry on the farewell tour, but hopefully this time they'll play a bit more off Obzen (and less off Nothing). Cynic? Yes please.

Wonderful.. yet another damn Chicago show. Why can't bands hit up St. Louis or Mokena?

I want to see Cynic bad, but I'm not paying for Meshuggah or that other stupid band. No fucking way-- I hate the other two with a passion.

Sorry Paul and Sean... you are my Gods, but you picked terrible tour-bands.

Fuck I'm irritated now.

When I saw the list of dates, I realized that there wasn't going to be any way that I could see them... and then that Rave date in Milwaukee showed up, which would work perfectly. However, one of the main reasons why I would want to see Cynic has always been to see Sean Malone in action. I'm sure that the live bassist that they have filling in for him is also very talented, but whatever way you look at it, he's still not Sean Malone. Now driving two and a half hours to see Cynic lacking my favorite member, Meshuggah (who I wouldn't mind seeing, but am not particularly enthused about), and some pseudo tech-death band who, according to what others have said in this thread, "aren't that bad" doesn't seem quite as appealing as it did in the first place.

Does anyone have any information about why Sean Malone stopped playing live with them?

The bit about The Faceless near the end about not being "that bad" live, is actually quite true. I absolutely hate the new -core movement, but they were actually one of the highlights at this year's Summer Slaughter, since Kataklysm and Aborted canceled the show that I went to... :fuck:
