I found one at a thrift store for $5 once. I wouldn't expect to find one on the interwebs for cheap.

I just finished updating my vest. Between the numerous drafts over the years, only two patches on the front and all the on the back remain the same from my original set.

Very nice vest, man! I love the two backpatches, good job. Cool pins and choice of bands as well, but there's still some space on the shoulder, will you put something there?

Thanks, I do have a couple of patches from Darkthrone, Unanimated, and Necrophagia to go on, so it's just a matter time until the shoulder area gets patched.

Here's mine from the front, still a work in progress. Not too sure what to go with next patch wise, I'm thinking perhaps a Hail of Bullets one, and I'll keep my eye out for some others. I plan on painting a big Mjolnir below the Bathory logo on the back, when I've got the time.

Hails! This is my first post.

I have been subconsciously headed for this moment for many moons now. . . But after seeing this thread, and reading THE ENTIRE THING through without stopping, I became possessed. I just finished ordering my very own black denim jacket, and I will soon begin constructing my first kutte. I have been collecting patches that I get with vinyls, etc. and I have even bought one or two that I thought were really cool (Urfaust patches), with no prior intent of putting them on a vest. . . Or, at least I thought!

This thread is one of the best things I have ever seen on the internet, and I am very glad to be able to add my two cents. I am fucking stoked to get started, and my vest can't get here soon enough. Speaking of which, I have seen the question asked countless times throughout the thread: "Where do I get a black denim vest for cheap?"

There is a link to an internet only Lee denim vest, for $45. Not neccessarily dirt cheap, but definitely not expensive, and MUCH cheaper than pretty much all of the other vests you will find on the internet. Oh, did I mention it is available in black?

I look forward to sharing my vest, and I can't wait to see more of everyone else's pics. Thanks everyone.

What's the trick to picking a back patch? Is it more about looks, or is that a spot reserved for a particular favorite band or album?

Isn't that obvious? You pick the best looking one among your long-standing favourites. I have Dawn of Possession, my favourite album cover of all time, and if not my absolute favourite album, it's well in the top ten.

Just pick the worst of everything and sew them directly over your skin

Thanks :)

This is the first of two I am doing. My second one is going to be a vest, but it's a special project I am doing end of june. What I am going to do is get a jacket and turn it into a vest, or get a vest, and give it a ride the lightning back patch. Then when I go to orion fest in june I am going to pick up a bunch of pins and patches from the vendors that come (obviously buttons and patches of the bands that perform) and put them on to make the vest a wearable memory of the first annual orion fest. I might grab a few patches online after the fact as well in the event i can't find everything I am looking for.

EDIT: Alright I need to ask. What's the trick to making sewing patches as easy as possible. I feel like constantly pricking my finger is the wrong way to do it. Is there a secret to it or is it one of those "hard at first easy with practice" things

If a patch has a shiny, plastic-like back, does that mean it's an iron-on one? Does anyone have any experience with iron-on patches, and do they stay on well? I feel I should know this, but all of the ones I've ever put on my jacket until now have been sewn.

Every patch I have used so far is an iron on. What I have learned is if you plan to ever wash the thing, put it in a dryer, or really wear it in general, after you iron it on take a needle and thread and sew it on, that way even if it does start to come off it is still secured.

Cool - I was definitely thinking of sewing it to be sure.

I tried sewing them on freehand because someone had told me it's better to just sew em, but at least when you iron them on first you can sew them without having to hold them in place. If back patches don't come in an iron on format I may wind up having my hands full at some point in the near future lol

You can of course use pin needles to hold the patches in place...

In theory. You haven't seen me attempting to sew something that's stationary and ironed on. Something tells me pins would lead to some kind of a nightmare for me hahaha

I admit I passed that pain in the ass Iron Maiden Killers patch off to my mom to do but outside of that I generally like to sew them myself so the jacket really feels like my project.

That makes two upside down Possessed patches within this thread. Two too many :nono:. That's why it's best to sew it yourself.

Here's my updated vest:
Image
Image

The buttons on the pocket flap are Southern Lord Records, Strangeland Records (RIP), Decibel Magazine, Trap Them, Acephalix, and Withered. Below them are All Pigs Must Die and Absu. Below the Suffocation patch is Stormcrow.

I have room for 2-3 more patches, but it's pretty much complete.

This thread inspired me to make my own vest. A few things I learned in the process: patches shift around while you sew them, so pin them in advance. Also, buy or make a thimble, or you'll be stabbing yourself with the back of that needle over and over again.

Also, I have a size medium black denim cut-off vest that ended up being too big for me, so I posted that on ebay if anyone's interested. I know a few people mentioned having trouble finding one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251046407106#ht_500wt_1022

Anyone know where I might be able to find a fairly inexpensive black denim vest? (or jacket, cause I could just cut off the sleeves) I've looked on ebay and google, but haven't really found anything inexpensive.

Edit: just noticed someone asked the same question on the last page, so sorry for the repeat question.
