Has anyone else heard this band? Or am I the only one among the people I know who has?

I love the combination of opera, Medieval folk strings, and brutal death metal. If you haven't heard this band, give the song 'Of a Might Divine' a chance. It's the song that got me into 'em!

I'm pretty sure that it is safe to say.. just about everyone on this site knows about Haggard.

I was just curious. All of the metalhead friends of mine have never heard of 'em. They claim to listen to all kinds of metal, but when I bring up Haggard to them, they scratch their heads. Then again, come to think about it, the metal scene in this particular area is pretty dead. >.<

Yea, I hear ya there. I'm the only one that knows a spit about Metal beyond the Hot Topic selection in my neck of the woods.

I've only heard of them but was uninterested, but reading your description has intrigued me. I'm checking out this Of a Might Divine song.

Ugh, sometimes I feel so alone when it comes to metal in this area. We get people who know some stuff, but for the most part, it's a lot of -core kids. Sometimes you get lucky and find someone around who is interested in branching out from the CD's at Hot Topic, but it's pretty rare.

It's about 2:46 into the song, but that first growl is insane. That got me hook, line and sinker.

The only good thing to come out of Hot Topic is cheap video game merchandise. That said, the cheap video game merchandise is more-often-than-naught given their disgusting tinge of -core appearance by giving it that whole sandblasted paint look or pasting Peach infront of a splattered image of pink flowers and skulls.

I want a chain chomp keychain from there. That's all I've found that I'd enjoy keeping.

That's just to appeal to the pseudo-nerdy scene kids.

I have found some good CDs in there (i.e. Amon Amarth's Once Sent From A Golden Hall and Death's Leprosy and Scream Bloody Gore) and a gauntlet... but the gauntlet was alittle cheesy seeing that it had this small section the pointed out in the middle that rode up on top of the hand, which, in turn, made it almost impossible to move your hand in any upward motion.

Back on the Haggard topic, their new album is really really good. I need to get around to ordering it, plus a couple of their back catalog, in the near future.

Well, look at the band Folkearth and Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Van Helsing's Curse. Those are three more bands that have an insane amount of members that doesn't suck.

Mmmm.. Trans-Siberian.. Wait, isn't Van Helsing's Curse just Dee Snyder producing a Halloween themed CD, played in Halloween Scene stores in the malls every October?

And don't forget Phlebotomized!

Phlebotomized had a respectably small amount of members for what they were. If they were playing regular death metal, maybe it would have been overkill. But for death metal with some violin and keyboards? That number seems regular to me.

Well yeah, I'm just pointing out that they have comparatively more members than usual. Although nothing next to the likes of Haggard and TSO.

It's actually a serious band. He takes them out on tour every year during October in support of the Halloween season. The album that they released is actually very very good. Much along the lines of what TSO does, but in a more "Gothic" sense? To me, they are the Gothic equivalent of Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Also, Dee Snider does some narration on the actual album itself, but no singing or anything like that.

This newer album of Haggard's is really good. A bit on the slower side, but I'm liking it.

Yea, it is, but it also has more of an operatic side to it. That is what I like most about from what I have heard off of it. In a way, it reminds me a little bit of Therion. Not the music, per se, but more along the lines of the choir ensembles.

I was never a big Therion fan. Too slow for me, really. I guess it's alright when it comes to the folky sounds, and I did like the album they did based on the Norse mythology(The name escapes me right now). Something about Therion was just too slow for me, and I never caught on.

Yeah I found those same CDs at the nearest Hot Topic here too. Which is great, because there aren't any decent music stores where I live. I usually have to wait until I go back to my hometown to get anything good.

As for Haggard, I have heard of them but never heard them. I keep meaning to check them out. Anyone have any recommendations for where to start?

Awaking the Centuries, from what I can remember.
Been years since I last listened to Haggard...

Eppur Si Muove is my favourite, good place to start.

Tales of Ithiria is pretty good, probably their best (doesn't feel like an addendum to Awaking the Centuries, like Eppur si Muove), even though they forsake even more the metal influence.

Eppur Si Muove is my favorite, and it has the song 'Of a Might Divine' which first got me into them. I'd check out that one, then Awaken the Centuries.

Do they ever tour? I know they toured in Mexico, but that's all I've heard of them. They are a band I wanna see live so bad, I'd do anything for it.

I beg to differ.

Edit: Haggard? I have been meaning to try a full length, although I didn't like the one song I heard before.
