i was thinking about this the other day-
i wear band shirts, i have quite a few, yet i like to dress nice as well and wear hollister, abercrombie, express, etc when i go out or just to look presentable.
now my question is- if i were to wear a hollister polo, khaki shorts, and flip flops to say, a suffocation show- would i be ostracized? in my opinion, the look is almost everything, especially at a metal show. people would give me looks like i was crazy and it'd probably stir up a lot of hate, but who's to say that i dont have every suffocation album and every demo they ever released on cassette?
do you think the clothing you wear plays a part in people's thoughts of you in the metal community? think about it- someone wearing something from hollister or abercrombie at a metal show. many would look at them, call them a fag or a poser, but that person could have the largest collection of extensive black/death/power/thrash/whatever metal in the state- does clothing matter? especially at a show or something?

I believe we had a thread that discussed that awhile back... and no. Clothing has absolutely nothing to do with liking Metal or not. People who associate fashion with metal are no better than the little Hot Topic sceensters.

He's actually talking about a band that associates everything that they do with their clothes.

Apparently not... In any case, I don't make a huge attempt to "look metal."

Technically speaking, no it doesn't matter. Wear whatever you damn well please.
Realistically speaking, people will undoubtedly make negative assumptions if you show up to a Suffocation show in a Hollister shirt. However, I think most rational people would be willing to put aside their assumptions if you proved to be knowledgeable and interesting enough and not just some random frat guy who strutted in to get drunk and pick a fight.
