Just make sure to tell them the measures you want the patches to be. My OTWATM and Regurgitate patches turned out to be pretty small..

Starting to put patches onto the back of mine, after some consideration;

Also decided to sew a loop into the back to hang it up with - sometimes the small details are the most satisfying to construct;

I have a question. I have two vests, the first one I made is pretty much perfect now, it fits and have just enough patches and it's perfectly "floppy" so to speak. Anyway, my last one, which isn't done yet but almost, I've been wearing and using it for quite some time, but it's still stiff as fuck. Does anyone have any advice on how to make it more floppy besides wearing it?

don't just wear it, sleep in it... and let it get thoroughly, disgustingly soaked in bodily fluids, too.

Please tell me that Panopticon thing at the bottom is a patch and not just cut off a T-shirt! (Which is what I'm assuming?)

It's a patch, it came with the "...on the Subject of Mortality" box set.

Just giving an update on my vests...

Here's the first vest I started putting together, just about complete just need to add a few more patches and maybe spicks/studs:

And heres the vest I'm currently working on. I have most of the patches to fill it just need to get sewing. (This vest is more focused on black/death metal)

Ugh, I would buy so many custom patches if I had the money...
About how much did the custom patches cost in total?

About 32-34€, so it's not so bad, but then again, nothing is if you have the money..

I'm looking into this and I guess I'll have to figure this out with the vendor, but I wonder how big of an image file he needs of a logo to make it work for a regular patch size (I took note of your previous recommendation), sometimes rescaling makes things fuzzy, and trying to trace some very detailed ones (we're not talking goregrind-logo intricate, but close in some cases...) with graphics software I'm losing a lot of the linework. To be continued...

Oh I see, that still sucks for me haha. I was hoping it was a patch because then I could buy it, as opposed buying a t-shirt and cutting it up which I wouldn't want to do just for a small part of it. But since it's from a box set still no luck of getting one.

Thanks man, been trying to get patches of every band I like, metal or not. My first vest was full-on metal though.

Did you buy it new or second-hand? Did you wash it before you started wearing it? In my experience, washing denim will make it softer much quicker than simply wearing it. And if it was a brand new, never washed before jacket, then I'm afraid you'll just have to be patient now that you've sewn patches on it. (If I understood this entire thread properly, patches generally don't like washing machines, right?)

I think I speak for a few people when I say I'm fucking terrified of what will happen if I try. I'd probably handwash it in lukewarm water if I had to do something to it, but as it is, I put it on the radiator every now and again to try and vaporize the un-cleanness from it.

if you are terrible at sewing, or you have a bunch of frazzled canvas patches you didn't fold under before sewing, there's a possibility of them coming loose.

Embroidered patches are durable though... I have gotten cat piss on my jacket more than once, and all my patches survived washing (hand-painted acrylic ones have needed touching up, but that's basically the worst of it, and acrylic on cloth tends to crack anyway. Washing simply sped up the process).

I think one thread might've come loose on an embroidered patch from washing, but it hasn't really messed it up.
nothing lasts forever anyway, though.

May I ask, if someone here could refer me to a person who can customize a "printed colored backpatch". Send PM for his or the store's details. Thanks!

Well, I wasn't much into the patches and vest stuff, but since some time I've seen pretty cool material and decided to get jacket and put some patches on it.

I have a 'classic' leather jacket (my cat think it's HIS jacket, but anyway):

Image

My wife also has a couple of jackets so we bought some patches for both. Mine's are the black metal ones and hers are the death metal ones:

My Samael - Worship Him backpatch arrived the other day. The thing is fucking huge, and I am going to replace my current backpatch with it, but it means seven other patches will have to be removed and repositioned. I am glad I have no life so I have the time to do these things.

Yeah... sewing can be a bitch, especially if it's embroidered. There's two patches on my vest that are now being held together by buttons because I'm too lazy to sew them back on :lol:

I hate those patches where one corner has a big glob of glue on the backside. Those fuckers are monster hard to sew on by hand!

Speaking of tricky sewing... what do you guys do when putting a patch over a pocket? Is it a futile endeavor to try to keep the pocket functional, do you just sew right through them? Sorry if this was answered earlier in the thread, I'm still catching up...
