Cave of Swimmers - Looking Glass

This album is more hit-or-miss than I was hoping it'd be, but the stuff that hits is really fucking good.

Spawn of Possession - Incurso

I appreciate the brutality but this shit is getting old really fast. I don’t know what people find in this band.

Shadow of Intent - Of Fury

Have not listened to their newest album yet, but this single intrigues me. Significantly more melodic than all their previous stuff.

Xandria - Queen of Hearts Reborn

I remember thinking "Theater of Dimensions" was one of the best modern day symphonic metal albums when it came out in 2017. I still think it's pretty damn good.
They're gearing up to release new stuff and all I can say is I hope they treat their new singer right this time.

They toned down the deathcore aspects of their older work and went for a symphonic melodeath sound that reminds me of Septicflesh at times (Ben Duerr's deeper growls especially).
It works quite well, imo.

I picked up on that after listening to another song from the album. Everything I've listened to off of it so far (all of, like four songs) has trended more in that direction.

Toadliquor - Gnaw

Heavy. As. Fuck. This band deserves a lot more attention than they get.

The Black Dahlia Murder - Deathmask Divine

One of their best songs.

Metallica - Fuel

I've always said Reload was a good hard rock album and I prefer it over Load.

Goreaphobia - Rust Worms & the Noxious Fevers They Bring

A now split-up band composed of vets of the scene playing old-school death metal. Blood Storm, Incantation and Immolation are just some of the metal lineage that members of the Goreaphobia possess.

Mammoth Grinder - Superior Firepower

The beat of this song is quite odd for a metal song. It's not a blast beat nor a polka beat but it's really catchy and I could say it drives the entire song.

The Skull - For Those Which Are Asleep
Basically everything Eric Wagner worked on the past 10-15 years of his life is amazing.....practically on par with the Trouble classics.
Great voice, to be sure, but he surrounded himself with musicians who knew how to write a kick ass doomy metal tune.

Hecate Enthroned - Dark Requiems... and Unsilent Massacre

There's COF's Cruelty and the Beast and then there's this, which I love equally.

Jorn Lande & Trond Holter - Swing of Death

This is one of the swingiest metal songs I've ever heard. The album is pretty rad too

Immolation - Burn With Jesus

Similar to another 'ion' band, Incantation, I found it hard to get into Immolation's music the first time I heard it. It wasn't the usual death metal that will immediately latch on to you with their skin-shredding riffs. Both bands' music is murkier and more dissonant which made enjoying the music more challenging. It took me years to finally get both bands to click with me.

Raven - Wiped Out

Absolutely stunning stuff - wild, unhinged, speed metallic and yet rockin and with great riffage. The production is garagey with it only adds to the raw and rough charm.

Megadeth - Rust in Peace...Polaris

Now this is a technical thrash metal classic. A great track to end an awesome album. The riffage on this song is truly enrapturing.

Easily one of the best live shows I've seen too.

Riot - Storming the Gates of Hell

This and Van Halen are crazy things to discover after like a decade listening to metal. Great stuff. Monumental work.

I gotta see Raven live because the clips I have seen on YouTube really promise a great show.

Overlorde - Return of the Snow Giant

Still as gripping and just plain FUN to listen it as when it came out.

I'd heard Raven live before ever even hearing the albums. Was a wild impromptu Sunday in FL.

Candlemass - Darkness in Paradise

This was such a great band.

I always loved the Raven albums - when I got into heavy metal proper I was almost instantly drawn into the NWOBHM and their first three are great classics (but I my pick would be Wiped Out because of its wild/speed metal paradigm).

Yeah they were so fucking fantastic.

Iron Savior - Warrior

Condition Red is really the only album by them I care about, but god is it fucking amazing.

Tygers of Pan Tang- Spellbound

Energetic and surprisingly shreddy NWOBHM. A classic!

Cemetary - Godless Beauty

Man, this album aged poorly. Just a mediocre attempt at Shades of God.

Anthrax - In My World (Live, the Island Years version)

One of my favorite tracks off PoT done live for a small audience. Joey doesn't quite hit the high notes in this raw performance but Anthrax overall is smokin' on this version.

Evil Invaders - Shattering Reflection

Absolutely amazing stuff here. This is how you do growth as this type of band - incrementally and with songcraft and not a sudden genre switch-up (that one is also possible but may cause dissonance among the fanbase).

Marduk - Cloven Hoof

The last gasp of the Legion area was a fitting send off for the popular front man. He departed on a high note with the high quality of the material on this album.

Tad Morose - Chapter X

Holds up, got some killer riffs and choruses, just good old back to basics stuff. They managed to replicate their old sound and do some fresh songs with it.

Instant feel good song and what about that AMAZING guitar solo at the end!

Destroyer 666 - Wildfire

Because of reading the D666/KK thread. Still one of my favourite recent records in all of metal. From top to bottom probably the best D666 album.

Coincidentally I've only just started giving their early albums a listen today.

Iron Savior - Deadly Sleep

I heard some obvious nods to Maiden's 'Aces High' and Priest's 'All Guns Blazing' in here but as far as late 90s power metal goes this is a highlight.

Slow and heavy doom/death metal from Japan. One of my favorite bands from this past decade.

Yes, it totally rips!

Exodus - Overdose

I don't know why Exodus had an inclination for doing covers during their first Zetro-era of the late '80s to early '90s. For Fabulous Disaster, 2 out of the 10 tracks were covers. This is arguably the better among the two but I'm just saying that 'coz I like AC/DC. Their cover is just a heavier, chunkier version of the original. I would've preferred another original song instead of this one though.

I'm not really a competent musician but I get a lot of inspiration from this band.

Dig the guitarwork and drums on this cut. Raging.
