Laundry - Monarch Man

WOW, hidden gem from the 90s right here. Sounds like a mix of Discipline-era KC, Primus and a dash of grunge. Totally flabbergasted I've never seen this project mentioned anywhere by anyone, ever.

Vicious Rumors - Abandoned

Absolute anthem to scream from the rooftops. Just pure bravado - another US metal classic. What a great time for these sorts of bands.

I wish this band survived.

Master's Hammer - Geniové

Dark and epic, especially in the choruses, with the episodes featuring keyboards and clean vocal parts.

Arch / Matheos - Kindred Spirits

Writing a review for this album really gives me more insight on why I actually like it. Why it took so long for Matheos to crank out these riffs again I will never know, but I'm glad he did. This blows mid/later era Fates Warning out of the water by far.

Old Man's Child - The Millennium King

Listening to this band makes me sad at how wasted Galder is in Dimmu Borgir.

Tremendous album...

Matthew Ryan - Hustle Up Starlings

I haven't played this enough lately; really nice singer songwriter stuff. His voice is a perfectly cigarette-ridden husk and the music is beautifully simple.

Autumn - Altitude

I always mean to play this closer to when the actual autumn season is. Beautifully contemplative stuff.

Epica - Menace of Vanity

I bought this so long ago and didn't give it a chance. Some nice cuts on this.

Took me so long to get into them (and via that album too) - once it clicked, it really clicked, and my wife has to steer me away from the 'limited green vinyl repress of whatever EP they once did'

Epica - Requiem for the Indifferent

Mainly because shuffle is psychic.

Cradle of Filth - Beneath the Howling Stars

My favorite album by them overall is "Dusk and Her Embrace", but this might be my favorite song by them at least.

Killing Joke - Pandemonium

Catchy low-paced stuff with mechanical riffing and sorta oriental background keyboards.

I'm of an identical opinion. That song is masterful, especially on the remix of Cruelty where you can finally hear everything properly.

Dimmu Borgir - Under korpens vinger

I've always struggled to describe the vibe of early Dimmu. I don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing.

Steely Dan - Aja

This song is absolutely incredible. The runaway Sax solo in particular is brilliant.

Donald Fagen - IGY

Funny thing. I've somehow been listening to both Donald Fagen and Steely Dan for a while without realizing he was IN Steely Dan. Brilliant stuff.

Primal Fear - Metal is Forever

Sometimes you do need the silly studs n' leather stuff to keep your day going. Great vocalist, too - kinda Manowar-ish-but-not-burned out on this album.

Prototype “Illuminatum / My Own Deception”

Really digging this band. Proggy thrashy stuff featuring Kragen Lum of Heathen.

Sanhedrin - The Getaway

That intro reminds me of a Priest song (I think) - I just can't place it. Answers on a postcard...

Paul Chain - Mirror

I had a weird uneasy experience driving to this one at night coming home from a long trip a while ago. It's really like some kind of fever dream. Not pulpy horror like his older stuff, but more of a strange queasy dream state.

Liege Lord - Master Control

One of the best, most balls-out power / thrash albums of the 80s, maybe ever. This album is just pure raise-your-fist riffage, howling vocals and searing solos from beginning to end and I fucking love it.

Type O Negative - Less Than Zero

"Life is Killing Me" seems to be one of the less-loved (though still loved) Type O Negative albums. I enjoy most of it, though. I skip "I Like Goils" but that's it.

The drums in the remaster seriously sound so damn satisfying.

This album makes me so sad, because it's exactly what I want from 80s USPM, but so few bands in the subgenre put out anything even remotely close to its sheer intensity, volume, and catchiness.

Vader - Solitude in Madness

A lot of this is just like one long song, in the same vein as a lot of their shit, but damn if they don't keep up the pure riffery and energy.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Edge of Forever (Pretty Good!)
Sodom - the Final Sign of Evil (Awesome! I like most of the "Re-make" thrash albums I've heard).
Love & Rockets - Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven (OK).
V/A - Metal Massacre 14 (AWESOME!!)
Sepultura - Against (Good).

Killing Joke - The Fall Of Because

Rhythmic and hypnotic stuff with great tribal drumming. Btw, Godflesh initially took its name from this composition.
