It caught me off-guard... I understand the existence of Cynic/Opeth/Origin fanboys, but I was not aware that anyone actually gave a damn about Amon Amarth beyond "decent band if you're not into real death metal" |

That's lower than Metallica. Fucks. |

Only one of my entries made the list, but I kind of expected that. Although I'm a little surprised that no one else voted for the new Grand Belial's Key, I thought there were some fans here. Also more people need to listen to Hellacaust. |

I must say that I was surprised by this: MikeyC wrote: 119. 29 Bloodbath – The Fathomless Mastery <0-0-0-0-0-1-1-1-0-1>
I would've thought it'd rate higher, personally. I'm not too keen on Bloodbath myself, but the album was somewhat praised around here. |

I don't understand what you mean. I don't see how my sadness about Dragonforce not doing better and the prevalence of my complaints could be related. Please explain. |

Just saying that you complain and say that albums like Amon Amarth's is gay while praising Dragonforce. Anyway, if you like DF it's your thing and I hope you enjoy them, it's just the overall mass complaining which follows these surveys. |

I mean, Amon Amarth's new album was good, but it sure as hell wasn't the best album of 2008, or even runner up. I'm glad to see Origin's Antithesis up at 2, but for me the best was Nachtmystium's last effort. Oh well... |

That's reasonable. But poor Dragonforce are getting kicked while they're down. At least Amon Amarth actually won! In fact, I think things get pretty kvlt pretty fast as you go down the list. Everybody can complain about how popular Band X that they don't like shouldn't be so high, but there's a good amount of obscure stuff that made a decent showing. |

Top 10 wasn't surprising at all, though I thought that Toxic Holocaust would rank just a bit higher. |

This is an awesome job on the survey MikeyC. Apparently I was the last one to vote. I thought this was gonna be a top 5 thing, but it wasn't, so I had to add 5 more albums to my list. The last 5 albums I put on there I just randomly thought of & placed. I wasn't really surprised by the results. I thought either Cynic or Opeth would claim the number one spot, but Amon Amarth seems to get a lot of love here (I love 'em too). |

Damn, was out of town while this was going on. Fucking Amon Amarth won it, they're only average most of the time, and TOTTG was subpar from them. Still, I'd rather them win than Opeth. I also fail to see the appeal of Zero Hour, they sound like your average "we play power chords then complex solos" prog band. |

Thanks for the effort Mikey! I was surprised at the lack of love for Horna and Behexen this year! Mikey I think there might be a mistake with Horna-Sanojesi Aarelle listed as a one-vote album. |

Yes thanks for the efforts, MikeyC. Don't mind the dickbags who only know how to complain. This was a POLL, not one person's opinion. Obviously those who voted believed their lists should have been the definitive top 10 list, but that's just not going to happen. Sure, I was disappointed to see some of those names on the list and that I was the only one that voted for Domkirke, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. At the end of the day, maybe someone takes a look at my list and decides to check out what I consider to be a top-notch release from last year. That being said, I'm really looking forward to checking out a few of these bands so I can increase my collection (as if I wasn't already doing an excellent job of decimating my bank account). |

Wow, I suck. Don't worry, we can always do a "Worst of 2008" list and it'll get lots of votes! |

I was thinking Misery Index - Traitors would of atleast made the 10 Spot. Out of all the '08 albums, that 1 was in my c-d player the most. |

That album was fucking awful. There wasn't a good riff on the whole damn thing. I was so pissed off when I heard that album I had to go write a review, and I don't even really write reviews. |

That was a great album, I prefer Worms... but I like how the symphonic elements are more prevalent, I just wish that the songs were as memorable. |

top 10 is pretty gay. My vote for Album of the year would be TAP's Weighing Souls with Sand, Album of the year for the second year running. Regarding my survey: yes, I'll have it done soon-ish, but unlike mikey here I've got, y'know, more interesting things to do. I'll be crunching most of the numbers tonight, though. |

'Tis a shame, but hopefully I'll be around for the next one. |

This is not the outcome I was expecting.. I thought Amon Amarth, Cynic and Opeth would be rated lower than this. And seeing Motörhead not in the top 10..

Can someone call me when the Amon Amarth backlash starts. I like the band, great melodeath, but they are not Satan's gift to metal. Over the years they have dumbed down their act to appeal to the shitty Bodom loving market, and that album is so fucking simplistic its a joke. Pop-melodeath. Viking or no viking. |

The band is notorious for an unchanging sound. It's hard to dumb down to a Bodom-loving market if you don't change your sound is it not? This backlash is so shallow it's ridiculous. |
