Bolt Thrower - Celestial Sanctuary

Gotta say I get why people revere them so much. There's such care put into every riff and part of the music. These songs are viciously unpretentious and just win you over based on the sheer quality of what's going on. Very high quality shit.

Realm - Endless War

This CD finally got here. Also a very good album - techy and aggressive all at once without seeming like it's high brow. High energy careening madness. Great guitar and bass.

Took me a while to get into Bolt Thrower, but nowadays they're one of my death metal bands I'm easily in the mood for.

Could never get into these guys...I'd rather listen to some Artillery, Toxik or Coroner (the best of the tech thrash realm).

NP: On Thorns I Lay - The Blue Dream

Mediterranean death metal that's perfect for the hot summer.

Suffocation - As Grace Descends
I really like Pinnacle of Bedlam. This songs a bit more thrashy than they usually are, I dig it a lot.

I'd only heard Those Once Loyal and Realm of Chaos, and that was a long time ago. Felt it was time to try em more honestly.

I can dig Realm. It's these chunky guitars and melodious leads and the power metallish vocals. Good combo. I think Watchtower is still my favorite.

Sweet Oblivion - Another Change

Geoff Tate-led project... nice rocking guitars and Tate even sounds good. Not bad at all.

Shit, totally forgot about this band.

NP: Entombed - Sentenced to Death

Raw-as-hell Swedish death metal that owes a lot to Autopsy. Killer stuff.

StarGazer - Old Tea

I've been infatuated with this style of death metal lately. Technical, labyrinth-esque guitarwork that utilizes melody to enhance the themes of dark mysticism, not to mention some of the best bass playing the genre has to offer.

I wish their albums weren't so hard to find though :(

Depressive Age - First Depression

Finally giving this a whirl. Pretty good so far. Moody tech-thrash with nice guitarwork. Not really sure who to compare this to.

Blood Ceremony - Hop Toad

Love this band, cathcy and a great ''summer feeling'' to it.
Female vocals are lovely....!

Cannibal Corpse - She Was Asking For It.

Another strong cut off maybe their best. I would have liked to hear it with Corpsegrinder on it though. Barnes was already sounding pretty weak at this point.

Depressive Age - Lying in Wait

This album seems more prog than thrash so far. I'm enjoying what I'm hearing so far, so I'll have to make a point of at least getting their first 2 albums.

Hypocrisy - Penetralia

Hypocrisy weren't breaking any new ground on their debut but it's a solid start to their discography.

Sunrise- Forgotten Secrets

This song is way better than "All this Time"

Astral - Filicetum Lunare

This Czech band's 2nd album is pretty unique-sounding alloy of Root and Therion. If you can stand those programmed drums...

Gorguts - The Carnal State

Just some pleasant early morning stuff here.

OlympicSharpshooter's review is great, with some excellent ways to describe this...

On the near-ten minute dirge-to-end-all-dirges Clouded, you feel like you're trudging slowly through a steel foundry while God yells at you.

The entire album kicks ass, way ahead of its time too

StarGazer - The Scream That Tore The Sky

How is Damon Good not talked about more when it comes to awesome bass players in black/death metal? The technical play and melodic compositions cut right through the otherwise dark and bestial nature of this album. I can see why some of the newer death metal bands like VoidCeremony and Aenigmatum are taking influence from these guys, definitely check this album out if you want a unique take on black/death metal!

StarGazer is another I gotta check out, they had some members in Cauldron Black Ram I believe, who I always dig.

Bolt Thrower - Through the Eye of Terror

Massive gut punching heaviness.

Carcass - Corporeal Jigsore Quandry

Thought about running through the entire Maryland Deathfest 2022 Lineup, starting with this death metal classic. Makes me wonder what they would've sounded like if they had stuck with this style instead of the melodic death metal/death n' roll style they would later adopt.

The Project Hate MCMXCIX - Armageddon March Eternal (Symphonies Of Slit Wrists)

Not sure why I didn't get this back in the 00s. Oh well, better late than never.

Raven - In The Name Of The Lord

High energy riffing and no tattoos.Firm handshakes and a metal band Casio digital watch will do just fine for the back cover.

Darkthrone - Wake Of The Awakened

Lost count now on how many plays.8 or 9 now i think.
It was this track that initially threw me off on side one and after putting the time in..ok maybe a few more. :-D

Bolt Thrower - Embers

The IVth Crusade is definitely yet another album that has metal classic written all over it that I never heard until very recently.

Martyr - Feast of Vermin

Wildly jagged and eclectic music, but the care behind it ties everything together.

Depraved - BMX Boys

Apparently we boarded up our windows and barred our doors but i never did.
I always stopped and asked questions.
It was those skooter/froot booters i never had time for.

Dismember - Dismembered

One of the first examples of melody used in death metal, especially with the tasty solo section at the beginning. And of course there's the signature chainsaw guitar tone. Absolutely crushing.

Hypocrisy - When The Candle Fades

Much different approach to melodic death metal when compared to the other Swedish bands of the time. I really enjoy the moody atmosphere that this song invokes.

Power - Turned On

Lovin this album from these Aussie rockers. Souped up high energy rock that'll appeal to fans of the punkier Motorhead end of the NWOBHM spectrum! I bet they kick ass live too.

Classic death metal tune, you can tell Celtic Frost were a huge influence here.

Tyrant - Too Late To Pray

Classic cult 80s true metal album. File it next to Battle Cry, King Of The Dead and Crystal Logic. The Shadow Kingdom Records reissue of this is top notch.

One of the best grindcore songs of all time for sure!

Bloodbath - Eaten

Disgustingly heavy, the Tatgren material is easily Bloodbath's best work
