Threshold - Narcissus

Describe Threshold in three words?
Reliable, nuanced, underrated.

Cannibal Corpse - Butchered at Motherfuckin Birth

This has been really satiating my life the past couple days I'm not sure what it is but I'm starting to sense a macabre sense of genius in each of these songs the more I listen to it.

The good stuff on Astronomica (tracks 3-7 and then the closer) is legit first rate material from them... might have to review this. Wade Black is actually killer. If he wasn't replacing the even more stellar Midnight this would be revered. Very charismatic, soulful kind of performance.

Also this is one of those bands I need to just listen to all of their shit because I love old Queensryche and FW to death

Was walking to a record store with my brother rocking out to in dark places and it's a brilliant track and so is painted skies so I really need to listen to them more

I'd never really heard the later two CG albums before recently, but got curious after revisiting Transcendence again like I usually do. The other two albums are fairly different (Strange and Beautiful due to being a blues rock/70s kind of album that has nothing of the musical touchstones of the old shit, Astronomica because Black's vocals are quite different and change the vibe a bit). But they're good.

Epic as shit!! I just started the very first album and I kinda dig it, it's kinda like old Queensryche but the vocals make it more distinctive, cant think of anybody that really sings like that.

^ Indeed... glad you like it.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - John Finn's Wife

This is a really mellow but emotional work. Lots of epic crests. His voice is so good.

Listened to first two Crimson Glory albums today and they both rock, especially Transcendence, can already tell thats about to become another of my obsessions. I'm probably gonna put on the last two sometime tonight

Currently hearing Obituary - Cause of Death for the billionth time and it is just so fucking killer I love this album with every fiber of my being.

Id - Hija de las Tinieblas

Do yourself a favor and listen to both Id releases, plus Infuriate's album. Lost an awesome guitarist, and incredible human being. Rest easy, Jason.

Dimmu Borgir - Progenies of the Great Apocalypse

I still have a lot of fun with this band's pre-"Abrahadabra" stuff.
Maybe it's simply teenage nostalgia, but whatever - it's catchy, it's heavy and it pumps me up.

Listening to the new Paysage d'Hiver. Loved Im Wald last year, but so far Geister isn't quite doing it for me. Might be the slower, gloomier atmosphere.

Darkthrone - Leave No Cross Unturned

Really starting to appreciate 'the Underground Resistance'. I think part of me likes later Darkthrone more than the early stuff. Heresy, I know.

Kalevala - People No Names

Progressive rock with some hard rock influences even. This first album is good, don't know about the rest.

Silver Synthetic - In the Beginning

Warm, groovy retro rock from Third Man Records. Pretty cool.

This is a lot of fun. Truly joyous stuff. Proof that nothing dies - here's a bunch of young dudes making old early 70s rock.

Summoning - Mirkwood

Magical...!
The ''Nightshade Forests'' ep is some of the best stuff from the band.

Dream Theater - Pull Me Under

This has aged well. I haven't listened to this song in years but it still rocks - remastered version, anyway. I agree about the production on I&W sucking balls.

Amen. Lol.

Atlantean Kodex - Lion of Chaldea

Gaaaa so catchy in it's own thunderingly quirky way!

Atlantean Kodex - The Innermost Light

This one's like a hymn. I appreciate the shorter numbers on this album, so classy and rousing.

Slauter Xstroyes - Winter Kill

Fantastic one off album from '85. Inventive, unique and memorable songwriting with excellent performances to back it up from all involved. Special mentions to the bassist Brent Sullivan and singer John Stewart (RIP), these guy's really standout. As a bonus the recent reissue has 3 bonus tracks to make Winter Kill even more killer.

Accept - Restless & Wild (the song)

Great song and album. Still some old albums to get from them.

Yngwie Malmsteen - Wolves at the Door

A new song from Yngwie. Not that bad. If the other tracks on the new album are on the same level, I might get this.

Where are people finding this reissue? I looked and didn't find it.

Silver Synthetic - s/t

Hooked on the laid back summery rock and roll. Very retro.

Slough Feg - New Organon

Seems to pair well with Silver Synthetic - both very old school, yet genuine feeling. Grooves for days.

Thanks. I'll have to grab it - seems like that shit is impossible to find anywhere else. Good looking out.

Enslaved - Monumension and Below The Lights

Enslaved spread their wings and go all prog. I really dig it. Best listened to in the dark with headphones on.

Cerebral Rot - Bowels of Decrepitude

Doesn’t sound too different from anything on the previous album, which means the new album is gonna slap hard. Filthy, rotten, savage death metal.

Billie Eilish - All the Good Girls Go to Hell

Really very good actually. Trying to keep up with newer music. I feel like it's good for the soul.

Slayer - Angel of Death

The people who hate the short middle songs are crazy. An all time classic.

This album is fucking insane really. To think of everything it did in the mid-to-late 80s is wild. An unprecedented and wholly influential release.
