Xandria - Reborn

They definitely know how to craft excessively catchy and fun symphonic metal, and I do dig this new song.
I wonder if Marco Heubaum has stopped being a dick yet, though.

Def Leppard - High 'n' Dry

You know, this record is fucking mighty. No bad tracks to be found, at least not on the first couple of listens.

Absolutely. It's sad that they didn't stay on that course. Killer album.

Cannibal Corpse - Scalding Hail

Cannibal Corpse is like that rotting zombie that won't go away and die. They continues to fester and move along and there's hardly any drop in quality.

Symphony X - The Odyssey

Epic to end all epics. I have fond memories of listening to this and smoking weed with my buddy in his car back in college while we air drummed along. Good times.

Possessed - Satan's Curse

The debate rages on whether Seven Churches was the first death metal album ever released. To me, it sounds closer to thrash but I guess this was death metal in spirit.

Blaze - Blood And Belief

This is probably his best solo venture. Great album - somber, moody yet heavy as hell.

Blood Incantation - Starspawn
I will see these guys live here in Oslo in a couple of weeks, I'm pretty stoked.

Ripper - Corpses of Fire

Chilean death/thrash with the Voivod-ish logo. I heard a rumor that this band might be headed to my country to perform live. I hope it comes true,

D.R.I. - Thrashard

Thrash Zone will always be special to me. In high school I was recruited to 'sing' for a band and they made me memorize half of this album. Too bad, I chickened out and didn't show up for our show. They kicked me out after that. Ha ha ha!

Iron Maiden - Innocent Exile

Killers is the one Iron Maiden album I physically own, and it's a picture disc. I bought it almost a decade ago at a record store in Mystic, Connecticut called Mystic Disc, and they had picture discs of A Real Live One and a couple other Maiden albums that I don't remember.

Now that is my kinda playlist! I've been meaning to ask how Slough Feg was at Hells Heroes? No setlist up at Setlist FM.

Oh they were fucking great. Here's what I remember the set being:

Headhunter
Sky Chariots
Eumaeus the Swineherd
Warriors Dawn
New Organon
Traders & Gunboats
High Passage Low Passage
Baltechs Lament
Vargr Theme/Confrontation

(copied and pasted from the SF facebook page where I commented it the day after)

Bolt Thrower - Icon

I haven't even heard all their shit yet, but the way they write songs may be more understanding of what metal is than almost any other bands. Nothing but those great fucking riffs and massive rhythms.

^That is a fuckin great setlist!

NP: Extreme Noise Terror - Damage 381

This is some awesome fuckin grind. Wish I had gotten this earlier. Barney sounds right at home with ENT, it's almost like he had a point to prove or something.

The Troops Of Doom - Antichrist Reborn

Fuckin killer debut full length! Gotta be in my top 10 this year. My copies got a awesome bonus cover of Seps "Necromancer" too, as well as a great cover of "The Usurper". But it's the originals which I can't wait to get to know better. This fuckers gonna get some mileage this year.

The Chasm - A Keen but Empty Sight

This is like the years since Spell of Retribution just never happened already.

Voivod - Synchro Anarchy

This doesn't really work over car speakers. Glad to be hearing it over headphones like it should be. All the details.

Morbid Angel - Dominate

Fast and frenetic opener for MA's 'Domination'. I feel this album is a step down from the previous one but it's still a great record.

The Foreshadowing - "Seven Heads, Ten Horns"
Elegant, doomy metal from Italy with a vocalist who's a dead ringer for Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode. Great stuff.
For fans of Paradise Lost's mid 90s era, Type O, Katatonia, etc.

Ministry - I Prefer

One of my favorite tracks from 'The Land of Rape and Honey'. Its punchy and direct.

Anathema - Sunset of Age

The ending verse always makes me lose my shit; as if you've been wandering in a desolated landscape before you get caught in an unexpected storm.

While I enjoy their 80s output more, I quite like the Bush-era albums. "Stomp" has some great tunes, for sure.

Evile - In Memoriam

Now I've heard people say Evile reminded them of Metallica but I never actually heard it (music-wise) until now. This ballad is not an outright rip off any Metallica song but man, if it was playing inside a room and I would be passing by that room, I can easily mistake this for a Metallica song.

Blind Guardian - Wheel of Time

Probably my favourite of Blind Guardian's ultra epics. The acoustic bridge with the timpani or whatever is great, massive song!

Nice, didn't know this was released. Really loved that EP they did a while back so I'm sure this slaps. Thanks!

Vader - Black to the Blind

I’m pretty much done with this band, I’ll still listen to this and also Litany but they’re not great as some people pretend they are. Meat and potatoes death metal and nothing more. I don’t feel the need to further explore their discography.

Iommi - Fused

Iommi and Hughes are on fire here! Damn I woulda liked more from this line-up. Forked out the extra bucks for the Japanese version coz the bonus track Let It Down Easy rocks like a motherfucker!

Sea Witch - The Blackened Sea

Excellent Canadian Blackened Doom and it really fits with the shitty weather we have tonight.

Entombed - Forsaken

Man, hearing this EP is yet another proof of how excellent these guys were in their death metal stage. Makes me wish they stuck to their original sound for just a little longer at least.

Really like the new album. It has a cleaner sounding production on it though not too much and nothing that spoils the overall experience but damn it absolutely rages as expected.

Social Distortion - I Was Wrong

As honest and soul bearing songwriting you will find anywhere.Great song.
