Faith No More - Angel Dust

Just getting to know them, because I have some albums lying around. Listened Sol Invictus some time ago, and it made a quite good impression.

This new Birnam Wood is fantastic so far. Great to see the band really coming into its own and getting the quality production it deserves. https://birnamwood.bandcamp.com/album/wicked-worlds

Manowar - Courage

Yeah, still listening later Manowar, eh. What a pussy song this is. As someone in a review here said: it's the same bass line over the whole album. But there are some winners here, The Power being the best.

Prequel to Bleeding
By: Impaled Nazarene
From: Absence of War Does Not Mean Peace

I have only heard one Impaled Nazarene album previously and even though I really like it, for some reason I have not listened to many others. Today I remedy that. This shit rocks.

Damn, their first two albums are fucking perfect, aren't they?

I wouldn't go that far, but they're excellent.

"Astronomica" is a very good album too IMHO. One of the best of that year.

I'm glad I caught them live before they went inactive.

Sometimes I forget how amazing these vocals are, and then I play it again and it all comes back to me.

I'm extremely excited to hear the Calico Jack speech again. Ha! What a great album. I can feel a RW marathon coming on.

Well, this one a band I found very randomly. I don't even remember how they came up. But I saw they sounded similar to Kyuss and--yep they do. These guys rock.

Suffocation - Pierced From Within

People acting like Deathcore is some great sin against the Metal gods are hilariously hypocritical when this is a beloved release amongst the entire Metal fandom yet features some of chuggiest breakdowns I've ever heard in any heavy music. Not that I don't like it, I love me some dumbass breakdowns. "Death Metal That Happens to Have Breakdowns in it" is a sadly underexplored genre.

Orange Goblin is MUCH more than a Kyuss similar band for me.

Suffo had real riffs, great ones. Deathcore bands don't.

Breakdowns in and of themselves are not bad. They can be great. But if the rest of the song is filler just waiting for the breakdown, you may be a deathcore band.

Varathron - Luciferian Mystical Awakening

Not even sure why I decided to look this track up but I'm glad that I did - this is some epic ambitious piece of black metal with thundering riffs and elegant keys. I'm hardly a black metal fanatic but this is superb stuff.

Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

I'd argue Ozzy was actually really great on this and the next one. He synced up with the sound and the band was on fucking fire. Amazing riffs and adventurous weirdness to boot.

Damn right he was great on those two; easily some of the best performances of his career. Do people argue otherwise?

np Lurker of Chalice - Lurker of Chalice

yeah goddamn this is amazing

I know. Who with any knowledge and experience with metal takes the other side of that argument?

Bad Deathcore bands maybe. Riffy Deathcore bands exist, you just have to wade through all the chugcore shit.

(posting a song that has 150 views on youtube probably doesn't help my point but hey, MA is filled with thousands of bands even more obscure than that)

Part of me wants to blame it on the advent of the internet as we know it making it so much easier for people to hear the Dio and Martin era stuff (the former of which was never particularly hard to find, but personally I didn't even know Sabbath continued to exist after Mob Rules when I was growing up), thus making it kinda en vogue to shit on Ozzy for not being anywhere near as technically impressive of a singer as those two. Personally, I prefer their post-Ozzy vocalists as vocalists, but I tend to prefer Ozzysabbath to Diosabbath/Tonysabbath. They were at their peak in the 70s, and no matter how good Heaven and Hell and Headless Cross are, Master of Reality, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and Sabotage were their fucking zeniths as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, the first six are the best they ever did because of the adventurous writing and relentless experimenting and evolving. It's crazy how different SBS sounds from even Volume 4. They were going at light speed and it's fascinating.

Stereolab - Doubt
