this has been thrown around quite alot and most people say they aren't even though the archives decided that it is considered nu metal. I mean, they don't sound anything like Avenged Sevenfold, or Slipknot and that kind of fucking shit. System of a Down has metal influences and honestly i'd put them as progressive metal. Any statements to the contrary?

Avant garde modern rock I would say. Just because you have distorted guitars and somewhat fast drumming you aren't automatically a metal band.

Done to death. What's done is done, just take it and accept it.

nu metal has metal influences too. Hence the name.

Having metal influences doesn't necessarily qualify you for the archives.

I wouldn't say purely "nu-metal" because their creative process and talent doesn't fit the typical mold of a group like Korn who embody nu-metal... or Limp Bizkit. They might have similar influences to other nu-metal bands, but the way they play their music is different and not nu-metal. I'd say at most, they are avant-garde rock because they have a sound that oftenwise can't be categorized into one distinct genre.

But definitely not progressive metal.

But nu metal isn't metal.

When did anyone claim otherwise?

I would classify them in the rock category.
