I'm a big fan of Wrest in both his Leviathan and Lurker of Chalice guises, but unusually I believe his best work culminates in the bookends of the Lurker of Chalice self titled LP, the untitled introduction and the epic closer 'Fastened to the Five Points'. Both tracks share a common motif, that unbelievably creepy yet surprisingly emotional riff that appears in both and makes its way though several key changes and modulations. It's amazing imo, albeit entirely different to the rest of the album. Can anyone recommend me some stuff similar to these two tracks? I'm not sure whether one would call it blackened doom metal, or doomish black metal, or just some idiosyncratic hybrid of both. But it is the epic feel of the tracks, the funeral doom-esque rhythm and, most importantly, the haunting beauty and surprisingly melodic feel thereof that I love and that I am looking for more similar to. So any recs? Much appreciated!

I believe this belongs in either the black metal help thread or in the doom metal help thread:

Aye it does, i went through this search last year as well. From all my asking and searching i wasn't able to find anyhting as good as LoC. I myself am a huge fan of Wrest and i found a couple of things that might be to your liking.

Caina. Check out the first couple of tracks of the latest album. It's more folkish/ post rock influenced, not as dark or creepy as LoC, but good none the less. Go with his last album (the first 3 tracks are damn good) and Mourner. It's a mixed bag and you won't like everything, so pick and choose.

Unfortunately i haven't found anything as complex and multi-faceted as LoC, it's really unfortunate that there aren't more similar bands, but at the same time it makes LoC all the more better.

Herbst is another more folkish, neo-folkish band that might appeal to you. It lacks the disortiented and dark foreboding that LoC has, but it might appeal to you none the less.

Lyrinx solid depressing doom/black metal. That's all it is, but might be of some interest.

If you find anyhting, please let me know; i'm in the same boat as you.
